Not actually what he's saying though is it? He, like many others I assume, believe people in more skilled professions should be getting paid more than flipping burgers. Sure, a pay rise and better working conditions, but not £15 an hour. It's a bit rich and very easy to say coming from a lump of a footballer on several thousand quid a week isn't it? Is there any particular reason it couldn’t just be the low pay of nurses that he’s referring to as embarrassing?

No it's not clear. He was making a comment about nurses. A factually incorrect one as well. It doesn't seem to me like he feels nurses should definitely be paid more either, just that the 'burger flippers' as he no doubt calls them should earn less. You require qualifications and a special passion to work as a nurse so yes fast food workers should earn less than them. The nurses should earn more than fast food workers because it’s a career that requires a higher degree of skill and therefore they deserve to be paid more than a profession that does not. Many go to university or further education in order to get that job and should therefore be paid more than someone who comes into a job without that level of sacrifice and dedication.

It's clear like you dodgepot that he considers fast food workers beneath him. Not actually what he's saying though is it? He, like many others I assume, believe people in more skilled professions should be getting paid more than flipping burgers. Sure, a pay rise and better working conditions, but not £15 an hour. To be fair Maccy's are a large employer, the roles are pretty basic I presume they are on NMW like thousands of others working in low skilled jobs, why should they in particular deserve more than comparable employees in basi roles ?, many of these stores are franchised and not run directly by MC Donalds any way.

Of course nurses should be paid more money, it's only the austerity obsessed Tories who think otherwise. Their pay has nothing to do with McDonalds staff remuneration though unless you're intent on making a pretty grubby point.

McDonald's are a classic target for Lefties. American roots, the brand of Capitalism, Global, big profits etc, etc. I'm only surprised that the vegan squad and XR aren't on the picket line as well. Killing cows and producing litter and all that.

Is there something in the water in the potteries? Are people actually saying that the price of a burger will go up if the staff are paid £15 ffs get real McShit are one of the richest companies in the world. They have just sacked their chief executive and handed him £29million. And people are moaning about a worker getting £15 and hour.Take a good look at yourselves and hang you head in shame.Maybe some one who isnt getting £15 an hour is jealous and needs to keep their self importance. Paying poverty wages to McDonald's employees shouldn't be justified by saying "Yeah but nurses are underpaid." Fair wages for everyone. If I can afford to pay my staff more than McDonalds I would say something is wrong wouldn't you.

Most of the UK McDonalds are franchises so what the chief executive gets paid is irrelevant but you want small business owners like yourself to pay £15 an hour do you pay £15 an hour to everyone or are you a true socialist

I don't see many people making a career out of it and the managers there will of course be paid more than minimum wage. I agree that the price of burgers wouldn't go up. You'd just have less staff and longer wait times.

Just a quickie you need at least £100000-£150000 to have a UK McShit franchise

I don’t see what’s so hard to understand about the damage that a high minimum wages can do to an economy and jobs. If it doesn’t do any damage why not demand 30 an hour Instead of 15 ?
Also worth remembering McDonald’s has a fiduciary responsibility to act in its shareholders best interests.

So Harry Souter is a fucking prick then. Always nice to know I suppose. Why is he a "fucking prick" for pointing out that £31,000 a year is unrealistic for a fast food worker. They’d be paid more than highly trained junior rates on a nuclear submarine.

Not sure I read it as that. I read from it that he thinks nurses are not paid enough and is using this as an example of just how much they are being shafted. In any case, footballers that receive ridiculous amounts of money shouldn't be getting involved in these kinds of discussions.

I know someone that works part time for them and has a good full time job besides. When I asked the question of why he continued at McDonalds which I knew had started as a student job he said it was simply because the medical benefits scheme they offered was too good to lose. McDonalds looking after their employees well well well.
