Are you suggesting that Tymon and Alfie (left - right) might be a viable WB option should Smith be unavailable or out of form? Depends really on how consistent Doughty's right foot is. He seemed to be able to put decent crosses in with it yesterday - so, in terms of attacking, he'd be quite useful if he could both get to the byline and cross with his right or cut in and cross or shoot with his left. But (big but) how well can he defend when he is on the "wrong" wing? Some players (Griffin being an obvious Stoke example) can defend on the "wrong" wing - others certainly can't.

Strange that we are supposedly signing Duhaney and he's still playing as a trialist in the under 23's?.

It’s not easy to be comfortable tackling on your wrong side. The balance is off, it looks clumsy and it can often leave you flat footed. He didn’t really have to do any defending when he came on, so it’s not easy to know if he could be a viable option at right wingback. It would be great if he could. He looks a fantastic prospect and having him involved in more games feels like a good thing to me.

Perhaps still taking a look and perhaps it’s down to fitness, getting effectively the preseason in to which by all accounts I’m guessing he’s missed. While we got Smith playing well and not much space/need for him on the bench - maybe a stint in the u23s be good development anyways. TOB spent most a season playing with them.

My mind can't begin to imagine the pronunciation variables involved for Nige and Pejic if Doughty and Duhaney play together

If he's not good enough for a Huddersfield side who've struggled for a few seasons now, he isn't good enough for Stoke.

If he's not good enough for a Huddersfield side who've struggled for a few seasons now, he isn't good enough for Stoke. To be fair, a lot of people would have said that about Tymon before this season kicked off.
Let's not fall into the same trap we pretty much all fell into with him. It's a serious lesson we've been given over him.

If I was Demeaco, I'd feel like the fat bird at the end of the disco waiting for a bloke with ten pints' worth of beer goggles to ask her to dance. We have hardly made him feel wanted, or even remotely like our first choice, have we?
"So Demeaco, we have scoured the western world for anyone who has ever played right back before, who is under 30 and cheap as chips, but we haven't found anyone decent, so will you sign for us?"
File as underwhelming.

Mike Sheron wasn't good enough for Norwich before his move to Stoke..... Shall i continue or shall we just wait and see?

If he's not good enough for a Huddersfield side who've struggled for a few seasons now, he isn't good enough for Stoke. Suppose if he is on a short term deal as emergency cover, it’s really up to him to prove his worth and a get longer contract on performance. I’d much rather see this approach (if we can’t get the player we’d really like at the moment) rather than giving out long expensive contracts to average players I.e. the likes of Moritz Bauer.

Exactly, he's just cover and a bench warmer. I want a bloody effective striker and a pacy winger to improve the team!

No issues with signing Duhaney assuming he is better than what we have in the U23s, we need an alternative RWB for the times when Smith is not available, Doughty did well there the other day but it's good to have another natural RWB option in the squad. Who knows, he may realise some of that potential he had a few years ago, if not it's a very low risk signing for us anyway.

MON - “He will provide good competition for Tommy Smith and has an opportunity between now and January to secure a longer-term contract with us.”

Seems to be a 4 month trial opportunity with the option for us to pitch him into 1st team action if ready and/or required.
Very low risk for the club.

Door still open for Edwards? Or is that a coincidence? That would be my interpretation. If the reports coming back from the states have been encouraging them we’d be silly not to take another look and another chance. Could be as well that Tommy’s contract is up next summer anyways and perhaps we have more perm target that we’ll try again for in Jan and if not July? So risk free for us. This is the sort of signing that 5 years ago would have been given at least a 3 year contract. Amazing how much we are in control and fully strapped into the driving seat of these deals!

Sensible transfer policy. What have they been putting into the tea at stoke? Have lessons finally been learnt.
