Whelan was great for us.
But if he'd had almost the exact same career, but had played for say Sunderland for 10 years instead of us, there wouldn't be a single person on here suggesting we sign him now.

Villa went up and he needed a new home. Challenging again in the championship after doing it successfully the previous year seems a bit pointless, probably wanted a new challenge. I'm quite sure he could have joined any team in the league and been a good addition, bar the top few. He wanted a new challenge? Doesn't really sound like it given he only signed a 1 year deal does it? I'd say any player moving to Scottish football (which is harldy the most "challenging" of leagues for any professional footballer) for just 1 year signifies it will be the last year of his playing days. I just find it odd when we're trying to re-build/start from scratch with a squad, that anyone would think that someone who's nearly 36 and only willing to sign for a year would be in any way some kind of solution to our problems. Apart from Nathan Jones with Stephen Ward who he thinks slots in nicely in arguably one of our most important positions. But he could be here another year if he plays a few more games and gets his contract automatically extended.

God bless you Glenn Whelan. Pound-for-pound one of the best signings the club has ever made. The way in which you were the only calm head on the pitch after Ramsey broke his leg was a credit to you

Good luck Glenda
You'll do a great job at Hearts and then drift seamlessly into coaching and management
Hopefully he'll return in one of those roles some day
Understated, under-rated. A great pro

I bet he absolutely hated doing that video Like the quote blood doesn’t show on a maroon shirt But in all seriousness if Badou and Imbulla and wimmer ECT had showed the same desire to actually play the game as whelan than stoke wouldn’t be in the same place

Oh I don't think we should have signed him at all, just pointing out the error of getting rid ask those years ago. Nothing to do with now, we did definitely be looking forward. Where we are looking and where we are going is up for debate.
