Ginola Newcastle in the 90s at the vic. Probably the first opposing player I saw get a standing ovation from Stoke fans( I think). He was brilliant . He got dogs abuse! Ludicrous dive to get Clarkson sent off, utterly classless. He was clearly bemused by the wroth of the Stoke fans for the rest of the game and couldn't wait to get off the pitch. Peter Beardsley on the other hand was a class act, he got applauded by the Stoke fans That was before all the trouble with the foreign lads.

Anyone remember our first season in division 3,1990/91 a home game against Shrewsbury Town.We lost 1-3 and a certain Tony "Zico" Kelly ran the show.He was class on the pitch and also with Stoke fans in the Boothen, during a break in play due to a injury he was about to take a corner but during the stoppage he was chatting to the fans in the bottom corner of Boothen.Remember leaving the ground and everyone were saying the same thing, wish he still played for us.

When Everton won the title, Alan Ball and Howard Kendall were absolutely superb against us. That Everton midfield of Kendall, Ball and Colin Harvey was the best I've ever seen. I remember going away to Everton in the 70's and they dismantled a good Stoke team, Harvey particularly was sensational.

I recall Southampton visiting the Vic in the 1970's. The had a cracking strike force of Martin Chivers and Ron Davies. They must have had 20 goal attempts between them only to be faced with a superb performance by Gordon Banks. They game finished 0-0 I think.

1976 away to Sheffield Utd The Messiah, Alan Hudson was in the form of his life and we were challenging near the top of the table. Along come Tony Currie, he took the piss and won 3-0, One of the best midfield performances I’ve ever seen.

Danny Murphy back in 2010 when defender Chris Baird scored 2 in the first 10 minutes. Hate the ba***rd but totally controlled the game that day.

Andy Liddell was a player who always seemed to shine against us. Popped up with a few clubs against us and always had a great game. I wished we would sign him do we didn't have to come up against him every season. Wigan and Oldham and was he at Rotherham? Was a midfielder for Oldham with long real greasy hair who was a problem. Think he scored when Cranson went in goal and bossed that game. Real tidy player. Steve Agnew deserves a mention also

Trevor Francis for Forest at the Victoria Ground in a midweek cup match. I was in the Butler Street stand with my dad, and he absolutely skinned our left mid, left back, got the ball in the box and they scored and won 0:1.
It honestly felt like a new era for football, even back then. Slight, athletic players with a great touch and speed. I was gutted they scored but the memory of Francis' runs stayed with me, still do.

Andy Johnson for Palace (I think) in the Championship. Clearly a Premier League quality player, tore us a new one. Probably around the same time that David Connolly did the same for Wimbledon against us. Both far too good for the league.
After promotion to the Prem quite a few players looked world class against our midfield. Bullard for Wigan, Lampard for Chelsea and fucking Giovanni for Hull. One player that had a huge reputation at the time that didn't look good against our midfield though was Gareth Barry for Villa.

In the Premier League, Lampard is perhaps the one consistent player who when I watched us against Chelsea was leagues above us in terms of midfield game management.

We were minutes away from signing Johnson albeit on loan from Birmingham but fell through the last minute on a Friday due to them having injury problems. He went on to score a hatful for them in the following weeks.

don't know if already mentioned but mickey Ginn for Coventry in Fa cup, brilliant I watched Regis really closely that day,and it wasn’t what he did with the ball that was devastating but what he did off it. His presence and quick thinking pulled our back line all over the place which allowed the space for Ginn and others to run into... the man was living art you could watch him all day

Francis was the first of a new wave of players whose transfer fee was a million pounds and more, such as Justin Fashanu. But I've always felt that Francis was the only player of that era who was actually worth a million.

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned Jason Roberts terrorising our back four in a 4 - 1 mauling at home to Bristol Rovers in the early noughties.
Andy Johnson did a similar job for Palace in 3 - 1 home defeat to Palace, one cold Monday night at The Brit.

Manuel Fernandes. Super, super midfielder. Beat me to it We were linked with him a couple of years afterwards as well. Lots of names here I'd agree with. A very recent one that I was impressed with Dan James when we played Swansea at their place. Not delivered that much at Man Ure yet mind.

I remember us making that Gypo winger from Barnsley look like Maradona a couple of times. curry was it? One of my the best I have seen at the Brit was Stylian Petrov for Villa, think the game was second season it the prem, but he was fantastic. I also agree with the Drogba and Suarez, And would add Kevin De Bruyne David Currie I think. 3-0 nil down at half time and Currie was everywhere. FA Cup 3rd round I think. Finished 3-3. Great game, then lost the replay 1-0. Massive anticlimax!

I guess it was because they both had the initials MC. I am sure though it it wasn't Martin Carruthers.

David Silva was brilliant when Man City hammered us at home in our relegation season. He scored 2 and made 2 if l recall we couldn’t get near him. I remember applauding him when Pep substituted him near the end.
