How do we turn it around so we start scoring the majority of penalties again ? There's a mental problem now even Jones has admitted as much. Maybe hypnosis 😂

Practice practice practice. And just taking them isn't practice.

We aren’t getting promoted until we crack this, I’m afraid.

Get Powell on them, pretty sure he took them for Wigan after Grigg left.

The players need to grow up, stop shitting themselves and hit the ball with conviction.
And stop hitting it bottom corner for fuck sake.

Practice practice practice. And just taking them isn't practice. Jones says all the players are practicing them in training....well that's working well isn't it.

James Beattie
thats all you need to say really
SO
even if the goalie gets behind it
both he and the ball still end up in the back of the net

I know they had a plane to catch but they had an opportunity at Duisburg to do a proper penalty shoot out and they couldn’t be arsed to do it. Surely that would have been a good opportunity we didn’t take. We’re so weird!

It's not a mental problem when 80% of the team is new.
It's just poor tekkers in the moment. Southgate and Batty style.
The best peno taking player I've seen is Shearer and closely followed by Beattie, which were similar.
Hell shot top bin.

Interesting the idea of Butland taking them
Immediately after yesterday’s save they broke away and threatened our goal in seconds.
If Jack had taken it he would have been stranded and we would have a several page post and debate on here.

Give them to Nick powell would be a good start I agree. But wasn’t it the case Vokes has either never missed one or missed about 1 in 10 before he joined us? Makes you wonder doesn’t it. Then you see this: And I know he’s being flippant and it is funny but that’s the mentality around the place. You have an ultra positive bloke and he’s being cynical and negative about something that is mental.

I jus don’t know what it is afobe had a decent record, vokes did. Just nuts really

Whatever happened to shaping your body one way and hitting it the other? Nearly all of our recent penalties have been easily telegraphed by goalkeepers. It’s just really poor technique.

Just nuts really Penalties are difficult, it’s about the only thing I’m good at on the football pitch but the goals shrink and the keepers get bigger and they’re horrible. You can’t go into that thinking you’re going to miss. Vokes’ yesterday was just awful though. Nowhere near the corner, nice pace and easy for the keeper. It’s a quandary but somehow we have to best it. We can’t afford to keep missing a free shot on goal.

James Beattie thats all you need to say really SO even if the goalie gets behind it both he and the ball still end up in the back of the net The goalie will always save the odd one, but Stoke's problem does seem to be psychological. Beattie always said he imagined he was taking the penalty playing in the back garden with his kids, and that took the pressure off. Visualisation needed.

I remember during Man. Utd's relegation season, Alex Stepney (goalkeeper) was their allocated penalty taker during part of the season. He was, for a while, their top scorer with 4 goals from penalties.
Yesterday Butland was asking the bench if he could take our penalty in the first half. Not only was he asking but the supporters were chanting for him to take it. Alas no he didn't take it and we failed to convert number 11 of 13.
Butland has proved he can take a penalty, so why not be our penalty taker.
There will always be a risk if the penalty is saved but surely we should give it a go.

I'm sure there is a rule change on penaltys starting this season (I maybe wrong). If missed no matter what it's a goal kick. So more time for the keeper get back to the box,but he wont miss anyway 🙂.

I think I'd rather try and fix the embarrassing scenario where 10 outfield professional first team players can't kick a ball 18yds as competently as a goalkeeper who frankly is one of the worst for distribution with his feet in England.

Goalie's taking penalties will only ever be a novelty. It's far too risky. The speed that they broke at yesterday would have left us a goal down if Jack had taken and missed it. It's good for a laugh, but that's all. Somewhere in our ranks of outfield players will be a penalty taker who will eventually take and consistently score from penalties. If we're in the promotion pack at the end of the season we'll miss out if we don't find that player.

Dreamboat Powell is the only one from our assumed 11 who I'd trust.
I always fancied Vokes to welly it into the back of the neck it a la Jonny Walters but his have both been shit.
