So we've signed a winger who we hope will be convertible to wing back, because we only need him to perform an attacking function and this is due to the fact the current squad has such great solidity in the back 3 that defensive awareness isn't even required in our wing backs? What could possibly go wrong? Seems to be an argument for a back six. Well a back five ain’t working so you just throw more defensive players at it.

We’ve not got a Poundland but providing it sells food I could pretty much guarantee I could assemble a meal from that bargain type store to present a meal that most of the income range would find acceptable and I’m not a chef. Question is can MON do that because he’s a highly rewarded football manager so non of the excuses cut it. A question not for yourself but all. In the last 40 years when have SCFC or a SCFC Manager started a game with a match day squad of 18 players (Huddersfield - accepting the permissible size of the squad has increased ) consisting of; 7 free agent signings two which are 33 and 39 respectively. 2 loan players aged 22 with less than 20 competitive games at the particular league standard (Championship in this case) 4 players through the youth ranks with an average age of 21 and a total of Championship appearances (not games) of 52 between them Moving on from the Huddersfield game to our 1st team squad who are currently injured (total) we have; Powell - free agent Souttar - £200k signing Fox - free agent Dulhaney - free agent McCarron - undisclosed transfer fee Clarke - loan Added todayFosu - loan Genuine QuestionWhat SCFC manager has had to deal with the same constraints in the transfer market to produce a match day squad worthy of promotion? Regardless of this reasoned analysis the fact is MON has presided over a complete pre season shambles. Hardly a surprise that MIllwall Morecambe and Huddersfield follow. His QPR masterclass was embarrassing. The evidence of a confused mind laid bare. His game management is very poor - and that’s an understatement. This manifested itself on not using a substitute on Saturday until the 77th minute despite searing heat - and then it’s Clucas fgs. So while it maybe true that his hands have been tied the management of the team is questionable. I don’t think having Holden helps either as his pedigree is not up to standard either. I tire of pass it around at the back before the inevitable hoof upfield . Oh to remember Hudson picking the ball up off the back four and then dictating the play . Our midfield just hide resulting in hoof it . That’s nothing to do with his hands being tied in the transfer market.

Your wasting your breath mate. There's a real trumpism aurora amongst some supporters and the manager is their Hilary Clinton. With the amount of fake news on here, I'm surprised nobody has claimed Michael has an underground tunnel filled with babies, whose blood he drinks, yet. Maybe some people just want to see the team play about on par with it's budget compared to the opponents. Football isn't that simple, but to keep missing it by a mile and blaming finances is starting to take the piss. He's no one but himself to blame this season and he's not started well. We may well have the same or bigger budget than those around us but ours has gone on paying massive wages with virtually nothing available for transfers. We've had to haemorrhage players to balance the books and a massive turnover in players is the exact opposite of what you need to do to build a successful team. It isn't just the finances it's what we have had to in the background that's held us back. A team like Luton may well have a smaller budget but they have ex League 2 players on lower wages and having gone up their income has increased. They have money to buy better players on bigger wages and get rid of players they want to get rid of and keep players they want to keep - the exact opposite of our situation. Over the last couple of seasons Luton have been systematically building a squad while we have been dismantling one. This isn't making excuses for O'Neill. It's an objective description of our situation that those who naively think it's all the manager's fault conveniently ignore or haven't understood.

There are a lot of MoN doubters on this board (a loud minority) and signing good players from a higher league ruffles their agenda. This guy Fosu will prove a very good signing in several positions. Not sure how you can ruffle an agenda (what does that even mean?) but my opinions on the manager are based on results not whether a signing has come from the Premier League. Baker and Philogene-Bidace both signed from Premier League clubs, did we see a major upturn in results after they signed? No we did not, as the tactics, game management and adaptability of the manager to various setbacks was simply not good enough, and has continued in this vein so far this season. Also, is there some sort of enclave of happy clapping morons in the Nottinghamshire area? Baker is a very good player, so good that he has taken over the captaincy and if you don't see that he improves the team then I have to say you are wrong. His goals will improve results this season and now Fosu will also improve the team as will Gayle. Your negativity is a real downer!

Naismith is a player they brought in after promotion on a free and I presume they will have made money on the deal. Also looks the player and Bristol haven't behaved very well - Luton aren't the only ones who've been done over by a greedy player.

Correct - and the only way we could afford them this summer is because we have finally got rid of our high earners - we couldn't have brought in those players in the previous 2 windows because of our wage bill. Which means while Luton have been building a squad we have been dismantling one. Our relative wealth can now start making a difference.

Hope he plays tonight can't recall seeing him play but his description looks exactly what I've been calling for a WB with more attacking qualities not just a defender with a bit of licence to get up the pitch.

We did bring in that profile of player last season though, didn't we? We spent fees that are fairly significant in the current climate for Wilmot and Surridge, neither of whom would have been on a pittance. Would imagine Vrancic was on a competitive wage as well. Then there's whatever the loan fee/wage contribution there'd have been towards Sawyers/Ostigard/Sima and later JPB/Maja and Jagielka's wages.

He is unproven in the championship, not match fit so see what he is like at Xmas by then we will be still 16th and season over . What a load of shit this comment is. Not sure why i'm shocked though. Most of his games for Brentford were in the championship. And he's played 4 sets of 90 mins this season already. How is that not match fit? Ridiculous comment 🤣🤣 Tbf he's unproven as a wing back in any league.

He is but the general feeling is from most brentford fans is the times he has played RWB for them he was very good. He's got all the qualities you need for there that's for sure..very quick and attacking. Pretty much Tymon but on the right.

All the players you mentioned were on less than the likes of Allen, Smith, Baath and Davies - our wage bill has massively reduced over the last couple of years. A club with our budget and without our wage bill would have been able to play far more of it into transfer fees and wages for new players than we have been able to and without having to deal with the same level of turnover and squad disruption. We are now finally in a good place and able to capitalise on our relative wealth.

I'm not criticising the players- without Baker especially we'd have been a lot closer to the trapdoor than we were. I'm criticising the manager's ability to use these resources (far better resources than most in the division not on parachute payments) to garner an upturn in results. As someone else said, he's like an old fashioned chef who doesn't know how to use exotic ingredients. Also, I find MON's rigid determination to stick to a formation that doesn't suit his squad (see above), negativity, negligible game management skills and like for like substitutions a 'real downer'. The difference is, you aren't paying to read me or anyone else on this forum.

They’ll have been on less but they’ll have still been on a fairly healthy wage by the standards of the division though and are all fairly high profile by the standards of the league as well? It’s not like we were scratching around last year and had to take what we can get as opposed to this year, in both years we’ve been able to bring in players considered of a high calibre and coveted by other clubs?

In other words it’s levelled the playing field and we’ve lacked the nous on the field and off it where they haven’t.
