People need to calm down and let him recover properly, he needs a few more games like tonight before he's even considered for the first team, there's no reason to take a risk with him.

Defensive mix up and some want Ryan back...

I'm certainly not advocating that Ryan should be in the starting 11 for Saturday's game or even on the bench for a few weeks yet based on this news alone but it's just nice to know he's back training & appears to have had a unscathed outing in an u23 squad match in the Staffs Cup.
At the end of the day, Ryan, the physios & medics & management staff will know exactly where he is on his comeback trail and road to recovery & I'm sure they've got it all In hand. It's not like we're crying out for centre back cover at the moment due to injuries and suspensions so I'm sure he'll be eased back in when everyone see's fit & likely after a couple more u23 type fixtures. If we see him at any point prior to or during Christmas it would be a real bonus & as good as a new signing for us.
There is always the chance though that he's well ahead of schedule & isnt as far away from a first team recall as we all thought. Usually a player in low key comeback matches from serious injuries only play half a match & are eased back in gently. The fact Ryan's managed to complete 90mins on a pitch that is slightly better than the average Sunday League pitch (that only passed a late pitch inspection Tues afternoon!), in Coven on a chilly autumnal evening against a team that are step 6 in the non league pyramid is encouraging & positive news in equal measure.
Well Done Ryan & the SCFC medical team

A 3 month turnaround for a broken leg is fantastic work from physios and doctors to player himself. Fuck me!! Seems waaay longer than 3 months for some reason It's almost 4 months, he broke his leg on the 27th July

The 'defensive mix up' was the gk dropping the ball so no blame to Shawcross who it sounds as if did a lot of organising which is what we've been missing. Saturday may be too soon but won't be surprised to see him over the next couple of weeks.

I'm just pleased for him, and us, that he is back playing. I hope he continues his recovery and is back in first team contention soon...but only when ready.
His presence in the squad will be a big boost to all concerned

Can’t hurt having him back in the dressing room. On the pitch he looked done but seemed to have a resurgence. Whether he will need more rehabilitation and matches to get sharp could be an issue but I’m hoping he is reintroduced in a sensible manner.

Just looked up that Shawcross is fast approaching 400 appearances for Stoke. With his length of service & dedication to Stoke & the fact he's seen some big highs mixed in with a few lows is Ryan our present day Denis Smith?
I'm too young to have seen Denis play so cant compare the two directly as players but the fact both have spent the vast majority of their careers at Stoke & have very much made it their home, both being centre backs & both going through the pain barrier on numerous times for the club at spells during their time here are we close to seeing & accepting Ryan in the same level of awe as Denis is today by fans who both did & didnt see him? & whilst Ryan hasnt won a trophy at Stoke he did captain us to an FA Cup Final, throughout a satisfactory European campaign & was an instrumental part of our Promotion push.
The write up on the match last night & the comments by Wade Elliot are suggesting that Ryan stepped up & offered to play last night by his own choice & that he wanted to throw himself into the u23 set up in an unpredictable match in unknown surroundings to get that next phase of his recovery completed. I'm guessing the vast majority would of been more than happy to wait for a behind closed doors match on a familiar & tidy pitch at Clayton Wood.
Definitely think Ryan is a player that's been easy to take for granted over his time with us as he's been such a regular feature but when people step back & look at his career he's been a great & sometimes under appreciated/valued servant to SCFC.

Give him time and don’t rush him. It’s not so much the injury he’s coming back from, but more at his age all the associated strains and pulls where he has been out of action which tends to impact more. Nice and steady and if that means we don’t see him until the new year then so be it.....we may need him more as the season starts to thin out.

Tremendous news to have Ryan back. Whether it takes time for him to get back into the team or not, his presence in the dressing room & on the training pitch is a massive boost for us.

Far too early.
Be better to have ruled him out for the season with view to a return next season where he can spearhead our promotion push back to the Championship.

It does seem quick but all the surgeons, physios, training staff will know. These guys won’t just push out a player after an injury like Ryan’s without using their knowledge and experience.
