🤔 he’s only “spent” money that he’s generated by selling players and slashing the wage bill though hasn’t he? What’s his net spend? So? He’s still spent 5/6m more than any of us expected and generally spent it badly. I think it’s obvious surely? He’s got to sell to buy and so far he’s recouped far more than he’s spent?

No idea. FFP is calculated over three years so a shift between 2021/22 and 2022/23 has no impact until 2024/25 so very marginal effect. I wonder if it is more to allow us to know he is off the books before the window opens on 1st July - nothing to do with FFP. That was my understanding but I must admit, the more I try and understand FFP the less it seems to make sense. Hopefully what it does mean is that we’ll start to see some much needed inbound activity from next week. Thinking about this a bit more, the only reason for a rush would be if there is a benefit to the 2021/22 numbers and we were close to a breach. If Afobe’s value had been written off in the accounts, then any fee would be a profit. If that’s the reason, it suggests we were very close to the limit

If that’s the reason, it suggests we were very close to the limit Would the entirety of his value have been written off by now though? Even if his actual value had been written down during our reassessment of values during the covid season? I always forget if amortisation includes the final year of the contract. In Afobe’s situation would it have been 12.5 / 4 or 12.5 / 5? You’d assume about 50% of that was written off during our creative accounting so if it was the latter of the two options above that would have still have required us to need £1.25m to break even. Unless I’ve completely missed the point on how this all works.

Unless I’ve completely missed the point on how this all works. It is per year so without the exceptional write offs there would be a value to write off in 2021/22 and 2022/23. As you note, it all depends how much was written off in the Covid period numbers. But it would only make sense to rush it if there was a positive benefit to 2021/22 otherwise it has no impact until 2024/25.

Could be good news for us if we're still paying a chunk of his wages (which you'd think we were)

Another signing you'd think would never have seen the light of day if we had a proper process in place instead of letting the manager bring in who he wanted without any questions being asked..ie ,does he fit in with the way the manager sets his team up to play.
12 fucking million wasn't it ?

It was the fact Wolves pulled our pants down in the process that irked the most. Wolves signing him back for ÂŁ10mil from Bournemouth then a few days later inflating the price to ÂŁ12mil for us! Absolute joke of a deal that is another one of the many that should never have been made & cost us dearly on wages nevermind the initial transfer outlay!

That didn’t go do well. Personal reasons? If he’s playing for a club in Dubai it’s probably because they’re paying him stupid money. Why on earth the oil rich sheikhs see fit to spend their blood money on Afobe of all players is another question.

Imagine being offered the chance to sign any striker you want to get us promotion and you choose Benny Kafobe; you killed us Rowett
