If Lampard’s a good manager, why wouldn’t he get another chance? He’ll have to prove himself somewhere else, that’s all. I agree it was a bizarre appointment in the first place. It sounds like they’ve taken the action they have because he was losing the dressing room. You just knew it was going to end in tears Rob. Not quite as cringe worthy as the Giggs at United saga but not a million miles off. Lampard still needs to properly prove himself in the lower leagues for me - be it the Championship or elsewhere. Name one manager to prove themselves in the lower leagues who have got a job like Chelsea?

Looking back on the appointment it does seem quite a tall order to put him up against Klopp and Pep etc and not give him time
Finished well last season. Cup final. But a lot of money was spent by the transfer team. I don’t think he did that badly. They’re not a million miles off the top 4 - only 5 points behind Liverpool
He was given the job, then the club sold the best player (Hazard) and he was handed a transfer embargo. Then he got them CL football and a cup final. This season he’s got a lot of youth / young players and loads of proven new players and hasn’t had very long to make it work. He’s got every right to be a bit aggrieved I think.
He also had Willian sold on who he used a lot last year.
The transfer team have brought in a load of new players and none of them (apart from Mendy) have settled. He’s having to rely on players like Giroud and Aspilacuileta (sp?) who aren’t up to it anymore. Seems a shame that a young English manager (even a club legend) isn’t immune to a blip in form at Chelsea. United stuck with OGS but Chelsea wouldn’t have.
I don’t think he leaves in shame. It’s not like Pearce at Forest / Eddie Gray at Leeds.

Name one manager to prove themselves in the lower leagues who have got a job like Chelsea? Like someone who did well at Swansea getting the Liverpool job you mean? Or someone whose efforts at Preston got him the Everton job, which subsequently got him the Manchester United job? Or a manager winning the FA Cup and doing well over the course of a career until he got the Spurs job?

Mason Mount dislikes this. So does Gareth Southgate, will he still be in starting 11 under next gaffer. He’s a good player.

Being sacked by Chelsea has little impact on your reputation. It's their m.o. and it's proved successful so fair play. Lampard did a great job last season but has had trouble recently getting results with a very expensive squad. They were top though a month and half a go so things can change around. All this he didn't deserve the job is total crap. But its a completely justified point. So we just give managers who do a slightly above average job for average championship teams the Chelsea job? No. He didn't deserve the job and shouldn't have taken it. Clear his bank balance might beg to differ.

Thankfully we don't use the same process, all our fcuk up's are down to the managers. Some are e.g Afobe,Woods ,Rowett/Phillips decisions Some are down to NOT following the process, e.g. process brought up multiple reasons not to sign Berahino but Hughes got his way Hughes signings were very good until he had some money to spend. Not really sure there are many obvious signings we made that weren't down to the manager Bauer maybe/maybe not. Etebo for sure. Whereas at Chelsea it's abundantly clear the manager has multiple signings foistered upon him. If the process allows successive managers to waste £190m of the companies money it’s flawed and so are those that run it whichever way you call it .

If you were a Stoke City legend and was managing at say Burton you had just started your career and Stoke came calling for you and said we want you. Your not telling me you would turn it down.

The same process that produces these useless managers, the board owns the process however it is always the managers that end up carrying the can, the board including teflon Tony have to take responsibility for these failures and the position we are now in, however some try to spin it on here this mess lies firmly at their door.

I’m not sure but let’s start with the basics If we pay someone 800k a year to oversee it ,it Shouldn’t invest over £100m that loses all its value and in the process costs us about £300m in revenue .

Right, and what kind of model would you like to see us adopt to achieve that? At this point, you're like Mr Burns, still yelling at that baseball player to shave off his sideburns long after he's shaved himself completely bald.

The press often referred to him as 'ex banker Sarri'. The implication being if you've spent any of your life committed to something that isn't football you're a fraud. In reality the opposite could be true. The aura surrounding Sarri was emblematic of the closed rigid outlook* of the English game. Coincidentally, Lampard was at the centre of one of the glaring deficiencies of English football. * It's improving a bit now though.
