www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-transfer-news-verlinden-3273771Will Nathan Jones still be in charge against Bristol City? (Naomi Davies, Cheshire) Yes. I think so!
You never stick your neck out too far in football, but the wind is blowing in that direction as we speak.
This is not a sacking club, despite evidence to the contrary in recent years, and the owners have invested far too much time, faith and resource into Nathan Jones to ditch him at the first available opportunity.
I’m sure they are hoping this break gives everyone time for a breather and then to go again in a fortnight.
How long will the owners put up with this rubbish, or are they so divided themselves? (Paul, Stoke) There is very little division when it comes to John and Peter Coates, and certainly none publicly.
They will be as keen as one another for project Nathan Jones to succeed and also acutely aware of their (and the club’s) reputation in the wider world if they have to start looking for a fifth manager in less then two years.
Like most, I really wanted Jones to succeed, but his players and his multiple systems are massively failing. Even at this early stage we look doomed, surely he has to go this International break? (Jack Holmes, SoT) You seem to speak for a lot of fans out there Jack.
For reasons given below, I’m not convinced there will be any drastic decisions during this international break.
But we all know these results can’t continue, not least Nathan Jones himself, and you do wonder if he’s now close to being in a game-by-game assessment among the powers-that-be.
How can we continue with a manager who has the worst record, and the worst start to a season in over 150 years? He is out of his depth. (Harry, Trentham) Sadly, Harry, that last phrase of yours will be written above his tombstone if it doesn’t work out.
Fingers crossed we never get to that point.
Can you imagine the further disruption if there was another change, but obviously results will dictate that one.
When will the overdue announcement of Jones sacking take place? (Malcolm, Nottingham)
We don’t think in the next fortnight Malcolm.
Are the board afraid of dismissing NJ because it will shine a light onto their decision making? Chris (Stoke) Yes Chris, that’s definitely a consideration, it’s bound to be, but results will take care of such considerations one way or another.
You depress me Martin with your certainty that he is staying. (Brin, Hull) You’ll thank me one day!!

Didn’t they do one last week though? They did. Their consensus last week was that Jones needed results fast, but he still had full backing of the ownership. We'll see if there have been developments, let's be honest the board aren't going to publicly say 'we think he's toss and we might get rid'. Of course he'll have the 'full backing' of the board.
Be interesting reading though probably.

If Spinksy's line this time last week was informed adn the international break was being signposted as the time for the big call, any kind of cool, sober reflection on things would, you'd think, mean the axe? www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-leeds-jones-job-3251015They are desperate to reach the two-week international break after Saturday's trip to Birmingham so they can take a step back, take stock and assess things with a cool head.
They remain keen to keep Jones after investing so much time and resource into the Welshman, but are equally concerned about a league position, even after only five games, that no-one could have reasonably anticipated.
So Elland Road shouldn't be one last throw of the dice for Jones because it's a cup game and because of that fortnight break looming after the Birmingham game.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-transfer-news-verlinden-3273771Any manager needs to be cool, calm and command respect. NJ has none of that. His tactics and selection policy’s are chaotic. We needed 3 or 4 key signings, and not a scatter gun policy of 10. (Jeremy, Adelaide)The only thing I would say in his defence on the 10 signings is that many out there were calling for a major overhaul and a removal of the bad apples. He has also argued in the last couple of days that with so much uncertainty over who was leaving, because of the late European window, he had to get bodies in before his August 8 deadline. But yes, after a few bad results and having to change his team, you do wonder if there are almost too many options to turn to when he wants to make changes. At the moment he stands accused of going for quantity rather than quality in the summer and needs results quickly to dampen down those accusations.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-transfer-news-verlinden-3273771Is the apparent green light for the loaning of Verlinden a big steer that Jones will be staying..for now? Any non-diamond manager would surely be looking to get him involved regularly with McClean, the only alternative out there in a more standard formation (Steve, Stoke)Yeah, perhaps you can read something into that. He has clearly taken a view on Verlinden and that doesn’t include regular first-team football any day soon here at Stoke. Like most, I really wanted Jones to succeed, but his players and his multiple systems are massively failing. Even at this early stage we look doomed, surely he has to go this International break? www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-transfer-news-verlinden-3273771Why doesn't Campbell start a game as we got no pace up front without him in the side and he is a natural goalscorer? (Dave Cope, Newcastle)Are you really Kevin Campbell, Dave? Rightly or wrongly, Campbell is currently being labelled as an impact player because of his pace, his goalscoring ability and also, sadly, this question mark over his endurance. Some would say give him the first 60 minutes, which he got and largely impressed in at Leeds last Tuesday, or keep him on the bench for the last 10/15 minutes. Either way, how exciting to have a prospect like him at the club’s disposal and you just hope nothing upsets his long-term prospects of remaining here.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-transfer-news-verlinden-3273771You build a team around consistency and a simple message to players, Cloughie and Shankly were perfect examples of this. NJ presents as chaotic in his team selection and tactics. Players are confused and appear unable to know what their role is. He really has to go. Please appoint an experienced calming influence next please? (Emma, Sneyd Green)Do you have anybody in mind when you say an experience, calming influence, Emma? As we’ve already said, poor results and a huge squad can be a fatal combination when it comes to stability and continuity because it’s far too tempting to make the 5/6 changes we have seen recently between matches. Virtually all of those changes have involved experienced players, but you wouldn’t necessarily know it to watch Stoke recently.

Not sure this 'not a sacking club' thing is something to be worn as some kind of badge of honour when you're up Shit Creek with no paddle.
