Linked with Germinal Beerschot m.nieuwsblad.be/cnt/dmf20240129_97095574The Englishman D'Margio Wright-Philips should be the next winter transfer. Technical director Gyorgy Csepregi continues to search for interesting profiles. D'Margio Wright-Philips is the next player on the radar. Stoke City's 22-year-old wing attacker is the son of Shaun Wright-Philips Grandson D'Margio is a youth product from Manchester City, but was allowed to leave there for free three years ago. He chose second division Stoke City. In the Championship he played 17 games in the past two seasons in which he scored twice. This season he played for the first team for less than a minute. Wright-Philips has a contract with Stoke until the end of the season. It is still unclear whether it is a final transfer or a rental transfer. Played a friendly against them once didn't we? We did mate and their fans were bloody crackers. We also played Westerlo while we were in Belgium and that was a more friendly kind of friendly game.

Yes Westerlo were much more friendly. I think they are more non-league in the great scheme of things. From GB (yes they were crackers) we were walking back and this police van spotted us, they opened there doors, and of course we thought "were in trouble here". Nothing of the sort they offered us a lift back to the train station in the back of the van. If I remember rightly I was based in Antwerp, seems a lifetime ago.

Believe it or not mate Westerlo are in Belgium's top flight but their ground is very much a league two level type ground or non league as I remember it. Yes mate we were in the back of the police vans to Antwerp 😅 Probably crossed paths on that trip without knowing. I think our name preceeded us back then and the GB fans wanted to kill us all. The good old days 😅

I’m amazed Paul Gascoigne didn’t end up at Beerschot at some point.

Glad he’s gone. He was never going to make it here. Three successive managers have overlooked him. Hope he does well in a new environment.

The Beerschot fans were a bit notorious at the time we played them ( think that club folded ) and one of the reasons I think the original venue was changed
Stayed in Brussels .. got a great deal in the Conrad , on arrival they inadvertently put me in a room where the entire floor had been reserved for some celebrity or royalty , never did find out who .. including armed guards when you came out the the lift and security in the corridors .. all giving me and the bell boy carrying my bag the evil eye …
was only in the room a minute and the phone went , reservation manager said she needed to come to see me immediately and under no circumstances to leave the room . She arrived with a butler to pack my stuff up and a whole team of hotel security, explained their mistake ..said she’d show me another room ..been in some nice hotels over the years , but was gob smacked at the quality of the upgrade , so much so she took my silence as not being content with the offer .. not a problem she said and took me to another .. which turned out to be a duplex suite .. best hotel up grade I’ve ever had

You just couldn't see where we were going. Thankfully they dropped us off at the more main train station without a serious incident. I also remember drinking with you and a branch of the N40 came in and ordered about 5 pints of something. The barman explained they didn't do pints. After some mental cogs I think they ordered 10 1/2s! Quite funny at the time.

I got a lift in a police van with a few others ( think including Animal ) though I was staying separate from him , taken a mile or two then dropped by a bus stop in the middle of nowhere to wait for a bus back into town 🙃 (similar tactic used by police in Split ) .. recall because it was a bit iffy at the end a coach was put on to get the women , families with kids out safely.. from a personal point of view wasnt for me as others in greater need , but recall it didn’t go down too well at the time when some took up the places not intended for them

Not sure why that is, thought he was out of contract in June. Think we have an option for another year installed in his contract, so if he is a success there we could have him back. If he doesn't succeed we probably won't trigger the one year option. I really don't know, just a guess.

Players shouldn’t fail of course just because they come from well known footballing stock ..coming from a footballing background the likelihood is that any offspring is more likely to be coached and a football environment from an early age ..in the same way as any other kid who follows their parents footsteps be it teacher ,forces , painter , mechanic ,drug dealer etc.and have early doors opened for them .. but as a club at times we do seem a little more adverse than most to giving such cases an opportunity ..only for them to either fail completely or fall well short of the calibre of player we as a club should be looking for

Simple restrictions would strongly discourage player hoarding. I do think that players should take loans at a young age though (17/18). The National League offers 1-3 month loans. Youngsters can be tasked to learn something new and then come back and have those experiences built on. I think it would take a lot more commitment from clubs with regards to personalized development plans, but I do think it would serve youngsters better in the absence of reserve team football.
