I think Afobe will go if we get a decent offer. Four forwards in a squad of 25 is normal. Vokes / Gregory (maybe) / Campbell (hopefully) and one other.....

Competition for Vokes, clever astute signing on a freebie

So based on Jones 2 players for every position it looks as though we now have next seasons striker pool. Vokes / Gregory Afobe / Campbell That would be a disaster

Blimey, shows how far we’ve fallen that’s for sure Still Norwich and Sheff Utd have proved that it’s a team game in this league and that there’s no place for superstars That's the main takeaway this season for me. I was struck by Sheff Utd's squad of journeymen, never-has-beens and never-heard-ofs being molded into something by a manager who knows what he's doing. I'm not hung up on price tags and glitzy reputations anymore. The Millwall fans reckon this guy is one of the hardest workers they've had for years and that's a hell of a starting point. millwall-forum.vitalfootball.co.uk/threads/lee-gregory.35168/Don't blame him and wish him all the very best. He has deserved better.
Work rate - by far the best on the pitch.
Goals - Could have scored far more, some of it his fault, but mainly being left up top on his own hasn't helped his cause.
Commitment - Even when he has been left on his own to deal with 2-3 at times 4 defenders, he still has a go and tries to create something. He gave his all whether we saw a result from the game and that's all we can ask of a Wall player.
Creativity - Only when he has had a decent player round him has his excellent creativity really shone.
Shame but all things come to an end. Just hope Bradshaw comes back better than before he was injured and actually plays. Regardless, we need another striker and a decent one at that.Spot on with every point. Gregory is probably one of the most hardest working players I’ve ever watched in a Millwall shirt, when he goes he will go with the best wishes from everyone at the club, In years to come he will be remembered fondly as someone who gave it everything.
Them Millwall forum descriptions could well replicate that of an Ipswich fan describing Jon Walters before we signed him especially regarding his high work rate but perhaps not scoring enough. That move ended up working out quite well didn't it?

Real good player at this level. Can't see a problem with him personally although thought he was a bit younger but not really that relevant if free and we're building a promotion team

Come to think of it why the fuck did we splash £9m on vokes when we had Gregory lined up for a free in the summer?? We could of just kept crouch til the end of the season and saved ourselves the money. 🤦♂️

Can’t do those kinky things but if you go on bbc website and read Wigan versus millwall match yesterday there’s a glowing tribute of Gregory from Neil Harris Millwall manager Neil Harris: "I have to say I quite enjoyed the game. As a neutral, it was quite entertaining. It could have been 4-4 if both sides had taken their chances. "We played a little bit more expansive football than we have done. I wanted the players to pass the ball a bit more than we have been doing, and I knew it would leave us open at the other end. "I can only thank Lee Gregory for his efforts while I've been in charge. Not just his goalscoring record but his quality as a person. Hugely popular in the changing room with players and staff. We're going to miss him immensely, but he goes with our complete blessing. It would be a great signing for somebody."

He sounds exactly like the kind of forward Luton fans said that NJ likes to use.
Basically, he has one bigger target man (which is where Vokes comes in) and then someone who'll run all day long, close defenders down and do all the Jon Walters-type stuff that other teams hate playing against. As FullerMagic said, surely we've learnt now that reputations and big transfer fees mean nothing?
Everything is about players having the right attributes to fit into a system.
Couldn't care less about him being 30. If we can get 2 good years out of him for free then he'll be a good signing.

Strange, yes. Blocker for Campbell? Don't agree. Vokes, Campbell and Gregory would give us three different strikers. One target man, one Walters type grafter (both experienced) and one young poacher. I won't lie and try and say I'd predicted it or even suggested it but that's not to say it wouldn't work. The Championship is weird and weird stuff works sometimes. If he works harder than Afobe he's onto a winner before he starts and remember the last time we were in this league and promoted, we did so with Mama and Cresswell! Some people seem to scared to critise but Vokes , Cambell and Gregory does not set the pulses racing and would certianly leave us where we are in the league now, with no goals. Hopefully he could be a Vokes replacement. We need pace and guile not a 31 year workhorse. pace , pace pace. Scared to criticise my backside. Equally some are only too willing to criticise and have been since day one. We spent mega money last summer and ended up with a lazy, work shy, downbeat squad of arseholes that took us to 16th place. They cost 50M+. If at the end of this summer that has been turned around into a squad of footballers that are prepared to graft and play for the club then I'm all for it, whether they are young or old, expensive or cheap. I'll leave it to Jones to decide who that is. He created a machine at Luton that have raced through two divisions in lightning quick time. It's no given he'll repeat it here but I'm prepared to give him time to have a go, without criticising his every move. As for you (and others), please yourself.

Jones has his own way of working and selects players to fit his system which worked fantastically well at Luton. No guarantees it will definitely work here as well but I'm more than willing to give him time to see if he can transform us in the same way.

Sounds to me like this is going to be a "dressing room" signing, someone popular who can sort out whatever shit goes on in there. I would prefer 10 guys like this in the team than 10 overpaid twats that don't give a shit.

Go and look at the squads that both Norwich & Sheffield United have got automatically promoted with.
Trust the manager. If all of our 6/7/8 signings this summer come from the Championship or League One, that'll do for me.
I watched a side yesterday, no better than us on paper, that have shown the way. It was a 90-minute glimpse of what you do, and don't, need to get out of this weird, God-forsaken pissing League.
