He still missed a fair few even when whacking them though? The only good penalty takers we've had in the last 10-13 years are Hoefkens, Higgi and Beattie. Arnautovic was good, he only missed one which arguably started the rot and I think is the only miss of his career to date. He got 5/6 I believe. Has that one come out of orbit yet?

He missed a few (like any player) but he knew how to put it in the top corner He still missed a fair few even when whacking them though? The only good penalty takers we've had in the last 10-13 years are Hoefkens, Higgi and Beattie. Always thought George Berry had a good record too, going back a bit further? Beattie was fantastic because you knew it was going hard and high but still couldn’t stop it. Best pen taker I’ve seen at Stoke.

All this talk about it, watch us go a season without a penalty now.... This is what seriously pisses me off about the situation. We've been through phases where we couldn't buy a penalty. Now refs throw them in our direction like confetti. It's not just a wasted opportunity. It must also put the team on a downer now everytime it happens. We'd be better off just being denied the penalty and channeling the anger.

Looking at the squad it wouldn't surprise me if Tommy Smith was worth a try as the Penalty guy. I think he would be calm and prepared to out think the keeper, keeping him waiting and giving himself the edge. Just a hunch but could well be an option.

Is Nathan getting confused with the figures as he espouses his philosophy of "20 outfield players and 3 goalkeepers" in his squad. Or has he got a secret plan for the season. From a Sentinel report: "It's not ideal. We have a very good goalkeeper in Jack Butland who is technically very good but we should have enough in the outfield eleven to be able to take a penalty from 12 yards. So I don't really want to resort to that. Perhaps he thought about an eleven man outfield, and then had second thoughts.

He's not confused it is his plan to dominate in midfield by playing an enhanced diamond of 4 1 3 1 2 in front of Butland

This is probably the oddest comment I've read in a while...you've looked a picture of Tommy Smith and you've assessed his character and thought process and concluded he's the man to take them?! Tbf there's probably some equally bizarre process we use now to decide who takes them.

Who's the most confident player in the squad ? Collins I'd go with Etebo. At least he'd smash it - might go anywhere but at least we won't see another ball roll towards the goal keeper in slow motion!

Top Left And Top Right Corners - Goalies cant reach those areas from a standing start - every professional footballer should be able to hit those two areas, if they are not adept enough to send goalie the wrong way

Maybe its because they are practicing against Butland who cannot save penalties so they think they are better at it than they are. I've thought this before also. The fact that we basically don't save pens but always miss, would suggest in training our strikers prob bury 5 in 5 against Buttland and then stop practising. When we get to a game, we don't know what to do when the keeper doesn't dive out of the way.
