One of our best players last year - like a few of our players who go out on a long-term injury - he has not come back the same player. Hope he does not end up on the Bojan, Butland pile - he has shown one or two glimpses but, on the whole, has really struggled to keep up with the pace of the game since his return. This is where l stand too on the Joe Allen 'question'. It's unfair to judge him on what we've seen of him this season - both he and Clucas have come back from serious injury well off the pace, unable to reproduce their previous form. But we shouldn't use that to cloud the fact that in the months leading up to March 2020, when the team was playing well, Joe was an important part of that. How do the knockers explain that? I think the manager was notably gutted when he picked up his long-term injury. The form of Clucas, Campbell, Powell and Allen played a big part in keeping us up last year. Football is all about opinions and every player will have their doubters but for me he is one of the few players we have with genuine quality.
