Very true Toxie. A luxury player if the right word doesn't look great if the team not performing. Baggio in the USA came in for almighty stick at home in the early games at the World Cup as an example at the highest level. They can look lazy as rely on the dirty work around them as well. As good an opportunity as any to dust this down I remember that game well. We'd just flogged thorney to baaadiff, everyone was a bit flat, then up steps hoeky. It was a good job Hanneman dived out of the way for that second goal as his head would have been knocked off. Only the netting prevented the ball from causing further injuries to the feeble away support 😂

According to my old fella they did. Used to shout for the gates to be opened so he could carry on running. Bit of a head down merchant by the sounds of it. That’s what my Dad used to say about Don Ratcliffe 😀

I missed a lot of the prem matches due to finance but he used to get loads of stick on here a lot of praise too and now we all dream to have his type of player playing for us It was mostly on here. I don't think he was much of a player for that level but it worked A. Because under Pulis players in his position weren't allowed to be much of a player. B. Under Hughes he normally played alongside N'Zonzi who was exceptional and made up for his weaknesses. We dream of that sort of player now because that type of player has been excluded from the squad altogether when there is obviously a time and a place for them. Even as DM's go he wouldn't be my choice of DM but neither would Kante who's accredited with being the one of the best in the world. I prefer a taller DM who can comfortably drop in and play like a centre half like Rice or Dier. It's all opinion nobody can be proved right or wrong. 😂😂😂you do talk rubbish at times mate

It’s an old joke with fans isn’t it ? At the Victoria Ground in the corner of the Boothen End and the Paddock was a little red gate that gave access to the track around the pitch - that was the gate they reputedly had “ manned” in case Don went on a run and couldn’t stop !! At the 150 year celebration ( which tbf was a bit underwhelming) my day was made when Don laughed, waved and sprinted a few yards. He was obviously aware of his reputation and still had a turn of speed - a super little moment.

Jones, Shaq, Arnie, Nzonzi, Wollscheid…. And I’d have all of the ‘lazy, sideways passing, donkeys’ back. Lol, yeh, agreed. That pretty much sums up Stoke fans. They used to complain about Bould, Chapman, Heath, Bracewell, Macguire, Kavanagh, Jon Walters, Kenwyne Jones, Pieters, Bardsley, Crouch, Cresswell, Whitehead. Dare I say Pulis? No not Anthony. Ok his dad didn't play but.... Stoke fans a brilliant at moaning, wanting changes and then moaning when those changes turn out to be shit. My mate and I almost ditched Stoke because of the incessent fucking moaning. Ended up going to WBA a couple of times but it was too much hassle on train and bus. I don't think it will change, we just have miserable moaning fans, always complaining and it's the whole pervasive vibe of the club. Downtrodden victims in a dump of a confused city, not satisfied but not willing to do anything about it.

Seems likely someone already said that. Just something I heard him say on a few occasions I could easily have got the name wrong. Sadly I can't check with the old boy. It probably was Don Ratcliffe he meant. He was always running down the wing like Roadrunner with very little return for his efforts. Harry Burrows was a cracking player and had the hardest shot I've ever seen from anyone in the red and white stripes. I saw him burst the old nets a couple of times. I'd bring back Huddy playing in front of the back line. All they'd need to do was give him the ball and watch what a real defensive/attacking midfielder looks like. There would be none of this passing the ball across the back line for half the game. Edit. Just realised this thread was also about fans getting on their backs. I never heard Huddy getting any stick. So, to fulfill that part of it, I'd go for Bouldy when he was a kid. I think he scored more own goals than any defender we've ever had. But what a fantastic player he became. OS. Harry was indeed a cracking player, as you say, he also had one hell of a shot on him, he could really leather a ball. He was the first Stoke player I saw score a hat trick, vs Villa 66/67, we beat them 6-1. I think I'm right in saying we got Harry from the Villa.

The 2-0 win over Reading immediately post-Thorne was 2001 - Hooky played centrally and was brilliant but didn't score. The hat trick against Reading was his last season for us, 2003-04.

You would have these guys in the team now? Better than 5/6 we’ve had in on Saturday I'm not sure Keith Scott was better than players in my 5 a-side team to be honest. It's bloody frustrating at the moment (to say the least). But we've had some real horseshit over the years. Far worse that what we have now in my opinion.
