Nantwich is bollocks, one of the worst towns for drinking. I find everything so sterile there. Alsager looking good at the mo👍🏻 The Lodge Inn on Crewe Road was absolutely heaving on Saturday night when I was in there.....squeezed in at 7pm and it was rammed the whole evening. Excellent range of lagers, ales and ciders, huge beer garden out the back.....Massively different to when I was last in there in 1990 ! I was half expecting 'Ethel' the pot lady to still be walking round pickiun up the empties ! Best pub in Alsager by far ...... with an honourable mention to The Mere as well.....joules bitter was nice.

Found a pint of Guinness for £4.50 near Kings Cross last week! It was in the London equivalent of the Pig Pen tho I was in Newcastle at the weekend and guys from Kent, London, Oxford and Bristol in the group were amazed how cheap all the alcohol was, even had pussers gunpowder rum for £4 in one bar I can imagine, I rarely get a Guinness in London for less than £6 outside of Wetherspoons or the UJ Club nowadays.

Back on the food subject we called the chippy last night, I was surprised how it has risen in price yet again. Two x pudding chips and gravy - £11 !! A fish alone is £7.10, a sausage alone is £1.80!! Told Mrs B she will have to dig the deep fat fryer out from now on 😂

Always busy on a Friday and Saturday night and plenty of old Stoke faces drink in there as well. The Mere is decent and will be very busy for the World Cup matches. The Bod that has opened up next to it is also a good alternative. There are 8 or 9 pubs plus restaurants on the main Crewe road now so it is affectionately known as the Alsager Strip!

Picked up a Bargain from the CO OP last night two reduced breaded cod fillets 94p, probably cost about £4 to cook them when thinking about it.

London can still be reasonable if you know where you’re going! Yep prices vary wildly all over the city, from £8ish in town, to £4.25 for Kronnenburg in places like Norwood. Yes Paul I'm just down the road from Norwood, South London is a great place to live.

No Political point to make, but just watched the Panorama programme on UK Inflated food prices and the lengths some people have to go to in order to feed themselves and/or their families. To be honest with you I felt both relieved and appalled in equal measure and somewhat grateful that me or mine do not have to make those choices Surely the UK population in general deserve better as the 5th/6th biggest economy in the World? with a more equitable wealth distribution, or at least a better planned Economy and no I'm not advocating Communistic In many ways its self defeating as poor diet leads to poor health outcomes which lead to more State reliance and the cycle just continues. People correctly have raised concerns on another thread about Children's Education being interrupted by Covid but how can Children possibly recover academically when their nutritional needs are not being met. As I said at the outset I'm not making a Political point as I believe Labour might only be marginally more benevolent but benevolence is not what's required but a radical rethink of how we treat our population Many argue that increased Immigration has a positive effect on our economy why not first give our own population the best possible opportunity to contribute first If we abolished private education this afternoon the country would be in much better shape by tomorrow. It would have far-reaching impacts as it continued, on our politics, salaries and opportunities.

Indeed it is mate, contrary to what some would have you believe on this message board. The majority of my family live or were born there.

Often School is the main source for some kids only nutritional meal of the day so it’s key they get the menu right. A lot of schools seem to be outsourcing to independent companies now and they try to give the menu healthier options than when I was at school and even offer breakfasts now. Kids still however seem to direct towards the fried fast food option so often caterers will have to adhere to supply and demand and have a menu that directs towards what the kids want, they will however try to be more subtle with food like burritos featuring heavily. I’m not sure if there’s any input on nutrition in lessons but there certainly needs to be more. On the plus side free dinners are still going strong. I guess the problems occur for those out of school (for which there are 1000s) who will generate to McDonalds or the fridge at home. It’s a vicious circle but your right re eating healthy. The thing now is unlike the old days where it was chips with everything there’s never been a better time to put on a healthy menu because as a society we can’t use ignorance as an excuse like in the 70s and 80s. I agree with all of that Cobs, except for your bit about free school meals covering those in school and the problems actually beginning for those out of school.

Think the actual prices are roughly 10-15% lower but still very high. Attachments:

I realise you can't microwave what you bought, but, in all seriousness, you'll save a fortune by microwaving stuff instead of using usual cooking methods. Worth thinking about until energy prices become more manageable again. Hopefully!

Just looked at the website of one I used to use when I lived in East Anglia and a fish is well over £7. The prices you're quoting are about what I was paying 5 years ago at the same shop. online.rumblesfishbarmildenhall.co.uk/menu/#cat_2

Had an Indian through Just Eat at the weekend, you can see your previous orders, so, our meal came to £26 a month ago, to reorder exactly the same was £33, and they forgot the bloody chips at that!!

I think they keep it low due to volume of sales Between half five and seven there’s usually a queue outside Monday to Saturday

Takeaways and crap food, doesn't anyone buy healthy cheap food to cook from fresh these days, that dinner lady and her friend, overweight and unhealthy. I was looking in a waste free/refill shop the other day they had a stew mix, the dried barley etc, very cheap and just mix with water and n a slow cooker with your fresh vegetables and a bit of stock.

I accept that costs both direct and indirect have risen for lots of things BUT I beleive some businesses are using the blanket "cost of living crisis" as an excuse to take the piss - especially supermarkets. I like the odd burger but have seen some not-that-posh eateries are charging up to £20 for a burger and chips with a splash of liquid cheese and a couple of small bits of bacon.......
That said, you can still find a decent burger and chips for a tenner in many places - like I say, some are taking the piss.......

I’ve stopped buying meat at the supermarket and it massively helps. Don’t miss it when I’m making a curry midweek, or something like that. Feel much better for it health wise too.

I don’t know either They haven’t raised prices this year They cook in dripping so maybe that hasn’t risen as much as vegetable oil or palm oil And I would imagine there still on a old fuel tariff I fully expect it to go up shortly
