Thought he was our best player today. I know you like to wind people up, but that’s plain stupid. Let the ball bounce too many times and at fault for the second goal. He’s a fantastic prospect, and will continue to develop, but still lots to learn. Deserves to keep his place though.
Surely that means he was our best player today.

Collins is a fantastic prospect but fuck me his defending for their 2nd goal is dreadful after watching it again The only way to view it is, if Ryan had his performance today, would people be happy.

For me his inexperience told today at times on both the goal Abd distribution when were chasing the game , next game he’d start for me is Wigan away m but we are going to need nous v charlton , Derby and Leeds

Im not doubting his performance or potential mate just his defending for that goal and if it had been Ryan I’d have said the same

It’s not often you see an attacker run 30 yards unchallenged at a centre half tbh. We've been seeing that every week at stoke for three years. Throughout that time we've had fuck all in midfield. It's a fucking joke Yup and people still can’t see it.

Looked good.
Error for the second goal but that happens.
Keep playing him.

The second goal was scored by their attacking midfielder ( where was Cousins?) who took the ball in 20 yards of space, ran straight at Collins and yes, skinned him. Shame it wasn’t Afobe ( whose first touch would have given us a goal kick) or Vokes ( who would just about have reached the penalty area by now. Collins’ display was one of the few bright spots in today’s game. We will be able to huff and puff for 90 minutes, no question, but today we have lost to a team that will finish in the bottom 6, and have managed one shot on target- yet you know that very little will change come the Charlton game; Clucas will go to left wing back so that Etebo can play, and Jones will make Collins the scapegoat and pick Lindsay.

First real chance to have a look at him and I have to concur with most on here and say he is the real deal and a very exciting prospect a genuine class act. Let's hope Jones manages him correctly.

I said 10 mins in there was a mistake in him. He looks clumsy in the tackle and has been watching too many John Stones dvd's. His whole style is Stones.
He's not ready for this level but we will keep playing him.
We will ship goals.

Jones will probably sideline him now going by his usual form. Good game? You're dropped lad!

There are certain people on this site who were very negative about Nathan Jones's courage earlier this week concerning whether Collins would be selected. "Cowardly" was the word thrown about by these people. When will they be posting on here to apologise for their stupid comments! He had to play him, we had no one else. If he carries on playing him I might apologise. It should worry every Stoke fan that Nathan Jones is going to sign more footballers judging by the utter dross he has signed already. Shambles. This. The guy is a fraud. And I will be amazed if Collins plays against Charlton. Jones will shit himself and Lindsay will be partnering Batth. Is Davies injured?

For a young 18 year old, Collins was great yesterday! Good in the air, quite quick I thought, and so calm on the ball. I know he made a few mistakes yesterday, but he 18 and will learn. We need to look after this kid!

His distribution reverted to type- Jesus, can Baath actually play any pass without toe ending the ball 50 yards? The same issue was present for the second goal as happened time and again last year, when the intelligentsia were slating Shawcross, which was “here’s 30 yards of space, our midfield is chasing its tail and is nowhere to be seen, go on have a run”. Zee showed some pace, was direct and finished well. We don’t have one player who given the ball in the same area of the pitch, who would have been able to do that-Vokes wouldn’t have reached the Penalty Area, Afobe would have booted the ball out and Ince ( who may have been capable) was on the bench. For a team that has worked on the “Diamond” all pre- season there was a complete lack of cover in front of the Centre Halves.

Imagine the hysteria if Shawcross was turned inside out like Collins for the 2nd goal. He’d be hung out to dry!! 11 cardboard cut outs would have put up more of a fight that our professional footballers for their second. All started from the keeper playing it out and they breezed straight through us with total ease!

Nathan Collins has great potential and has a lot to offer but also has a lot to learn.
1st goal major mistake by butland. McLean was slow to cover on the left but Collins was also ballwatching from the centre and allowed his man to stand goal side of himself with no pressure from Collins - resulting in easy goal for the striker. 2nd goal half hearted running back by clucas no challenge to the attacker, Collins stabbed his foot in and was easily beaten without giving any obstacle.
These are mistakes which played a part in us conceding 2 goals would a more hardened centre half got goal side of his man for the 1st goal or try to block the runner for the 2nd goal.. I would hope so yes. I know Shawcross would have been crucified if he'd made those mistakes - although I do think Shawcross would of took the yellow card and blocked the runner to prevent the 2nd goal yesterday.
So while Collins is one to nurture and develop he is not at this point physical, hardened switched on enough to be a starter in a team with ambitions of promotion. We can't afford these learning curve mistakes if we're serious about promotion.

I disagree- he didn’t get done for physicality and neither Ba’ath or Shawcross would have stopped a guy who had 20 yards of space to run at them in- look at the goal conceded at Brentford in Jones’s first game. BMI would have been done as it would have been on his right foot ( which he uses solely for standing on) and I haven’t seen Lindsay, but it was only 12 moths ago that Barnsley were relegated conceding she’d loads of goals. The reason we may struggle is because we have a midfield with very little creativity and a set of starting forwards who don’t look like they have a goal in them.

Didn't say he got done for physicality but did say a hardened centre back would of blocked the runner and took a booking to prevent the goal - this is something Collins will in time learn. Agree we need to create and score but also can't give 2 soft goals away at home if we're serious about promotion. Developing Nathan Collins slowly while he learns his trade is the way to go. At this time having him as first choice Centre back while he is still learning the darker side of defending will do him no good and the mistakes he will make due to lack of experience will cost Stoke valuable points. I'm not trying to destroy Nathan but think we need to remember he is a youngster and not ready for bei g first choice at this moment.

Defending starts from the front, it's not just the back 5. With a midfield as weak as ours it's no wonder the defence gets exposed. For a start where was the closing down on Cameron for the 1st goal ? If Jones is putting the sole blame for the 2nd goal on Collins then he's an idiot....and it's looking more likely that he is with every passing day
