Well, he showed more bravery in the terraces last night than our bunch of pansies have on the pitch for a long time 😀

Full respect. I'd rather that than a bunch of no marks running around cupping their ears from the relative safety of the pitch.
Good lad.

A personal (almost) tale about Dier. About four years ago, not long after he had joined Spurs; a mate of mine took his two young boys to Spurs training ground to see if they could get a few autographs. The waited outside by the gate for the players to leave. As the cars came out, only two drove on without stopping, all the others stopped and had a word and/or signed. Only two players pulled up and got out of there cars; one was Dier. He spoke and joked with the boys, and when one of them mentioned his goal he had scored on his debut against West Ham a few months previously. He opened the boot of his car and pulled out a dirty boot and said, “this is the boot I scored the goal with”, he signed it and gave it to the boy. By the way, the other player who got out of his car to have chat and sign things was Harry Kane.

I have no problem with players giving it back within reason. An idiot behind us last season would turn up drunk and spend the whole game shouting abuse at McClean until someone had enough of him and he was never seen in that seat again. Fans are entitled to their opinion but don't complain if you get it back. Would you shout vile abuse to someone in the street or say it to say McClean's face? Of course not. I remember Richard Littlejohn doing 606, like him or not he had Liverpool fans calling up in droves when Beckham made a gesture at them after a game, like he said, you spent 90 minutes abusing his wife then complain to the police and in the radio about him retaliating. Who on here would stand for their wife or girlfriend receiving that kind of abuse, footballer or not? I get is terrace banter etc and we've done it to Gerrard, Robinho but if you dish it out etc. Nothing but respect for Dier, that fella couldn't get to the exit quick enough when he saw him coming

This shows that some players are still human imho. Fair play to him sticking up for his brother, when he knew a load of fannys would video it and cry about it.

I suppose you could say that players whining and remonstrating on the pitch when they’re getting grief for being abject is much the same too

Thanks (or no thanks) to the anonymity of the internet that's a lot harder to spot, so isn't really the same is it? Players are constant and here we have a player who is well known in public and has gone straight into the crowd to front someone up directly. Man to man. The players who cupped their ears did it to the entire crowd, pretty much most of whom have never uttered a word in angst against them. One player in particular had previously publicly praised the fans he turned on. It's actually nothing like the same.

Are we missing the bit where the fan was having a go at his family and how would Dier know this was the case from that distance? I have no problem with Dier standing up for himself or his family but we’re having to make some assumptions on what’s being shown.

What would you have done, wrote him a letter and said please don't do it again? A leaflet campaign perhaps ? Nothing and moaned on line about it afterwards ? He didn't attack anyone or throw a punch just went to help out a family member getting abuse from some coward.
