Jimmy Greenhoff drove home a late winner in a 1-0 victory in a League Cup tie v Man City at the Vic It was in front of the Boothen and 39,000 fans in a night match. Never seen scenes of delirium quite like it. I swear I saw the goal again on Sportsnight when I got home that night but I've never seen any video footage since ? I reckon it was midweek sports special on itv. Pedantic moi? 😁 That's second rate pedantry Joe. - Jimmy scored at the Stoke End- now that's pedantry!

Another would be Graham Shaw on his debut V Huddersfield. All three of those definitely. Another Stainrodder, his diving header to beat Birmingham away. Keith Bertschin at WBA. The consolation goal when he went mental. One goal I've never seen is Tony Ellis in the 1-0 win at Boro. New Year's Day was I think in the Alan Ball relegation season. Fluke off his knee apparently.

So you decided not to watch it based on the squad or fact we were 1-0 down? Would you have been bothered if we won and you missed it, there's always a chance as you know anything can happen in football. Like I said it's not a critism, I just find it surprising anyone could not want to watch it. I find it hard enough to not watch / listen to a normal fixture let alone one of that size. I turned down the chance of going Cardiff for the play off semi final as was in such a huff after the first leg.😩 I made the same mistake and so did thousands of others. Think only 700 bothered to turn up. I was just so dejected after losing the first leg and the memory of all the other play off defeats. They were huge favourites with an expensively assembled squad that was clearly better than ours and they'd won something daft like 12 games in a row including the first leg. There just wasn't a hope in hell that we could turn it around and I wasn't going to waste the money and hassle of getting to Cardiff on a Tuesday night to see us get brushed aside 3-0 and have to endure that miserable long journey home. I almost gave the big screen a miss I was so pissed off! As for the subject of the thread, a wonder goal by Richard Forsyth against Wolves in November of the doomed 97/98 season. It was a dreadful season but we started it well and that 3-0 win took us 5th if I remember rightly. It was a fantastic 30 yarder into the top corner and I've never seen it since. That was the high point of the season and we collapsed after that match.

they both exist somewhere... You tease... I thought I'd found the Beeston 1989 one on Newcastle's season review video for a minute, but they skipped the highlights for that game I'm sure I've seen it somewhere, although could be thinking of a photo in the Sentinel from not so long ago.

67/68 season? No proper centre forward and around Easter '68 Peter Dobing scores hat-trick versus Leeds, quite stunning goals as I recall. Several heart in mouth moments as a youngster on the wing for Leeds puts in some tremendous shots just wide - thought he was a good prospect (we bought him 14 months later - Jimmy Greenhoff). Stoke held on to beat Leeds 3-2 to help our relegation battle and dent Leeds title bid.

I was going to say this one and you beat me to it. I was stood on the Boothen aged 10 and I thought it was a long range header at the Stoke End. Definitely on Sportsnight, I rushed home to watch it cos the TV cameras were there, but where's the footage?? The 0-0 draw home to Sunderland in the next round is available of course!

Not a Stoke goal,but a goal against us,Gordon Strachan's controversial effort from '89.
Remember watching it from the Boothen Paddock, strange how the memory plays tricks but I falsely recall the ball taking a lower trajectory.
Shifty b*stard that Strachan....

At halftime Mick specifically told them to prepare quicker defending set pieces. And what happened? The gormlessness continued and it was two points down the shithole. But we ignored the glaring mistake and blamed the referee. Brenmner (I think) scored with a similar one in 1974.

Trying to remember who scored this one, but for the life of me I can't.
Would have been probably late 70's or early 80's. At home, attacking the Boothen End in the second half, our left-footed left winger (overlapping full back???) had been bombing forward down the line all game, swinging crosses in. He kept crossing earlier and earlier, to the point where he was crossing almost as soon as he'd gone over the half way line.
And their keeper kept coming out further & further and catching them. To the point where he was catching the ball almost at the edge of the area and way beyond the far post.
Must have happened 15 times or more.
Sat bang on the half way line, I shouted "why don't you shoot instead of crossing?"
Lo and behold, next run he did his man and hit the same ball but this time with the outside of his foot. Keeper came way out to catch it as curled into him as usual. But it then curled the other way and whooshed into the net. Our chap turned and pointed at me. Pandemonium, I almost went over the rail, I was jumping about so much.
Durban??? said in his program notes the following home match that it was a fluke. But it was clear our chap had hit it with the outside of his boot and had fully intended it.
Was it Loek Ursem maybe????
Can't even remember the opposition.
