Delighted with the win but have to ask what we’re your opinions re the penalty?
Taking off my England specs and viewing the situation as a total neutral, or an opposition fan , what would I have thought about it ?
It seemed to me that he , Grealish, battled past his opponent but then cut across him and trailed his leg LOOKING FOR CONTACT and a PENALTY!
If correct is this cheating or just a part of the game we now accept?
Great if it goes for you, but bloody infuriating when it’s against. ⚓️

Should have been a foul outside the box, he dived and swung his leg when he got into it.

Wouldn't have been given 10 years ago. Stinks to high heaven, having being brought up watching the likes of Chelsea v Leeds 1970 cup final that was brutal but accepted, Man United and Arsenal kicking lumps out of each other was accepted, tackle from behind was hard but fair, sliding muddy tackles I could go on and on. The game is soft as shite to be honest. Not been helped by the "entitled to go down" pundits has it? Spanish penalty my arse Brendan! Wenger has almost got his wish for it to be a non contact sport. Its a shame that the millenium kids of today have never seen the real game and must think people like me are just moaning old twats who live in the past. Maybe I do but it was a far better game, VAR my arse!!

Grealish is a hideous cheat. He is not the most fouled player. He is someone who constantly simulates fouls to gain an unfair advantage. He falls over if a butterfly flaps its wings within 10 yards of him. I barely watch matches that involve the little runt due to the homicidal rage he generates within me. His skill is negated for me by his degeneracy. Just My opinion though 😂

It was really unpleasant to see, a ridiculous piece of gamesmanship, quite embarrassing in fact.
Your first and almost only obligation as a football player is to try to remain on your feet, if you don't do that then we don't have a sport at all.

He did just that 5mins before the pen to get a free kick. The one where the defender briefly wrapped his arm around him. The contact was minimal and not enough to bring him down. Grealish could clearly have stayed on his feet, got the ball in space and attacked the area. He chose to throw himself to the ground instead to get the free kick.

The game has evolved and the anger at perceived cheating by older supporters is not endorsed by the next generation of footballers.
It’s time, as with many other things, to hand the baton over to them and let them run with it.

I'm English, an England fan, Jack Grealish won us a penalty which won us the game. Good on the lad.
Because I'll tell you something every other player in the Euros will be trying to do the same. If you can't beat em...
Drawing fouls is a big part of the game now, for better or worse.

It was really unpleasant to see, a ridiculous piece of gamesmanship, quite embarrassing in fact. Your first and almost only obligation as a football player is to try to remain on your feet, if you don't do that then we don't have a sport at all. The modern referees must take a share of the blame for the ease with which players go down in the area. A foul is still a foul even if a player doesn't go to ground but in every game we see fouls in the penalty area not given, which would have been given by the same ref if they had happened outside the area. What that does is put in attackers mind set that they need to go to ground if they are touched in the area. Grealish happens to be cleverer at it than most - but most attackers now do it. If referees applied the laws of the game fairly and didn't wait for a player to go to ground before they awarded a foul in the area, they'd be in a stronger position - and they could dish out more yellow cards for dives when there had not been a foul. There was a case at Stoke a few years back against Swansea when a Swans player clearly pulled a Stoke player's shirt as he ran across the area with the ball at his feet. The Stoke player (can't remember who) went down and won the penalty. The Swans manager protested that the Stoke player didn't need to go to ground so it wasn't a penalty. He was right in one way, the Stoke player didn't NEED to go to ground. But if he hadn't gone to ground he would still have lost the ball because the tug on his shirt made him lose his momentum. So the Stoke player had done the only thing he could do to get a penalty for what was clearly a foul which meant he lost possession of the ball. Sort out the refereeing and you go a long way to sorting out the problem.

Romania spent the game kicking fuck out of Grealish. If that made them think twice about it and that maybe that approach might have the odd unpleasant consequence for them then I won't be shedding any tears about it.

If a player is constantly fouled on refs blind side then what does he do? I’m no way condoning cheating but remember Moses getting continual shirt pulling and other off the ball fouling by Swansea's Rangel. He kind of half dived half fell to get a penalty. Everybody screamed cheat including MOTD pundits. Then on the Sunday newspapers were running the story and showed photo of Rangle pulling Moses shirt on the refs blind side before he went down. John Hartson made a public apology for his cheat accusation. Don’t know what the answer is but diving isn’t.

If getting a very dodgy or cheating penalty gets us into a semi final or final of a major tournament then I will take it any day of the week. We deserve
I look back at the injustices we have had, like the hand of god, Sol Campbell golden goal v the Argies, Lampards goal versus the Germans

Trailing your leg to gain a penalty is Cheating in my book. There are a lot of things in the modern game that piss me off no end.
Would love it if the game was played like it was in the 60s and 70s,but it won't happen,we will just have to sit and watch while the players find new ways to cheat.

Southgate, "Hendo was the captain on the field by then. He was the one to make the decision. If I was Dom as the centre-forward I might not have gone along with that so easily."
So Southgate seeing himself as a player would have gone against the captain's decisionmaking. What on earth does the manager need a captain for then? Apart from making the coin dance right, obviously.

So Southgate seeing himself as a player would have gone against the captain's decisionmaking. What on earth does the manager need a captain for then? Apart from making the coin dance right, obviously. Basically, Southgate is just suggesting it was a pretty poor decision by Henderson - which it clearly was. During games, when the score is close, captains must make EVERY decision with a view to maximising the chances of winning the game. As we were only winning 1-0 the decision for Henderson to take the penalty rather than a striker who scores them regularly, was clearly wrong. It might have made sense if we were winning comfortably - but we weren't. I hope Henderson will have taken note and learned the lesson.

Usually someone then comments the games gone and it never happened in his day. Rashford dived for a pen also.

Grealish did what loads of forwards do in the game these days. He created a foul by the way he positioned his body and legs in such a manner that it would have been impossible for the defender to avoid contact. Then threw himself to the ground.
I'm afraid that is what the game has come to. Another example is an attacker being chased by a defender suddenly stops so the defender runs into the back of them to win a free kick.
The old days of a player beating a man to then centre, shoot, etc. have been overtaken by an attacker seeking a foul to win a free kick.
Let's be honest, there was no greater exponent of leaving a trailing leg so a tackler tripped the attacker than Charlie Adam. He was a past master at it and won countless free kicks for Stoke.

I don't disagree about the game being stop/start mate, and in general I hate all the play acting and "had the right to go down" culture in today's game. I just can't be doing with all the misty eyed notion that the game was far better back in the day, because players didn't cheat, because they did, but just in different ways. Were there aspects of the game that were better back then? Most definitely, but there are aspects of today's game that are better too, and in my opinion, the authorities and referees are more to blame than the players for allowing the crap that goes on in today's game.

It was a dickheaded move by Henderson, who put his own ego before the needs of the team - the last thing a captain should do. Definitely. It smacked of a complete lack of professionalism because it was "only a friendly". Hopefully Southgate has got the bollocks to give it him in the dressing room after as he alluded to in his interview. One thing it showed, was that if he steps up for a penalty in a shoot out it's time to pack our bags
