Might have missed this earlier in the thread, but can someone enlighten me on how to pronounce his name is it v-ran-chich? Nice try Nige. I am afraid we are all going to be tuning in to Radio Stoke just to see how you do.

I thought Devine did ok for us as a steady pro. Wasn’t it Eric Young who badly broke his leg with a nasty challenge leaving Devine with one leg three quarters of an inch shorter than the other and forcing him to retire? It was indeed, around 1987 wasn't it? Reckon it could well be as I recall what job I was doing then. It’s funny, ask me what happened in any year and I haven’t a clue. Ask me what part of a footballing event corresponded with my life or vice versa and I’m on it.😂😂

I don't see why it's a problem he didn't start a lot for Norwich. They're a top side, the beat side in the division the past season and in 2019.

I used to know someone who worked at the Stakis Grand Hotel in the 80's where John Devine had a room & was staying & he got me an official Stakis A4 letter headed sheet full of signatures! Was well chuffed back then. Remember Louie Donawa's signature on there aswell as he was on loan from Norwich & was probably mates with Devine! Talking remembering events & it's tie in with certain matches I remember taking part in a 24hr charity 5 a side match on the car park of the Stakis (again coincidentally!) & in the evening Tony Lacey came as a representative of the club & I got chatting all things Stoke to him, it was the Saturday that we'd just beaten Huddersfield 3-0 I think it was at the Vic. It was the game when Graham Shaw emerged and scored on his debut!.. I remember Lacey saying Stoke had unearthed a gem of a player from the youth set up! He'd obviously been listening to Mick Mills to much as back then Shaw was deemed a better possibility & prospect than a young emerging David Platt was from Crewe! Funny looking back!

The club should not let it's transfer dealings be dictated by another players contract. If Powell wants out why should we want to keep him and if he isn't happy with having competition for his place his attitude stinks and we should get rid. We've got grafters (although a beast of a DM would be good) so what exactly is wrong with having 2 creative midfielders in the squad or even in the same team? Very happy with this signing - far higher quality to what I was expecting to be honest. Great, pity you're quoting the wrong post. I haven’t suggested anything other than I believe Powell's contract would have been a higher priority IMO. I'm sure his contract IS a high priority. He could have been offered the best contract at the club months ago but is refusing to sign it. Powell usually runs his contact down and leaves for free - perhaps that's what he is doing with us. People seem to think that, just because he hasn't signed a new contract, that he hasn't been offered one.

Couldn't agree more....his contracts probably been there to sign for months....while I don't think vrancic signing means he's a direct replacement we do look to be covering our own arses.

Happy with this signing, someone who is comfortable on the ball and can pick a pass two attributes often missing from our midfield!! The speculation that he is a replacement for Powell seems a little bizarre. Surely our esteemed recruitment team wouldn't replace one player who has the potential to hit 15 league goals in a season with one who has scored 15 in 121 league games for Norwich? They wouldn't would they??

If MON decides to go 4-2-3-1, I can see Powell on the right of the three with Mario in the middle, Doughty on the left, and Ty or Fletch up front.

That would be ok now and then as an option but a shame if it becomes the go-to. Would be a waste of Powell. Good to have some flexibility and additional creative options though.

I can’t see where he will fit in at the moment, but in spite of his weaknesses, MON can organise his team and must have some idea. My fear is this the replacement for Clucas who we thought would leave but Clucas is staying, JOM has left instead and this guy won’t fit the team.

He said in his interview he likes to play 8 or 10 so why can’t Powell and vrancic play in the same team? There’s always a negative when something good happens on this page,
Signing vrancic doesn’t automatically mean Powell is leaving.

You have to understand that whenever we sign a player it means someone is leaving. We sign a reserve keeper and it means our first choice is leaving. The fact that half a dozen have left the last few days and doesn't come into it either.

With this signing and without us having signed a forward player could see Powell playing in the front three until Campbells return.

Signing someone who's on Powell's wavelength is a positive not negative. Precisely. I had started to wonder whether there is a law against having two technically able players on the pitch at the same time!

It is possible Mario could also be deployed further back as a defensive midfield partner alongside a "to be signed" replacement for JOM - the replacement doing the hard tackling and work off the ball, with Mario dictating play with incisive passes forward. Or in a 4-3-3, Mario and Powell can play together in front of the holding midfielder. Mario definitely brings much needed technical craft that you just don't get from Clucas or Allen.
