If it’s a coaching/player role why would it split opinion? The player in question is transgender and voted Remain. And also wants Scottish independence and thinks Simon Cowell is utterly charming

This summer is going to be ace. If nothing else, it will certainly sort the wheat from the chaff on the terraces.

Some will rally round and get behind it, others will moan and groan. I predict the battle lines will be more apparent come August.

Barry will look to go to Villa, once they get shot of Terry (could happen any minute). His beef was with O'Neill, never with Villa. It's his club. They belong together. If he did come here, he would be off the second there was an opening there.

I'd definitely guess at Whelan. Fits the best. Why would Whelan split opinion? That's what he made a business of doing his entire time here. A lot of people failed to see the purpose of Whelan - I've never understood why. Then he also "split" the wisdom of the managers', both of them. They spent millions trying to replace Whelan. Never succeeded.

McCormack will be primarily here as a coach I would think, but if he's still got the legs to contribute on the pitch then you can see why he'd be brought in. The manager will want eyes and ears in the dressing room and someone who'll enforce standards in the way that Whelan used to do.
The bloke might be 35 but Luton fans love him, and I remember Nigel Gleghorn at a similar age being the best midfielder in the division.

Do the words 'Fast' and 'Attacking', mean something different in Welsh? Who wants an attacking defensive mid Nathan Jones does.

Imbula ....
no.
NJ believes the players are so unbalanced they need a coach on the pitch with them.

In terms of likelihood, I'd go:
1. McCormack (by a distance the most likely. Just ticks every box in terms of personal relationship with Jones, having his coaching badges, being a leader-type around the training ground, knowing the system etc)
2. Whelan 3. Barry
But I don't think whoever it is will play many games and the first-choice DM will be one of our biggish money buys

As a coach, I'd absolutely welcome Whelan back. It'd be great for the squad and he's known as a disciplinarian. I just want a refreshed midfield. I don't mind the odd game here and there, but we have to move forwards with playing staff.

Don't see any issue with Whelan as a player coach, villa have done well. Barry has played onto 39 it's a position that can be generally kind on the longevity of a players career. He's the type we need in the dressing room with the lack of leadership & in game character (bottling it) and there is a tailor made position for him in Jones' diamond.
Again, (for me) it would be a shrewd move. Of the 4 looking likely to come in so far its only the Barnsley keeper I have my doubts about

The Luton fella makes sense if the playing time is very limited.
Whelan and Barry make zero sense unless it's just as a coach.

Has Whelan got his badges? If not, the coach part of player coach might not apply. Don't get the player bit of this really, but if McCormack is fit, he'd be fine for the odd cup game and on the bench perhaps, but not quite what we were expecting. Can't see Glen coming back myself.
