I’m not one for hyperbole, but Lewis Baker is surely the greatest football player to grace a pitch anywhere in the known universe. I’d go as far to say the greatest in any universe, should more than one exist.

Baker looks to be a real bargain though!

Would you not chance your arm in the market in the summer for a younger, runner type? Someone in the mould of Joe Rothwell at Blackburn? I’d definitely go all out for Rothwell in the summer. Would he be able to play alongside Baker in a midfield 2 behind Powell possibly? I think he could play there, might have to sacrifice some of bakers positivity though to make it work.

That was my initial thought, but he looks more than capable defensively from what we’ve seen of him so far. Though I guess Ryan Woods was good for the first month as well.

I’d definitely go all out for Rothwell in the summer. Would he be able to play alongside Baker in a midfield 2 behind Powell possibly? He's more of an 8 and plays exactly where Powell started last night, on the left of a three. I was thinking more his attributes, to sit behind a striker and either run off a forward or carry the ball with pace. He’d be an expensive signing to rotate alongside Powell. If Allen goes, I just see us bringing in a ball-winner. If we don’t spend too much, then the yearly save on Allen’s wages will help fund a transfer as well.

I mean, I don’t think there’s a cat in hell’s chance we get him unless we get promoted ourselves, he seems destined for the PL. I just feel that possibly Baker sitting in a little more, which he’s already shown he can do well, alongside Rothwell and Powell is, hypothetically at least, a very, very good Championship midfield.

He can do a bit of everything seemingly.
And he does it well.
Potentially one of our most important signings of the post Premiership era.
(Otherwise known as the dogshit years)

I wouldn’t be against bringing another in in that mould due to his well-publicised fitness troubles or if we look to shift him deeper long-term, he looks like he does bloody everything, and he does it all very well.

baker, allen, sawyers, thomson is a very good 4 for the 2 spots. lets hope there all here at the start of next season Thompson is nowhere near their level I'm afraid. 100% agree but a good enough cheap 4th option?

Rolls Royce.
I was sceptical because of how many clubs he’s been farmed out to but he’s absolutely mustard.

Class. Don’t suppose he’s got a brother? That would be the midfield sorted and never having to see Allen or Clucas again,

Different class at this level. He strong & can put a foot in, doesn’t waste a pass, set pieces are quality, drives forward & has a decent strike.
Could just do with unearthing another one him to play alongside him in the middle.

MON says he tried to get him last summer. I wonder where we would be in the table if we had signed him then.
Obviously he's really learned his trade well as he moved from club to club on loan. I'm gob smacked that it appears to be MON and the Stoke scouting staff who spotted just how good he is. Most un Stoke like to get a gem like him - for free!

Way to good for this league, how we pulled that off is beyond me! Build the midfield around him!

I know his bank balance is healthy and his high salary could have ended up costing him moves in the last 2-3 years.
But how does a player of this class find himself just basically putting down roots, for the first time, at 26 - after half a season of u23 football?
It's bizarre.
I wonder how many permanent moves he's been offered and how many have been turned down in the last 5 years?
It's crazy when you think the brains trust at Chelsea must have, over successive regimes, thought that he was miles off the standard they were looking for.

Have you seen the players they have out on loan? It’s ridiculous and shouldn’t be allowed, as you say it’ll top your bank balance up but unless you’re a supreme talent then moving to one of the big boys is career suicide.

Baker looks to be a real bargain though! Until he realises he’s not part of Chelsea anymore and he’s a division lower, no where near London. 😬

How many more players, in the age bracket of 19-24, have Chelsea got festering away with the rubbish under their stands, that they've probably forgot even exist?
Absolutely criminal a player of Baker's ability has been left to waste a good 6 years of his career globetrotting and sweeping out stands.

Been unlucky with injuries, wasn't he namechecked by Mourinho on his 2nd spell as Chelsea manager, that he would have failed if Baker, Solanke and Izzy Brown I think were not England internationals. Chelsea's whole business model was to put youngsters on decent wages then loan them out so the loaning club was paying loan fees and or % of wages, if they did well flog them for money, do really keep them. Last year they banked £55m for Abraham and Guehi, they've done it with lots of players even the players they fucked up letting go De Bruyne, Salah, Lukaku they made healthy profits on.
