I’d still go 4231 because I think the formation we played tonight is too negative for a home game.
But within the realms of that formation this is what I would pick.
Davies
Smith Collins Souttar Indi Tymon
Mikel Clucas Powell
Campbell Fletcher

I’d swap brown and vokes for Campbell and fletcher but the rest is bang on IMO I thought Campbell was a little wasteful/tired tonight, and it would be harsh on Vokes who got his goal and played well. Although it's a good sign that I'd be fairly happy with either 👍🏻

Davies Smith Collins Souts BMI Tymon TOB Mikel Clucas Campbell Brown
I'd like see us play Campbell and Brown up top. Thompson will soon be in that midfield 3.

Ideally Tymon for Maclean but he looked knackered late on

We're getting into the territory where a lot of them are interchangeable and the most important part is the manager picking the right system over who he actually picks.
Tonight proved that the wingback system is only really viable with two mobile, attacking players in both slots.

He will keep rotating until the international break in my view. Keep them hungry and gradually settle to a EFL starting XI based on the first 10 games.

He's done an unbelievable job to get 2 different sides fighting for the starting 11 as quickly as he has. And he's handled the younger players incredibly well too.

I think Clucas should be looking over his shoulder.
I prefer us with Campbell in the team every time.
Davies Tymon Souttar Collins Mikel Campbell
should all start whatever.
Build the the team around these.

Yeah Clucas has started the season in pretty terrible form.
Powell is only showing it in flashes.
Im starting to like TOB a lot to be honest.
All the senior players will be looking over their shoulders at the moment. I cant say anyone is GUARANTEED a start apart from Adam Davies.
Thats a good place to be for MON probably.
Whats happened to Ince and McClean as well? Plus we have Allen and Verlinden still to come back

Without his movement, bursts of pace and connecting play we wouldn't have been the same team imo. He pulls defenders around much more so than other forwards because of his quick movement, draws fouls out of defenders. A lot of contribution.

Rested tonight were Chester, Batth, Fox, McClean, Clucas and Gregory, whilst Fletcher, TOB and Smith only had sub outings.
If MON is true to his current thinking on rotation, most of those will play on Sunday, ahead of the international break.
I am not saying I agree, but he may well go with something like:
Davies
Chester Batth Fox
Smith TOB Thompson Clucas McClean
Gregory Fletcher
I'd go for what I think may be our best team right now (fairly close to tonight), certainly at home where the onus is on us to take the game to them:
Davies
Collins Souttar Bruno
Smith Mikel Clucas Tymon
Powell Fletcher Campbell

I'd be happy to give Brown another go on the right of the four, for Thompson to keep his spot ahead of Clucas and the only change to be Fletcher for Vokes.
343 again from the off, it's the most balanced and most fluid, I've seen us all season.

I can see the logic, but that would be tough on Smith, who has been our best player for me so far this season., and can get forward in a way that Fox simply cannot on the left. I'd leave Brown to come on as fresh legs for Campbell after an hour or so.

Yes, the manager has proven his back three system can look balanced, but not how he has used it up to tonight. Key is pace in the wing back positions and NOT Powell in midfield. Pretty much what most people were saying from day one!

Davies Collins Souttar Indi Smith Mikel/Clucas Clucas/Thompson McClean/Tymon Campbell/Brown Fletcher Powell
Subs: Vokes, TOB, Brown/Campbell
Useful having 343 as the base - Powell is in the right areas for offensive work (inside forward, floating in and linking up play) but also can drop deeper if needs be

Davies Smith Collins Souttar Tymon Mikel Clucas Campbell Powell Mcclean Fletcher Realistically: Davies Collins Souttar Indi Smith Mikel Clucas Tymon Powell Campbell Fletcher I don't think it's realistic that he will drop Chester in the league, because he's O'Neill's signing. I'd like tonight's three superheroes to continue, but if we are talking realistically, and bearing in mind what he said about Collins in his pre match presser then I think Collins will be rested. He may even balk at playing Souttar 3 times in 7 days, so Batth could be reinstated. Even Bruno could be dropped for Fox, for the same reasons as Chester. The prospects for Tymon should be better, because he didn't start at the weekend, on the other hand he ran so much that he could be challenged to make a start again. Plus he's up against McClean, although James has to his credit stated that Tymon is the better wingback.
