Was Hudson better than Gascoigne?
In my opinion, he was.

Dunno, Hudson was better than anyone I've ever seen in a Stoke shirt and he was cooler than Gascoigne.
I mean you are comparing the King of the Kings Road with someone whose idea of funny was belching in public.
A Rolls Royce of a midfield maestro with someone who was a horrible player to watch all shoving hands and jutting elbows.
We all wanted to be Alan Hudson, I'll go to my grave never having met anyone who wanted to be Paul Gascoigne.

Was Hudson better than Gascoigne? In my opinion, he was. Welcome back BJR. I can’t comment as I’m too young for Huddy although I’ve seen him many times downing Vodka and Orange in The Princess in Dresden over the years, never seen Gascoigne in a pub so I’ll have to reserve judgment 😉

Dunno, but watching the washed-up has-been Huddy's return to an almost guaranteed relegation side in the mid-80s and seeing him transform us immediately and almost single-handedly into the 2nd best team in the country (formwise to the end of that season), will remain one of the most astounding things I've ever seen.
The guy was a total footballing genius.

Was Hudson better than Gascoigne? In my opinion, he was. Yes by a country mile. As Jimmy Greenhoff once said 'Paul Gascoigne wasn't fit to lace Alan Hudson's boots'.......

Hudson and Hoddle would be a better comparison Yep and I'd go... Gascoigne and Joe Cole (almost identical England records) Something like that.

Huddy's debut v Liverpool with a back drop of the real Boothen End.

Both good players although one relied constantly on his arms. As someone said one was far cooler than the other, both pissheads and one was an absolute twat for knocking the crap out of his wife. Hudson by a country mile.

Huddy's debut v Liverpool with a back drop of the real Boothen End. I must actually be in that photo (somewhere). Me and my mates always used to stand about one third of the way up the Boothen, almost in line with the left hand goalpost (as you look at the photo), a couple of yards away from the big steel roof support. The excitement and atmosphere around the place when Huddy made his debut was incredible.

Watched some old England footage recently and Gascoigne is remarkably talented but infuriating. Times he'd waste energy chasing lost causes. Then he'd play a careless pass and chase to win it back and give a free kick away. He did that for his famous yellow card in 1990. Why did he fly in? Drove me bloody mad.

Didn't Gascoigne spend most of his time in the Scottish League, when in UK Football? I know he was at Spurs, but shot himself in the foot in that FA Cup Final game, whereas Hudson was the complete Midfielder. Perhaps both were too fond of the"Pop"though. Alan Hudson the better player for me, but Gascoigne grabbed more headlines because of his antics. Tony Curry and Stan Bowles also superb midfielders from that era.

Gascoigne wasn’t a ninety minute player, not many are. He did some amazing things on the pitch but also went missing quite often, not the complete player some like to think

And yes i can concur that the excitement and atmosphere was incredible!

Huddy's debut v Liverpool with a back drop of the real Boothen End. I was just along from that Esso sign bottom right As in asking whose the best between Messi and Ronaldo, why can’t we just agree they were both fantastic players but as Joeinoz said above they were both different types A rough guide is Gascoigne was a Nzonzi type and Hudson a Whelan type Both midfield both superb, both different and both a pleasure to watch

Hudson by a country mile. It’s criminal he wasn’t an England regular for years
For those who never saw him it’s hard to explain how he played the game. So elegant, always had time on the ball, seemed to stroll through games without breaking sweat Bu you’d always come away thinking you just seen a truly great player
Since 1963 by far and away the best Stoke player I’ve seen
