Not surprised. It is a cheap option to cover for Smith. The downside is that it doesn't put much pressure on Smith to up his game. But, looking on the bright side, Smith has been on a bit of a roll this season with his three assists and decent attacking play. Had he been the Smith we saw last year, I would have been more worried than I am. Another bonus is that Ostigard seems the ideal right sided player in a back three - a good defender, hard as nails and well able to support his wing back in defence and attack.

Probably understandable if we're struggling to find a loan happy to come as back-up.
And he's still only 22.
What do we reckon - initial 1-yr deal?

I quite liked what I saw in the Under23s. Only a glimpse but looked promising to me. Maybe we feel we can improve his game too.

It would make sense for 2 years - just to help the transition in case Smith is on his way in a years time - at a guess I imagine the club would have done a year with an option to extend or similar. Great little signing considering the very limited options we had around that area - if this is our last in coming then we have to now hope we can keep MoN here with us for a few years. Amazing transfer window and quick fire turn around.

Scored a nice goal against us when Man City battered us in the Youth Cup semi

With his spell at Huddersfield in consideration it has to be one year doesn’t it?
You don’t want to be lumbered with someone who’s utter crap for 2 years when there’s no need to be.
Have an option for a second year if he does ok.

Was he at Huddersfield at the same time as Smith ? If so this shadow role will be very familiar to him !

Joined their youth setup in 2018, before being promoted the season Smith left.

I think I will watch his progress with interest!

Fair do's. The Huddersfield, right back equivalent of 'the' Lasse Sorensen?

Obviously this is the cheap option (well second cheapest after promoting Coates)
Collins money has been spent on Wilmot, Surridge and pay offs to the bomb squad
Suggests either we are spent up or we saving any available £££ for a loan striker (or winger)
Also suggests we don't expect any more outgoings (other than the youngsters going on loan)

I'm assuming as he was released by Huddersfield after comparatively few games that he didn't set the world alight for them. And he didn't impress enough to get a contract at Wigan. But, that isn't to say he won't blossom into a cracking player - I certainly hope he does. He's at an age when players can sink or swim in terms of their future.

So presumably this means Ince isn't even back-up RWB when this goes through?

You'd think he'd have to go somewhere between now and Tuesday, as there now seems to be about as much chance of Pottermus getting on the pitch in a league game. There must be a McClean-type deal out there for him?

He's been assessed by the coaching and transfer team for a couple of weeks now. Didn't seem out of place in the U23s game (looked better than most to be fair) and must be integrating well with the 'group'. We need cover in this position and if the management think he's the best option then ok by me.
Who knows - could free up a bit of cash for a last minute surprise signing? Especially as this has to mean ineffectual Ince must be on the way out.

I am quietly pleased with this. I don't know how good Duhaney is but I do know at 22 he is still not the fully developed product. Furthermore I can't remember how long it is since we had a management/coaching team that is so committed and successful at acquiring and/or developing young players. I am starting to lose count. The academy was established decades ago with top class facilities and Pulis, Hughes, Rowett, and Jones spurned the facility, generally taking the easier option of buying other clubs misfits, rejects, and cast offs. Occasionally that worked; Pulis was the only one who actually built a team, while Hughes tweaked what he inherited to make it perform better, but failed to sustain it. When MON arrived he was told Campbell was on his way out of the club. Well he sharp changed that. Other young players are blossoming.
Not all young players will make the grade, and Duhaney may not. Most young players fail to establish a career in the game and drift down and out of the league. But I am confident he will get every chance and plenty of help to succeed. I wish him welcome and every success.

We have spread our risk this summer with a mix of short-term (Vrancic and Ostigard), potential (Wilmott, Surridge), a mix of the two in Sawyers and now a cheap gamble in Duhaney. Together with the benefits now flowing from the willingness to promote/back youth under MON (Bursik, Collins, Souttar, Campbell, Tymon, Brown) and the huge number of contracts ending next summer, we are in a potentially excellent place however this season goes. It is a well-designed strategy so far, now the test is to deliver

Fringe players in centre mid, centre back and up front all have a decent chance of featuring, as they have more than one shirt to gun for. But second choice wing back or goalie can be a thankless task if the incumbent stays fit and in decent form. Surely there was no way realistically we'd have induced a 20 year old PL prospect to come here as competition / understudy to Tommy Smith?

Started for Huddersfield at Stoke in last seasons 4-3 game, played an hour in the game their debut keeper kept making errors when we pressed their pass out from the back.
