Well, you do keep saying this and sadly, you're probably correct. Is this because he wouldn't or because of the 'burned bridges' of the past? If it's the latter, for the sake of the Club that should be forgotten. We are a big story, like Sunderalnd of how when it goes wrong, it goes spectacularly wrong. TP can't be blamed for the cookie last few years that have unfolded in front of us and left us at the bottom of the pit. It's just MY opinion, BUT I would wipe the slate clean and go hell for leather to get him in. He has, whether people like it or not, an affinity with this Club. He helped create some of the best moments in our modern history. I truely believe he would be the one to restore this. Now, that would ALSO be a story! TP is the nuclear option and we're flying over the Hiroshima of relegation It'll be nasty, unpleasant and very probably a war crime, but he will get the job done

If that's the case it'd better be the one that KNOWS the Club and respects the Chairman and supporters if nothing else and isn't afraid to stand up to folk! The notion that TP 'respects supporters' has made me laugh so hard that some piss has come out. Ask anyone who went to Valencia if they think TP respects them and let me know what they say eh? I think these that still think he has any respect for them or the club whatsoever must have closed their eyes and gone "lalala" for each of the 90 minutes he's spent on the touchline when he's returned with other clubs, it's quite incredible. His tactic was sussed long ago and he's too old and stubborn to change it now, he's a narcissistic areshole and they are never wrong.

Don't forget the Binary Season too, engineered by him so that he was given more funds. But let's face it, what's happened in the last three years or so has been so much fun hasn't it and such a rip-roaring success. as I keep saying, everyone has their own opinion on these matters. I wont be an apologist for being in the TP 'return' camp. One person's madness is another person's reality, or maybe both Replacing Jones with Pulis would be like amputating your foot to cure a verruca.

When he went, it was the right time, but it’s now the right time for His Glorious Return.

If they're daft enough to bring in Pardew then we may aswell resign ourselves to lower leagues and possibly worse! Only Pulis for me. At least everyone knows what they're getting, TP included. It'll be spectacular if they dont get this right. there's no room for experiment.

Out of interest.......can anyone actually verify what Jones actually said in this "snippet"?
I haven't heard anything relating to this or seen anything in any media anywhere, nothing even on Radio Stoke's page or twitter about it at all (and you'd have thought the Sentinel would have been all over this as well??)
Just seems a bit weird that only 1 person on here seems to have heard it or be aware of it when it was on Radio Stoke, and a bit extreme that people are now using it to question his mental health, bearing in mind the fact no-one seems to even know the actual words that were used in the first place?

No, davesviews is still a man of mystery, but imo he does have inside knowledge and he said Pulis would not be returning. Views didn’t mention Pardew, that was just my speculation as I doubt the more sought after managers (Hughton, Moyes, et al) would be remotely interested now.

I don’t think so”. taken from the Sentinel but I think he said it in the ranty interview after the Crawley fiasco

The comment he made following the Crawley game is the one I find most damning, “That’s as bad a performance as I’ve had since I’ve been a manager and I include all my time at Luton Town and all my time since I’ve been here,” I interpret it is as saying that despite 30+ games, 9 months in charge, a preseason to bring in his own players, behind the scenes changes, new coaching staff, new training regime the end result is the worst performance he's ever seen. After all that time, money and effort the result is a shambles. He's in effect confirming that no progress whatsoever has been made, quite the reverse in fact, we've regressed. To me that one comment confirms that his appointment has been an abject failure. Thanks for your efforts Nathan but we've reached the end of the road. He's just one hell of a bad loser, who speaks without thinking of the consequences while his blood is still boiling right after a match. It's not exactly a smart thing to do. But his contract stipulates that he must. Perhaps he should sit down for a few minutes with Hart and agree on a few sensible things to say, after all it doesn't take a genius to work out what questions will be asked. But let's not judge him on an unimportant match in the Caraboa. He did choose the worst option available by picking ten players (plus Lindsay) whose motivation was limited after being virtually told before the match that they are second choice (and told after it that they are the new bomb squad); that's as good as asking for trouble, as several other managers found, although it works for others. But he also said in the post match interview that his Brentford selection had played excellently - that's what he said not what I say - so clearly he hasn't given up on anything and he still believes in himself, his ideas, and in James McClean. What more can you ask?

Just heard a snippet on radio stoke from NJ say he dosent know if the players are playing for him. What a naive thing to say, even if they are or aren’t playing for you dint tell the media? Dead man walking? He must know he’s off given those comments? Wow. He’s teetering on the brink now. His mental health must be a concern (paranoia). Just because you’re paranoid, just mean they aren’t out to get you. managing that show shit would drive most people to the nut house. Every manager in the past two years, except Lambert, has ended up as a blabbering idiot. Recall Hughes’s bleating rant just before he was fired “who else can do it [manage the players at Stoke]?”

It’s a difficult situation if potential managers are turning us down As for the players not “ playing for Jones “, if they realise there will be a change of management then they should be doing everything possible to either put themselves in the shop window and / or getting ready to impress whoever replaces Him As professionals they should be giving 100% regardless of any unrest behind the scenes If this is the case, hopefully someone will reinforce the need to get the best possible manager available and a negative response from the players won’t help anyone It would be ideal to move Jones to a post with less responsibility for a few months in, bring in an experienced manager who is prepared to take a role in developing his potential No easy solutions, tough times ahead Very unlikely to happen in the world of professional football other than in the role of assistant manager, how many actually go on to be a manager? Most seem to move when a manager is sacked Only rational, mature adults think that way. We are talking about molly-coddled, spoilt brats who have been told they are special from the age of 10.

My interpretation is that he is hoping for sympathy from the players as he has obviously used up all his other motivational techniques. It’s desperate stuff.
I can’t see how Pulis could return without the removal of Scholes and the humiliation of Coates junior. They instigated the new direction and though Carthorse was sacrificed Scholes knows he will never get a job like this again. He’ll be manically briefing against.

I can see only one face saving solution now, get TP back work with what he’s got and for the Coates family to sell up at the end of the season.
There’s not a cat in hells chance that Old man Coates is going to come out and say that his son has made a right pigs ear of the situation.
Better off they and try and come out with some dignity but expect years of decline as nobody in their right mind is going to pay the asking price given the alleged money owed to them.

Understanding that the main problem area in the team for three years has been the lack of a sitting midfielder, but bringing in Jordan Cousins to solve that problem.

As for the Valencia game he did show respect for the fans in the sense that he kept his best players fully fit for the main job, which was to keep Stoke from getting relegated, and he succeeded in doing that. So the supporters got another season in the sun, albeit not in the Spanish. But ultimately when he thinks of SCFC he only thinks of one man, Peter Coates, not the individual faces in the crowd. He has no idea who they are.

The constant tinkering of players, formations and tactics makes it obvious that he simply doesn't know what to do and can't apply any of his own chosen or preferred remedies to the situation. If we win a couple of games, it'll be because he's stumbled on something from the 'z' list, so can't really be given any credit for it now. I don't mean to sound churlish when I say that. It's not that I wouldn't want to give him credit. It's just how I feel now. He's making it up as he goes along. I don't know if Luton was a fluke, and what a shame for him that anyone should be thinking like that, given the stunning success he achieved there, but either that's the case, or there's something beyond our comprehension going on at the club, that's making a potentially great manager look like an absolute fuckwit. Worryingly, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that it's the latter. I was massively in favour of his appointment. I really wanted a fresh, young, attack-minded manager to reinvigorate the club, and I've clung onto believing in him for longer than most. But right now, I can't see past us having to appoint a very experienced manager to steady the ship. Sad really. Excellent analysis Hard to say, but I would welcome back Tony with open arms compared to this fraud Hughton is a dream too far based on our predicament and we need someone to save us this season - Incredible but true

I'll look that book up and see if it changes my view of him that I've held for around 15 years. I would be amazed if it did to be honest.
