Foreign is the way to go, but our board don't do forign, so we are stuck with British managers.
Don't know what our board have against forign managers, when the stats show they do better than the Brits.
When was the last time British manager won the League or any of the Cups?

Just shouting at players doesn’t work anymore. Is that his style then? Well he doesn't come across as the softly softly type does he

Don’t think they call him ‘Whispering Roy’… He's a winner who demands the best from his colleagues. Doesn't mean all he does is shout. Not sure I want him as manager but it's a better 'shout' than Dean Holden, imo.

They struggle to adjust to the fact that what they were capable of isn’t what their charges were capable of. Numerous players have slated his man management style, not just the constant shouting but the public digging out of players - you can get away with that now and again, you can’t get away with doing it regularly.

Holden would be a disaster. If we make a change it has to be a clean break, and I mean Rory with that aswell. Clear the whole lot out and refresh.
Very costly but there cannot be any half measures.

Whatever they’re trying to install/coach collectively isn’t working, so yes a clean sweep is required.

There are many worrying aspects about our form, tactics and football in general, but some people are losing their minds.
Roy Keane's been a failure pretty much everywhere as a manager. As for sacking the manager and putting the assistant in charge: that's the act of a club in crisis. We're nowhere near there- we're a team on a poor run of form in no danger of going up or down, it seems. We need stability at the moment- get through to the end of the season and see what's what then. If we do make a change at that point, and I'm not advocating that we should, we have much more time to make a good decision and a much bigger pool of options to choose from.

I agree with Rory, great servant and a lovely fella, but as a coach, I am not sure he's up to it. If we make a change, we need a fresh and bold approach..

It certainly wouldn’t be boring with him in charge. I like him and think the fans would be behind just not sure the dressing room or modern footballers would as they’re such divas. Just shouting at players doesn’t work anymore. I don’t remember much of his Sunderland Championship promotion side but there must have been a bit more than shouting though? (Can’t recall what style they played) They were bottom when he joined with 4 defeats from 4 games as well…..

I'd like to see Holden in charge, at least from now until the end of the season, just to see what he's capable of!!!
Ain't gonna happen though, the board won't push O'Neil!!!

Holden's a shoe in to be the next permanent manager I don't know about that, but it's clear that the MON era has run its course. Yes, the players seemed a lot more interested in playing for Holden against Hull, but that could be simply an "at least you're not MON" effect. And the Fulham game?

(Can’t recall what style they played) They were bottom when he joined with 4 defeats from 4 games as well….. The £10m he was given to spend (which was a fair wedge in those days in the Championship) made a big difference, allowing him to bring in assorted Ireland players, Man U or ex-Man U players as well as Carlos Edwards. Obviously he used it well enough but that is the lone season on his managerial CV that looks good.

As much as I appreciate what you’re saying, I’d have him in a heart beat. This club needs personality with something to back it up. He’s probably a much more placid manager now and certainly more so than his punditry would suggest.

What's he bringing to the table, what's he bringing to 'back it up'? Kanye West has personality, I wouldn't want him taking training.

Didn’t tremendous things at Sunderland. Ipswich was a load of shite but they’re a shite club. The way he talks about wanting to get back in now, my instinct is if somebody gives him a chance he might do another good job at the right club.

Yes, the players seemed a lot more interested in playing for Holden against Hull, but that could be simply an "at least you're not MON" effect. Or the effect that has an instant impact but wears thin quickly, Holden as far as I'm aware has nothing of note on his c.v to get the job, although he does come across as likeable Realistically O Neill isn't going anywhere until at the very least play offs are mathematically out of the question, 3 wins on the bounce he's gods gift again. How frustrating is it though when you see the team perform like they did V Hull & Fulham and then do a complete no show against Coventry, there has to be a reason why we can't keep a run going, what is it though?

If you are going to change manager then I can't really see any point promoting the assistant manager, it only really works short term and if you have a great team to start with.

He had one very good season at Sunderland with an enormous budget, it's a decent achievement but in the footballing pantheon one less impressive than, say, Phil Brown getting Hull promoted or Aidy Boothroyd taking Watford up.

Harsh, never put a foot wrong in the top league either. You’d hope somebody will have a decent budget here next season also.

They couldn't manage to beat the Mighty Potters that year though if I recall........

I think if I was John Coates replacing the manager my number 1 choice would be trying to tempt Allardyce with a £10m promotion bonus and a renewed contract & attractive transfer budget on promotion to re-establish the club as a Premier League outfit. It might not be the prettiest rpute to success but it would be effective.
I'd rather not go up and get spanked every week and then end up back in div 2. Allardyce could establish us. O Neill probably could imo but we've got to get there with for him to do it

He about three months in the top league and was gone after a run of five defeats in six games including a 4-1 home gubbing by Bolton. I'm not sure what kind of budget we'll have but I'd be astonished if it was as competitive as that one.
