See he now plies his trade at all conquering Bologna with yet another signing on fee He’s a mercenary some see it some still believe his ambition bollocks God forbid he moves around to make money 😂 Loyalty in football is largely dead. I’ve no problem with that at all mate I’m just prodding on the daft fuckers on here who still hold on to the fact he left Stoke because of ambition

Would have been interesting to see what he could have achieved with the current West Ham set up - might have had a medal or two to show for his career as well as a bulging bank account.

Came to Stoke for peanuts.
Thrilled us with his mercurial talent.
Surprised us if ever he lost the ball, by going into overdrive to try and win it back.
Massively improved his shooting and goal scoring output.
Left for our all time record transfer fee received.
Any badmouthing him now is just sour grapes.

I seem to remember Ric was often in trouble for his timekeeping, and he was often derided for being ‘lazy’. Funny how peoples memories fade about the less attractive parts of players’ characters! A lot of creative players have flawed characters, but wouldn’t it be a boring game without them! Best to learn to accept them for what they are and enjoy the ride!

Though he may well have seen the writing on the wall for Stoke (or not) if West Ham weren’t offering a pay increase etc he wouldn’t have left for them. I loved him when he turned up for us and the fire in his belly translated to tearing up the opposition rather than throwing a tantrum.

The timekeeping was a problem for his managers to deal with, it didn't affect him on the pitch.

I go to bed most nights dreaming of that goal against Man United. Loved it, loved him.
Like Alan Hudson - once in a generation player.

There's too many moments where he stood above the rest. I have absolutely no issues with Marko. It's a shame about the hammer pose during the game with West Ham but we taunted him all game. It was all a bit pathetic.

Excellent player, loved him while he was here. Complete bellend of a human being. Great summing up that is & my thoughts exactly. Can honestly say for skill, ability, confidence & showmanship Arnie was one of my favourite and best players I've seen wear a Stoke shirt. Even his edginess & arrogance made him the maverick we at the time needed to move us onto the next level. Marko was the last player I can genuinely really recall feeling absolutely gutted at when he left us. I was annoyed with his antics whilst at West Ham & hated seeing him be someone elses show pony (especially when he did it against us) but as times gone on, taking his motives or antics away, I can quite happily say he was one of Stoke marquee signings and he did generally make us a better & more attractive team. Used to love the way he could take down a cross field high pass & then go on to torment an opposing full back, was poetry in motion. Just seeing that montage of him shows what we had & what we so dearly missed when he left. I've said before & I'll say again, I honestly think if Arnie had stayed with us & not gone to West Ham when he did, we'd of stayed up the year we got relegated & West Ham would of replaced us in the bottom 3 places!

His antics when he returned I don’t give a fuck about …fair play to him for a bit of theatre and he was indeed a fantastic footballer
His antics in trying ( and succeeding) in his attempts to secure a move from us ( and the same at West Ham ) showed him up for what he is
And many daft fuckers on here believed his ambition bollocks

I personally don't care what he's like its on the pitch that counts and for that alone he was an awesome signing.

He could have played for a real top club. As for loyalty, players in general have always moved for money, including a famous player of our own. He was excellent for West Ham for a spell.

Thread resurrected from the stone ages - why? Signed 8 years ago today Surely that merits a new thread, not resurrecting one from the Norman conquest? It's an irrational bugbear I've developed about a change that has slowly crept in. I've no idea why it makes me so grumpy. P.S. Arnie and Fuller are the only two players in competition for the best attacking player of the last 40 years. All of the other candidates - Bojan, Etherington, Pennant, Moses - aren't even on the same planet.
