I've only read the written interview, not listened to it. Most frightening is this: "We had enough opportunities to get something from the game." He's started to sound like Pulis. What was he watching???

Since Hughes we have had three different managers and not had the new manager ‘bounce’ with any of them. Tells you something about the club or the players surely.

These are his players his tactics his decision who plays and where, he asked to be judged after a full pre season he is the manager of this pile of horse shit simple as that, we are worse now than under Rowett that is a fact that can not be ignored much longer, he put his head on the block just a matter of time before the axe falls. Do you think he's lost the dressing room already? It is quite possible. In fact I wonder if they ever really respected him from the start.

But I'm not sure what we are going to get even if 'it' ever comes along!!!! Preston just had to simply turn up tonight to win that one. There is a massive disconnect between the manager and players.

He’s had a rough start but if you think Federici is better then I strongly suggest you seek medical help Better as a whole is irrelevant. Basics are what is required. Who will do the basics. We’ve conceded 10 goals now, butland was fully culpable for 4, partly for another 1. Take away those 4 goals without any thought for their impact on the confidence/dynamic of the team and we’re in a completely different position. He’s cost us, and his mistake have got worse. Worst thing we ever did was sell Grant. Ideal championship keeper, good distribution, did the basics well. Butland is an ideal lower half prem keeper. Picks worldies out the top corner week in week out. We don’t need that, we need basics done well. I think it's a massive mistake to pin it on Butland. There are problems all over the pitch and if we don't realise that we are in big trouble. The first goal, ok Butland should do better, but the player has got a free hit from 20 yards with no Stoke player remotely near him, that's not right. It doesn't matter who your goalkeeper is, they are not going to be able to bail you out with that kind of schoolboy defending.

There have been some great coaches who could not manage football teams effectively because they put too many ideas into the player's heads.

That’s true for management in general. It may be cliche to say it’s all about communication, but it really is. You can devise the greatest plan in the world but it will never work if people don’t understand it. I couldn’t work out what the mild-field was supposed to be doing. Woods was clearly at the base of the diamond but the other three were all over the place. I could not tell if it was supposed to be Ince, Allen or Clucas at the tip. They were all over the place. At one point all three of them were out on the wing within about 6 feet of each other. Apart from Woods, McLean, who is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, was the only player who seemed to know what he was supposed to do. Butland may be down in the dumps in part because has to watch a complete shambles unfolding in front of him.

What I got from the interview was that he sounds out of his depth and he's running out of idea's and he's got to be careful about publicly slating his players it could backfire on him spectacularly he could find himself on the end of a dressing room revolt.

Football is a simple game complicated by coaches.
Jones needs to pick what he thinks are his best XI players in roles they know how to play, unclutter their minds and tell them to go out and enjoy themselves. Didn't the likes of Busby and Clough do just that and they didn't do too badly, did they?

When teaching or training people that might not be the brightest of bunnies in the hutch, there is a golden rule. Don't just tell them what to do. What you do is -
Tell them what you are going to say.
Say it.
Then tell them what you have just said.
This golden rule has been used in the British army for years. I will add that as a general rule, footballers qualify as not being the brightest of bunnies.
I might also add that I have seen more than one university lecturer using the same method.

Says it not positioning, not getting cut open. Just not doing the basics. Which is true isn't it? First two goals on Butland, second one half on Batth for letting a ball bounce first. Third goal Etebo passing a ball across his own box. Forget the system for 5 minutes. If you've got experienced professionals doing that you won't win a game of football playing any system. It's difficult to forget the system, teams are cutting through the middle of us like a hot knife in butter!!!

Actually looked like he wanted cry - I do feel for the bloke but if he doesn’t get a result in the next few games he’ll be gone Trouble is, it's not just one result anymore, to take the pressure off, he needs a good series of results just to relieve a little of that pressure!!! Had we have beaten Derby on Sat'day, we would have still gone to Preston and lost, one win here and there ain't gonna cut it, plus it'll keep us firmly in the relegation spot!!!

I think Jones is frustrated because he practices this bloody diamond in training and it works fine against his own players. The problem lies in the fact the opposition’s coach has worked out how to beat it. Taking shots at Butland is clearly in their plan because his nerves are shot. They score a quick goal, we panic, then everything we learnt goes out the window and we run around with our heads cut off.

Not sure he ever had it tbh, we got worse when he took over last season which has carried over despite his signings this. No we didn't, the defence for one got better ironically. Yet the results got worse which even after his signings and a full pre season the poor results have continued.

I'm Not saying he shouldnt be calling Butland out for his part but he certainly shouldnt be doing it on tv, I would be surprised if that doesn't cause a dressing room Fiasco if there isnt/wasn't 1 already in operation.

Butland deserves every bit of criticism he gets, he's been woeful. Maybe a public spanking by the manager will wake him up

The opposite is happening and we are caving in through avoidable mistakes. The first goal came from a simple ball over the top and a keeper error from a straight forward shot from the edge of the penalty area. The second from a long ball that wasn't dealt with by a 29 year old, then the goalkeeper again from an even weaker shot from even further out. The last goal is an international footballer passing the ball across his own box. That isn't being carved open. That's taking out a gun and blowing your own bollocks off.

I don't disagree with what he says there but I am a fan and Stoke is my team whereas he is the manager and this is his job. Does he really think that it is only at Stoke that players put themselves and their careers first and the club are a secondary consideration? Are his players attitudes about putting themselves first any different to, say Pogba and Shaqiri or most of the players at any Premier or ex-Premier League club? Life might be simpler as a manager in the lower leagues where most players are probably happy to be able to pay their mortgage and enjoy themselves a bit, but that is not the pond in which he is now managing. You wouldn't try to run Tesco the same way as a corner shop and the same applies to football clubs. How would he have coped with trying to manage Arnie or N'Zonzi? His job is to find what makes his players tick, how to make best use of those players and that includes persuading them that if they perform well for the club they will achieve their financial and success ambitions, either by staying at Stoke or using us as a stepping stone to bigger and better things.

Getting sick of it, we're not the first team to get relegated or struggle
There's teams that sort it out and there's teams that don't
We clearly haven't sorted it out so it's far more likely we're in the Sunderland, Charlton, Portsmouth etc group
Our biggest issue is that the people really in charge are fucking slow, 90% of fans saw what was happening and we got "what's all the fuss about?"

Correct. He’s gone from rowing on a lake to captaining the Titanic, where the size and complexity of the task are beyond his knowledge, capability, and experience. The man could be on the brink of destroying his mental health, and his interviews have reached babbling point. He looks permanently jet lagged other than that Welsh version of River Dance that he keeps doing every time we fuck upon the field, which I suppose keeps him fit.

With intimating that he’ll drop Butland he’s backed himself into a corner that if he doesn’t he’ll make himself look pretty stupid. Worse if he plays him and he has another bad game

Yeah, but I'm not on about individual mistakes throughout each game. Our biggest threat has come not so much down the flanks, but through the middle, once an opposition player runs at us through the middle, it scares the hell out of me, we look so vulnerable!!!

I’ve never felt so embarrassed as I feel with this interview. Fuck off! Why? I’ve explained it a million times in the thread. Babbling, saying the formation is fine because it worked for 8 minutes, basically saying he’s going to drop Jack Butland on national TV...I’ve never seen a manager interview like it. And it was live on Sky Sports.

Wanting 2 players to compete in every position? Not conducive to team play, more likely to encourage a player to try and impress as an individual Difficult to manage, yes drop players who are out of form, rotate players when we have games in quick succession but we need to reward those who show that they want to play for each other Over to you Nathan, you’re the manager
