There is a stand put aside at Chelsea for celebrities and members of the cabinet - I think they will be well ‘looked after’.

How often has this kind of "sanction" occurred in the past 100 years? How many titles/trophies has Chelsea won since Abramovich took control? Yes, I think foreign ownership is fine, just be sure it's the right type of owner!

Anyone hear that spoilt little Chelsea rat on talksport just before 2. Selfish and just not at bothered about anything apart from his precious club. Kept saying why should something 5 thousand miles away affect my club.
I felt like pulling my radio out and lobbing on to the spitfire round about.

I've always been of the view Abramovich used Chelsea as a personal protection plan. While he was fronting up Chelsea Putin was unlikely to hit him. Also if it all went tits he laundered a big wedge of cash in his loans to Chelsea which he might one day sell. Now it looks like he had to have Putin's salty cock in his mouth for all those years for nothing. He might even be more worried about his own personal protection. His daughter is already under armed protection from the UK. I thought Roman and Putin were mates, which is why he's been sanctioned in the first place. We aren't sanctioning "mates" though are we? I understood that these were influencers. (and crooks)

I still don't understand how he managed to buy the club in the first place, did nobody bother to check where his money came from and how many people were murdered in order for him to attain his wealth? Money buys you a lot of influence. Hence why the Tories were dragging their feet for so long to sanction him. The main reasons western governments care so much about this war is because: 1. It is on the doorstep of the EU so it’s close 2. Nearly all of the casualties are white They can’t use racist tropes and arguments to distance themselves from the horror like they did for Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria etc.

20k is more than enough to get them there and back with Ryanair! not with 'in the hold' luggage. Flew with Ryanair last week and sure the hold luggage was in with the price, even managed to get a seat away from the wife 👍👍

(and crooks) I get that, but you suggested Roman might be on Putin’s hit list and I couldn’t understand why because I thought they were both partners in crime.

It's a lot easier to threaten him and his family (or bump him off) now he's not allowed in the UK and owner of Chelsea though eh?

They just wheeled David Mellor out on Newsnight.
I must admit I thought he might be in the 'Roman's a lovely fella at heart' camp but in fact he seemed to be of the opinion that he is up to his neck in it and his cock and balls should be cut off, mounted on a plinth and hung from Peter Osgood's statue. Well he didn't exactly say that but you get the drift!

Does it bother anyone where our owners money comes from? I couldn’t give a shit but I know a lot do. Yes of course it should matter. Otherwise we are at best tacitly allowing them to use football to whitewash their image. In the case of Abramovich it’s the Putin regime he has been supporting for decades and the Russian people him and the others oligarchs stole from to get rich in the first place. The Saudis it’s the blood washed from their opponents that they have tortured. Others high on the evil list are Mike Ashley, whose business practices were recently likened to a “Victorian workhouse” - remember the reports of the pregnant woman who gave birth in the toilet at the Sports Direct warehouse because she was terrified she would be fired if she missed her shift. Also, Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Thai prime minister alleged to have carried out thousands of extrajudicial killings and described by Human Rights Watch as “a human rights abuser of the worst kind I am also not fond of people getting rich through gambling (generally speaking exploiting poor, vulnerable and desperate people) either but it’s lower down my list.

One things for sure some, not all of the Chelsea fans haven’t come out of it very well.
I wonder if they’d still be chanting Abramavich’s name if they had all their titles removed and they were given a huge points ban sending them spiralling down the leagues.
Maybe then they might start gaining some morals. Those chanting his name really need to take a hard look at themselves.

Like Stoke fans would have been any different 🙄 It's important to acknowledge that it isn't all Chelsea fans who are singing his name, just like it wouldn't be all Stoke fans who would do the same. There are a lot of Chelsea fans condemning it too and you would hope that would be the same with any club.

I actually agree with this, why penalise fans for wanting to support the team. If any ticket sales are made these will just be frozen anyway.

Does it bother anyone where our owners money comes from? I couldn’t give a shit but I know a lot do. I do. I'm not completely comfortable being owned by a betting company and won't buy or wear anything with Bet365 on it (personal choice - I'm not here to criticise anyone who does). However if I was a Chelsea or a Newcastle fan I would have walked away. I'm sure some 'whatabout' may say 'but you don't know how much petrol in your tank comes fron Saudi' or some such but there's a line - and egregious sportswashing - for me at least - is that line.

Yeah I totally understand why it bothers folk and as you say, that's your choice. It's hard to know where to stop with stuff like that. I wouldn't like us to be owned by an Abramovich or the Saudi's and can see why people feel the same about our owners. But I think drinking is worse than gambling and no one seems arsed about that.

So far from reality it’s almost laughable. I suppose the reason “western governments” cared when Hitler kicked off was “ Nearly all of the casualties are white”? How about Vietnam, Kuwait, Korea, et al? Why do non-western governments care about the conflict in Ukraine? Not everything revolves around race or the EU. We have a nuclear super power flexing its muscles. I’ve got news for you ….. if nukes start being lobbed, suddenly people will stop worrying about superficial things (like skin color or the size of your bank account or petty political point scoring) and get down to what’s really important like saving lives.

They played with 3 on in the end... I wonder if there’ll be any consequences for that I imagine they have contractual protections, but the old adage “any PR is good PR” applies. I’d never even heard of 3 before, but now I’m aware of the company. Free advertising. If I was Chelsea I’d put a blank patch over the logo! Chelsea football club are not the villains. Abramovich’s assets have been frozen, let the club continue to perform and use its assets ……as long as Abramovich does not benefit in any way.

I actually agree with this, why penalise fans for wanting to support the team. If any ticket sales are made these will just be frozen anyway. I suppose you could say the same about Russian mainland sanctions. The Russian public aren't to blame for Putin's actions, but no doubt they'll be the ones who suffer far more than those in the Kremlin. The sanctions are designed so that the top echelons of business/society/politics have to change whatever they've been sanctioned for, before the whole lot comes crashing down on them as the bottoms rungs of society implode.
