I'm sure those guys should all be wearing hard hats or Safety Helmets, especially with all of those containers around! Mind you this is Egypt, and maybe Health and Safety is viewed a bit differently there. i.imgur.com/QvG5Rdr.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/QvG5Rdr.jpg"Try one more nudge lads then its tea break time."

I’m not sure hard hats provide much protection on this scale. They’d be lucky to identify you 😂

Would imagine that it's mired in the banks and they're going to have to at least partially unload it to get the draft (draught?) to rise up enough to bust it loose. What a mess.

Any seafaring people know who pays for this recovery attempt. Is there an accident contingency fund, or do all the Ships' operators chip in a bit. Are there surchases to be added for all passage through the canal to make some cash? Or more likely the Egyptian Government has to pay and then try to get it back from the Ship's owners.
With all the cash in hand and overtime payments to digger drivers and workers on site it must all come to a tidy sum, unless they use a lot of traditional or historic Egyptian slave labour practices.

As of Sunday morning there are now around 300 merchant ships gathered to either side of the blockage and in the area of the Canal.
There was a time when such an occurence or event of such magnitude in Egypt would be proclaimed to be a "Plague of Ships"

Don’t know the answers to your questions but it is going to run into many millions of dollars and I anticipate lengthy litigation. I am sure it must have been legally established but I have often wondered; In the event of an incident such as this who is ultimately responsible for the handling of the ship, the Captain or the Pilot. ? ⚓️

Huge oil refinery explosion and fire in Indonesia. The conspiracy theorists are getting tetchy And what does this have to do with a ship blocking the Suez Canal? Not me personally, however I've seen it mentioned & I quote: "Suez canal blocked, oil refinery blows up during the night in Indonesia, stocks go low, panic goes high, prices rocket, you see it yet?"

Huge oil refinery explosion and fire in Indonesia. The conspiracy theorists are getting tetchy And what does this have to do with a ship blocking the Suez Canal? Oil supply is becoming restricted, because of the passage issue in Suez, and now an important Oil producer suddenly has their production capacity drammatically reduced. There is now less Oil supply available in the trade system, so whatever countries might want sustainable supplies are going to have to pay more for it. A full Oil Tanker already passing through and out of the Med for example is now worth many millions of dollars more than it was a week ago. Its economic supply and demand. Trade and Transport logistics will now demand that alternative sources of oil will now have to be looked at. Countries such as Iran and Russia would certainly have much to gain in the current situation. Mind you, in the early hours of Monday morning now, and I have as yet heard no news about an Indonesian Oil refinery incident.

I don’t think it is totally free yet but obviously a major improvement.
My guess is they are waiting for the next high tide to fully free it.
Can only hope there has been no damage to the hull.
I would not be suprised to hear that the Egyptian authorities impound the ship and hold it at anchor until an inquiry and costs are sorted out ? ⚓️

A simple and informative video on how the maritime shipping industry works. One good thing from these events is learning about the the stuff we all, or at least I, took for granted.

Such a complicated industry, I spent a few years in it back in the day and I was really glad to get out of it. Hercule Poirot himself couldn't find the owners of some of these ships floating about on our oceans........

So there is no longer a ship blocking the Suez passage. There must be a hell of a celebration party going on aboard each of those delayed ships.

Another very good one is www.equasis.orgYou have to make an account but once thats done ( literally a 2 minute job) you can get a full rundown/history of the vessel, who owns it, its P& I status, its manning status, the commercial owners etc. The actual owners since May 2018, are Luster Maritime/Hikagi Sangyo based in Japan www.equasis.org/EquasisWeb/restricted/ShipInfo?fs=Search

The Ever Given is now effectively being held hostage in the Great Bitter Lake, midway through the Canal, by the authorities, as a row develops over who pays for the release operation.
"The huge container ship that blocked the Suez Canal for almost a week last month is being held by Egyptian authorities as they seek compensation of more than $900m from its owners.
An Egyptian court this week ordered that the Ever Given should be seized as talks continued between the Suez Canal Authority that operates the waterway and the vessel’s Japanese owner and its insurers over who pays for losses resulting from the blockage. "
