Interesting and refreshing change. Not one of the regular cycle of ‘top’ European managers and not a former England ‘star player. I wish him well 👍

Is this good for him or not, I think not..!!! A five year contract on potentially triple+ his wage £6m+ from £2m a year is not exactly self harming..... Having spent £20m to get him and £13m to get rid of Tuchel, they have to give him 18 months at least, do well he is England manager in 3 or 4 years do badly and get a £15m pay off, thats the sort of Russian (or perhaps as it should be now American) roulette I could live with...

And clearly a bloke who was prepared to work his way up by whatever route possible. If the Chelsea players don’t respect him well more fool them.

I'd love to find out if it's true that we turned him down twice and if so, why. You can't say he wasn't open to a move to this level as he ended up at Swansea. It's these kind of questions that need asking of our ownership. The excuse that he didn't manage at a decent enough league level doesn't hold water either- I'd say that the Swedish League is a few notches above the Irish League and Scots Division 2

It's these kind of questions that need asking of our ownership. I'm not sure they'd tell you if you did ask. Apart from the fact it was Potter and his history with the club I don't think anyone would ordinarily be impressed with appointing an Ostersunds manager to try and keep us in the Premier League. Once relegated may have been the time however you don't know how it would have turned out - he didn't show much loyalty to Swansea once Brighton had sacked Hughton and four years on they're precisely one point and one place better off than we are. Personally I didn't want Rowett (largely because he'd used us previously to get a better deal out of Derby only to then to not honour it) and would have preferred they give Potter a chance. But that in no way equates to saying we'd be in a better position now had we done so and I certainly wouldn't use it as a stick to beat the club with because that's just trying to be clever with the benefit of hindsight.

5 year deal with a £16m compensation package to Brighton. I wonder what the odds of him lasting the 5 years are? Gouranga.

Seems a good choice for both club and manager to me as long as they give him time.

Good luck Graham. Deserves his chance at a top job and I think he will surprise a few as long as the senior players buy into his methods.
Very interested to see how he gets on.

And we shouldn’t keep dwelling on what could have been if we recruited Potter. There would have been no point, as he would have left us after a year anyway. Maybe but just think of the cpmpensation package we would have received. Enough to buy a whole team, even a keeper includeed...

Brighton have just sold their Prem status for 16m.....not that they had a choice. It all depends who they appoint in his place they took a big gamble on Potter and it paid off, they are currently a top half premiership side so will be an attractive proposition for most ambitious managers and even for some of the bigger names out of work at the mo. And don't forget Brighton isn't the worse place in the world to live Gouranga.

It will be interesting to see who Brighton appoint next. We have been told that they analyse managers all the time and have already identified the man they would prefer. Stevie Gerrard has heaved a big sigh of relief as his job is a little bit safer. Now he only has Rogers to worry about and he won't leave Leicester at the moment, as he is waiting to receive a big compo package.

On abit of a tangent. And don’t want to derail the thread. However if we got Potter, do you think Bojan would have featured? It could literally been a match made in heaven . Alas.

On making the move to Stamford Bridge, Potter said: ‘I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea FC, this fantastic football club. I am very excited to partner with Chelsea’s new ownership group and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and to develop a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of.
I would also like to place my sincere thanks to Brighton & Hove Albion for allowing me this opportunity and in particular Tony Bloom and all the players, staff and supporters for their continued support during my time at the club.’
This reads as though it written for him, especially the first paragraph; a contrived American feel to it.
It’s the one of the worst aspects of the modern game that (Leicester aside) it seems as soon as an unfashionable club gets the chance to progress the big 6 just wade in and spoil it all.

Brighton Chief Exec was on talksport last week I think, ironically talking about succession planning referenced Ashworth leaving but he reckoned they had deputies who could take over jobs if people left, players identified to buy if players left so you'd assume they have a manager identified too.

On the contrary I feel. A manager that is cut in the cloth of the owners. Who knows what foreign owners want (Scandis and sheepshaggers) References wanting to develop a team and culture….wasn’t that what he was famous for in the frozen north? You imagine it is in some way contrived that he would say he is “proud and excited” to represent Chelsea?

As mucha s I love Bojan there's nothing to suggest Potter would have wanted to sign him, He's never tried to bring him to Brighton, even though buying him from Japan would have been cheap,

True enough but it happens at all levels really. Brighton took Potter from Swansea. Swansea took him from Ostersunds.

Can't help but think Potter has worked so long on building his reputation and potentially could have fucked it as soon as any of the big teams came. His long term project/ keeping everyone humble strategy buying cheap rough gems is the antithesis of Chelsea.
Klopp seems to be losing the plot a bit and that would have seemed a far more relatable fit
