He is not, and I cannot stress this enough, 'like Whelan'. You should read again what I wrote. I did not say that he was like Whelan. I said that his contribution/play was, like Whelan's, criticised. You literally used the words 'he's like Whelan'. His contribution is rightly criticised, he's even acknowledged himself in the past that he hasn't been playing well. He had a good game against Hull but that isn't reflective of his season generally. If he was that key, surely there would be a queue for him now, with six months left on his contract?

Joe Allen was magnificent via Hull. The negativity regarding him on this board is absurd. as for Davies (this IS a thread about him right?) well, he's the best keeper we have on our books at this point.

This gives me a rare opportunity to use one of my favourite words - defenestration!

Looks like the Sheff U manager, Heckingbottom, was his manager at Barnsley for a couple of seasons, so makes sense.
I thought Andy Cousins' comments pre-match on Radio Stoke on Sunday, were interesting, when he praised Bonham as "fitting the way we want to play", with the implication being that Davies doesn't.

We've still got Frank Fielding haven't we? Left at the beginning of the window. Where to?

From the little I've seen of Bonham, he doesn't strike me as a ball playing goalkeeper. In fact I saw Bellis moaning at him at least twice for kicking the ball long when he wanted him to knock it short to one of his defensive partners.

Bursik must be closer to fitness than we thought. I can’t see us leaving Bonham as the only fit senior goalkeeper. Two decent games but I’m sure many will be calling for his head if he makes a mistake versus Fulham. Bonham is going get absolute twated against fulham That's the spirit.

Not sure why we would let him go now. End of season I can understand.

I wouldn’t lose any sleep if he did go but we’re a bit light with Bursik being injured so I can’t really see it.

Why where’s Joe Allen going? You were all for getting rid of Thompson but I’d far rather he stayed and Allen went. You're crackers. Don't you watch how he plays? He ran the midfield against Hull. I know, you'll say that they are a poor side, but watch his movement. How many interceptions he makes, how many clearances he makes, how many through passes he plays. He's like Whelan, in that you won't know what you've lost, until he's gone. Whelan was criticised all the time, the same as Joe. You've got to be on something, Joe Allen through passes. He makes tackles and interceptions and usually gives the ball away with his very next touch. Whelan was pretty shit too and benefitted massively from playing so many games next to N'Zonzi who's excellence made them an adequate pairing. Personally I prefer my CDM taller and more physically imposing.

Bonham is going get absolute twated against fulham That's the spirit. Why because I don't rate Gillinghams second keeper? My opinion is he's a third choice keeper and shouldn't be first.

Other than having that binder against QPR he's looked dodgy to me, you know there's an error around the corner.

I think he's a decent keeper, Bonham not really been tested yet but he will be v fulham. Not sure on Bursik just yet Davies and Bursik are as average as each other. I'd have Davies ahead of Bursik (just!), but if we can get some sort of fee for Davies then I don't mind reverting to Bursik next month. Bonham might even surprise us and put in some decent performances, but our priority now must be to get in a decent keeper if not this window, then in the summer.

Yeh it would be perfect if Chester and fox went also Only if we bring in a couple of players to replace them, which would most likely have to be loans who are happy to sit on a bench, i.e., not the “cream of the crop”.

Yeh a couple of decent loans would be fine till the end of the season. Wouldn’t be to hard to find 2 better players even if they do have to sit on the bench. We haven’t got the money for cream of the crop unfortunately

We haven’t got the money for cream of the crop unfortunately I would say THB and potentially Ostigard are seen as “cream of the crop” loans for a Championship team. One had great reviews from Coventry and is now in Serie A, even if in a team who are getting hammered often. The other is seemingly part of Man City’s long-term plans and was on loan at a big European side earlier this season. So really, we’d be looking at bringing in players below the level of Ostigard, which is no different to Chester/Fox.
