You can stack the odds heavily in your favour though if you identify the type of player you need, know your market, look for that player, be sure he is half decent and then do your homework on said player, character, injuries and that they are going to fit what you want to do etc.. The in depth detail is all the more important when you're on a budget. We've got Baker now but he's been staring us in the face for seasons, without as far as I'm aware a slither of interest apart from recently. Players that make the difference will always be available, it depends how deep you're willing to dig to find them and further dig to make sure you're signing the right player to fit what you want to do. The u23's/reserves of all the rich clubs have players that will walk this level and become available at some point, either on loan or permanent. We should know that market inside out, I'll bet you we don't though I bet you're a wizard when playing Football Manager! Think getting your computer games confused there

He needs more around him.
He's been at his best with Powell in front of him and their link up play has been great.
Same with when JPB has been on too.
Great goal return and overall he's been good but I think there's more to come.

A real goal threat, but played far too deep at the weekend.

A real goal threat, but played far too deep at the weekend. Agreed. The difference in his performances last weekend and last night was like chalk and cheese. He appears to be a highly competent central/attacking midfielder with a surprisingly good long shot and free kick ability. To play him in a defensive role makes no sense at all. I'd give him the captain's job next season and any game this season when Allen is not playing. Shame he was cup tied - I reckon we might have beaten Palace had he been playing.

Why do Radio stoke keep saying that Lewis Baker is out of contract at the end of the season?
Didn't he sign a 2 and a half year deal?

Why do Radio stoke keep saying that Lewis Baker is out of contract at the end of the season? Didn't he sign a 2 and a half year deal? Possibly because they are rubbish?

Need to build a team around him, Soutar and Campbell if fully fit.

I think he is a good player, gets goals, excellent set pieces, but as a team we have not performed well when he starts. In the games since October (when our form first dipped) we are averaging 1.53 ppg when he doesn’t start versus 0.73 when he does. Obviously there are other factors as to why we have been so poor from January to now.
For me, he’s an improvement on Clucas, but similar in the type who gets you goals but doesn’t do much when comes to facilitating others, and is not great when it comes to defensive positioning. He needs to be in a 3 with a creative and a defensive midfielder (which we don’t have).

I’m sure it’s happened, but it’s not been obvious. Given the sample size of the games he’s played in since his move and the massive confounding of Powell’s absence since he’s arrived, I’d wait before making anything of ppg’s etc.

Take out his goals in those games and our ppg would have been worse and we'd likely be neutral or negative on goal difference.

How can you argue our form dipped from October when we won our first 3 games in November, our best run of the season (two with Souttar still available which I would argue is a significant factor)? We have played 16 games since he joined and he has played in 15. We took 17 points from the 15 games before he joined and 14 from the 15 he has played in, I don't think any statistician would conclude anything from that.

Lewis is It’s too early to say if he is or not, maybe he’ll go onto be, hopefully he will. If he contributes nearly as much as a Stoke player as Powell has to date then he’ll be in the conversation.
