My take on Maja. Capable of leading the line, he holds the ball up well mainly, has a good first touch. Low on confidence is showing but the whole squad are in that boat. Should have had at least one goal today and only he knows why he held up the play when Tyrese was clear. Would I sign him? Yes, for a couple of million, I think he has more to give, Fletch has had it, Tyrese is better wide and so is Brownie (another great effort from him today too). Holds the ball up well? Every centre half that’s come within a yard has batted him away like a gnat. Add to that he never wins anything in the air. Quoted fee was 3.5m, got to be better out there for that price. Another striker that isn’t quick, strong or prolific. I am judging him since January, not just today. No, I wouldn't shell out 3.5 either. Disagree totally over him being out muscled too. We are a Championship side and have to lower our sights, he wouldn't be a bad signing.

Missed 2 chances today that even Vokes would have scored. 😳

We’re simply in a bad place, decent players will look poor. Not saying he’s decent but he’s part of an overall problem of a team with no direction and very little confidence. There isn’t one player putting in consistently good performances. Maybe because they are not really good players. The sign of a good player is being able to produce performances regularly. I genuinely believe that we are codding ourselves about our team. If every one of them was playing at their best every week, then all our problems would disappear. Unfortunately that is not the case. Vrancic ,for example, has ability but contributed very little today and he wasn't the only one. Even Pirlo would look boring if noone moved around up the pitch for him. Didn't think Mario got involved enough today but it could be a combination of their marking and lack of movement around him too. The most comical bit was a throw-in ont he right when he was running loops and everyone else was just stood there.

I sit at the back of block 30, you can see a hell of a lot up there, Maja doesn't hide, he does work the line, to be honest he did look totally knackered on 70 mins, we were all calling for a sub.

No way should we buy him. He doesn't look dangerous at all when he gets the ball. He doesn't make any runs between defenders or run down the channels. No outlet at all for midfielders and Like a carthourse when he runs

What would we have to pay for Adebayo at Luton? At least 3-times the player Maja is!

Agreed. Not sure there's anything to discuss, don't pick him again even as a sub and definitely don't sign him. Doubt anyone will argue with that. O'Neill will. Sadly I believe you are correct

I might be in the minority but I saw it slightly differently, he missed the opportunity to find Campbell and waited for an overload down the right hand side which never came. So he kept the ball and laid it off, should have had a run at the defender but we were 1-0 up so we weren’t chasing the game. His overall play was patchy but I thought he did ok. Should have buried his chances but Fletcher has missed similar so I certainly wouldn’t have bet my shirt on him tucking them away……. I thought exactly the same, it was only when I realised the other players were still playing that I realised he hadn't been flagged offside but by then he'd missed the opportunity of a forward pass so did what was the best thing to do at that stage of the match and passed to a Stoke player to keep possession. If the opposition don't have the ball they can't score is a philosophy a lot of Stoke players forget when we're holding onto a lead. He is the best forward we have as a lone striker. All the others need to play wide or as one of two. As the lone striker he takes a lot of punishment - ankle taps, shirt holding, nudges and pushes but still, especially in the first half managed to lay off and pass to Stoke players even though he had to wait for them to get near to him. He was very isolated and DWP never got into the game today. Yes the pause in play was a very surreal moment but it was on the half way line so no guarantee it could have led to a goal. Brown (who had a brilliant game) was also guilty of missing a chance to play Campbell in by choosing to take a highly optimistic shot instead of slipping the ball wide to Tyrese. I think Maja looks well worth a punt at £3.5 million.

I thought our supporters treated him very poorly today.
I read earlier on another thread that Sima has had a wretched time of things, is desperately lonely and breaks down in tears during training. It's not an easy thing for a young footballer to go to another country.
I didn't think that Maja was very good today but we struggled to get any of our forwards into the game. Wright-Phillips was really poor, Vrancic barely had a kick and the Herculean Brown had to drag himself into the game with his usual grit and determination. I think he's a bit of a muddle at the moment - great hold up play but not big or physical enough to be a target man, too slow to play off the last man and not really a poacher either. He's young, raw and will improve.
Cheering and booing his substitution was way out of line. Already bereft of confidence, he looked distraught when he went off. At the final whistle, he got up and quietly trudged off to the dressing room with his head down, alone. Have some compassion.

What would we have to pay for Adebayo at Luton? At least 3-times the player Maja is! At least 3x what Maja would cost us and no guarantee that in our style of play he would look as good as he does for Luton. They play a very, what I call, formulaic style of football - if player A has the ball here, he is going to pass it here or do this, whereas MON allows a lot of freedom and decision making to his forwards.

I think iota unfair the stick he gets his link up play is quality he’s scored goals every where he’s been but now he’s shit !!!?? His service is shocking all he has is long balls booted up to him he’s not the biggest we have a couple half chances today that Tymon whipped in very good balls but he’s has scraps we don’t play to his strengths we play poor football when do we ever see our forwards have one on ones with the keeper surridge was shit he’s scoring for forest cambell is shit people are saying no matter if we had Ronald he would struggle score with how we are set up

People forget he's played only 45 minutes of football, off the back of a bad injury before he came here. We've seen the effects of a bad injury on Tyrese. He looks half the player. Will he come good? Who knows but at 3.5M it will always be a risk and what our fans need to quickly get our heads around is that this profile of signing, cheap, young with growth potential is our only show in town to grow our way out of this league by slow and steady investment and sell to buy. Not every one will come off but for god's sake, take your heads out of your arseholes for five minutes and look at the situation for what it is.

When he just stopped it was a surreal moment. I’ve never seen anything like that before, ever.
I really don’t know what to make of him.
After about 60 minutes he looked totally shattered and desperate to get off the pitch and his confidence was gone.
I’m still prepared to cut him some slack- he looks to me like a man who would benefit from top quality targeted individual coaching (like we’ve seen with Brown).
But I don’t think we’ve got the time for that- we need a No 9 who can hit the ground running next season.

This is the most competitively physical league in the world - do we really have to nurse our players through it (as seems to be suggested)?
I have no issue with him as a person but are we seriously interested in promotion?

Some posters are being far too harsh imo.
He missed two decent chances but prior to this game the team haven’t really created much for him. I think he’s pretty tidy with the ball into his feet and laying it off to others, but it hasn’t happened often enough in his time here and he’s also had a lack of support from other players.
I’ve seen enough to suggest there’s a decent player in there with a bit of confidence, the one thing that does concern me is that he’s lacking in pace but his work rate hasn’t been an issue.
