The tragic loss of Diego Maradona today set me thinking.
My top 5 footballers of all time are as follows (in order):
1. Pele 2. Maradona 3. Messi 4. Best 5. Cruyff
Guess it depends how old you are (already been reproached by my 23yo sonfir leaving Ronaldo out (not the fat bastard version 😂)

Are these lists possible? Would it not be better to say who were the best 5 players over each of the last five decades? Football changes so much, so quickly. Who knows if Messi could have dealt with football in the 80s or it Cruyff could have done it now?
I’d also like to add that the post should be ‘best creative footballer’ of all time. Who was better, Maldini, Best or Banks?

1 Maradona 2 Messi 3 Garrincha 4 Original Ronaldo 5 Stein The little wren a great footballer It's a bit of a cheat really cos he's well before my time and there's so little decent footage of him playing I can't really judge it myself. But I read a book about the history of Brazilian football a few years ago and was so captivated by the description and his story I always put him in. A good number of older Brazilians rate him ahead of Pele.
