If his legs have gone then yes don't sign him and I have no knowledge either way to make a judgement- but that still doesn't make him a journeyman. Clearly his legs haven't gone, as he was a massive part of why Trabzonspor were top of the league at the time he left. It's no coincidence they fell away after that. Honestly if we do have a chance to sign a player of his calibre and experience, we should welcome him with open arms. Cousins would be an effective deputy. Interesting that Mikel has shared a pitch with Badou when he was on loan with them. I wonder if Mikel will be giving Badou a call to ask what life at Stoke is like! What would Badou know about life at Stoke at present is? For one thing he doesn't know the wave of optimism that O'Neill has brought.

At 33 no way , see fletcher , ward , Owen etc Of those players you mentioned, Fletcher and Owen had suffered known injury problems and Ward was clearly too old to be a LB in the Championship. Defensive Midfield is a position you can still perform well in up to 35 years-old, as it's more about an ability to read the game. And Mikel does not have any injury problems I'm aware of. Like Fox, he'd represent tremendous value.

Not many complaining re Shawcross' age. Guess how old he is in a few weeks? hes here were not signing him But Ryan is another 33 year old taking up a squad place and expecting to play AND we are all aware of his physical limitations. Providing health and physical condition are NOT problems then taking on someone only 6 months older than Ryan who is not beset with physical problems could make sense. MON isn't daft enough to put the team at risk by signing off on something he doesn't believe in.

I read several reports that stated Middlesbrough had released him after they chose not to offer him an extension to his contract. H

Its nothing more than an UBERWANK signing if it happens.
He was a good player in his day. But it makes me wonder about MON's skills in the market.
Pulis used to love signing an old Pro with a big name. (remember Gudjohnsen, Owen, amongst others).
These signings can work on occasion, but mainly they turn out to be completely useless. Plus we have Ndiaye and Etebo on the books. Its not like we dont have quality midfielders. But fuck it lets sign a big name from a decade ago.

Guess how old he is in a few weeks? hes here were not signing him Strangely am aware of that We have someone calling Mikel an OAP who had Shawcross in his starting 11 for next season Obviously neither would play every week but is a hell of a long season. We're crying out for a bit of a wise head in front of our back 4 away from home

If there’s one thing the fifa game has taught me, it would be that at least 50% of the reason for signing these players would be to increase publicity and shirt revenue (chaching ching)

In isolation he's not an awful signing. Experienced holding midfielder and if he's still got his legs, then he'll be alright.
But it's got a few alarm bells ringing.
Chester 31 Mikel 33 Brunt 36
Linked with a few more golden average oldies along the way as well. I don't think we've learned from our mistakes.
I'll hold judgement until we're a significant way through next season but it seems to be the same old failed process again. And it'll get us nowhere.
