Why are people still discussing this? I thought that ship had already sailed.

Why are people still discussing this? I thought that ship had already sailed. Apparently its still being held in the Canal Zone, with interested parties demanding huge sums of money to pay the recovery costs.

I don’t think it is totally free yet but obviously a major improvement. My guess is they are waiting for the next high tide to fully free it. Can only hope there has been no damage to the hull. I would not be suprised to hear that the Egyptian authorities impound the ship and hold it at anchor until an inquiry and costs are sorted out ? ⚓️ Don’t want to sound smug, but.! 🤪⚓️

We have goods on that ship and are being asked to pay towards the release under Force Majeure guidelines. We have told em to get stuffed, the goods are not worth what they are demanding from us. And we have been able to gap fill from a uk supplier albeit at a higher cost.

Just some spacers and rubber gromets, that actually go on an oil filter for Ford Transit Vans.

Once again, the Egyptians proving that they're bent and corrupt as fuck. Not necessarily because the fee to transit the Suez for a ULCC is in the region of 40,000 USD. Many large container and oil carriers diverted round the Cape plus the cost of hiring the large tugs, excavation equipment and other expertise not to mention the damage repairs. Would imagine the 900m is a starting point for the Egyptians while the full cost is being calculated. In my opinion it was a technical failure of some description on the Ever Given because the reported sudden gust of 30 knot wind is not unusual in that area and the ships bow and stern thrusters would easily have coped. An operator error or GPS/bow thruster failure seems most likely cause in which case you’d thing the ship's insurers would be liable.

Hell is where the chefs are British, the mechanics French, the lover's Swiss, the police German, it's all organised by the Italians, and the Egyptians operate a major world shipping route.
