Fuck me sideways, There really is some Fannie’s on here! Our FSA caseworker has to spend quite a lot of her time responding to requests from fans, and sometimes the parents of fans, for help when they have been banned by their club for pyro use, and/or, even worse, are facing a criminal conviction and a football banning order, and it's very difficult to argue mitigation. It's not uncommon for fans or their parents to say " he's a good lad really"; "didn't know it was illegal" ; " didn't mean any harm" etc;. Even if you don't accept the inherent selfishness of launching something which is dangerously hot, and can seriously burn fellow fans; causes serious problems for those who have COPD or breathing problems; and makes the clothes of fellow fans stink; then look at it from a self-interest perspective and don't risk a ban, when you won't have any atmosphere at all to criticise. I think the post below this one makes a decent point. Why do you help them? They deserve the sanction they get don’t they? It seems like a waste of the organisation’s time?

Red smoke bomb on the pitch. Obviously can't take much more of this season already.

Malcolm, its a shame you can't just say "We can't help". Last I checked, ignorance of the Law isn't a defence, and as stated elsewhere most (all??) clubs had it in their stadium terms of entry. Effectively that’s the position. All we do in most cases is to advise them to offer to sign a good behaviour contract and ask for mercy from their club. Essentially there is no defence. If the claim is one of mistaken identity, that could be different.

I quite like to see the flares. I know that’s not the “correct” stance but to be honest I think they add to the atmosphere. They were a highlight from yesterday. Don’t go bunging them onto the playing area though lads.

Give me an air horn over a flare everyday

Why doesn’t anyone throw bog rolls onto the back of the goal mouth either anymore?

Wow. It must have been amazing to sit there and think, I can’t see the bloody match I’ve just paid for during a period of ridiculous inflation, but damn I do like coughing on likely poorly regulated smoke emissions.

Whatever view you take of the law and ground regulations on this, please don't create more work for myself and colleagues in the FSA, by coming for support when you are banned and/or face a criminal conviction. I don't mean don't come to us if that happens - we will always give what support and advice we can but for the reasons I stated earlier, there is effectively no defence. What I do mean is that my strong advice is to think of the effect on fellow fans and the possible legal and banning consequences for yourself and DONT DO IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Pyros and flares are forbidden here in Sweden nowadays too. Mostly it was because of injuries on eyes and ears, damaged vision and hearing loss respectively.

After a device was let off in the away end during Saturday’s home game vs Crewe Alexandra, a Crewe supporter was taken ill and required urgent medical attention for breathing difficulties. www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/news/2022/july/crewealex_pyrotechnics/As the article says.... Love football, protect the game.
