If the new manager doesn't click, then yes. At the end of the Rowett era, we were under the same risk. Performances were dropping. Next month is absolutely massive. No way we would have gone down under Rowett. I just hope bojan is this saviour that people were hounding Rowett for not using. That's where it started. Bojan hysteria, the bojan that has done fuck all for 3 years. It's all Bojan's fault, you read it here first folks

If these player ain't going to do what he wants then yes we could go down. Remember a number of them are out of here anyway at the end of season. If we do go down we will probably offer Crouch an extension!

If we lose a few now while we adjust to the new manager, we will suddenly find we're playing a "must win" game against someone like Reading or Millwall.
I wouldn't fancy this lot to win a "must win" game against a struggling primary school reserve team.

Then I was excited we appointed Jones. Now I'm thinking well at least Rowett might have shithoused a 1-0 win from one of those games to keep the wolf from the door. Jones seems several levels of intelligence higher than Rowett, but he's not a shithouser. Can this team get results without shithousing?

Ok I've panicked and looked at where we were in the middle of January in the 1997-98 season.
After 27 games, we had 32 points and were sitting just below midtable. Then we sacked the out-of-his-depth Chic Bates and appointed a popular left-field choice but extremely inexperienced manager. We never got that dead manager bounce and we all know how it ended.
This season we have played 27 games and have 35 points.
That's as much research as I want to do.

There is nothing more certain that the team will be relegated regardless of the manager unless we buy the players we need this window or we go back to playing the type of football as per Gary Rowett

Jones rode in on a wave of optimism (which I share). But people pointing to our alleged superiority, which supposedly means we can't go down, would do well to remember what was said exactly a year ago. The team we have is awful, but it's not worse than what we had last year, and we went down. So time will tell whether Jones is a Lambo...

I think we'll bring in 2 or 3 new players in this window. We'll continue to struggle to get to grips with NJ's tactics initially but after three or four games we'll start to pick up and results will definitely improve. I think we'll definitely stay up and then look forward to a real promotion push next season. There will obviously need to be a large clear out of players and NJ will hopefully bring in his own players without interference from the deadly duo.

Strange reading your posts. You heavily backed Rowett. The fact is when he took over he inherited a squad that looked just one or two key signings away from having been competitive in the premier league. If we'd had a decent striker in the second half of last season we would have survived. Rowett had a huge budget, and has squandered nearly all of it, with a scatter gun approach to signing players that don't fit into any system. It is NOW, after Rowett's summer window, that we really are in a fucking mess. You backed him all the way. rubbish, it was a 2 year job?, who is to say after another summer the new signings wouldn't have complimented his early signings? You wanted instant success, it hasn't happened so the dummies were spat out and now we're left hoping a manager with no championship experience will play bojan and keep us up.. you couldn't make it up Why couldn't his early signings have complimented the system he was hell bent on playing?

Because he inherited a bunch of shite. So did McLaren, Adkins and Bielsa. ...and none of those retained Premier League players or spent 50M to make things worse. Not one of those managers has an England goalkeeper, for example.

He wasn’t going to. Managers don’t change their spots.

I can't see us going down, as of now, I don't see us going anywhere meaningful. That's not a slight at Jones BTW. With the current set of players, they may scrape Top 12. Let's face it, they're a shower of shite and have been for quite a while. I think Jones needs to get a couple in this window to suit his system to ease the transition slightly over to the diamond system he plays, and then in the Summer we need a full review of the playing staff, because Lord knows we have a few who need to just go. A good, solid DCM wouldn't go amiss right now.
I think he might give Bauer a run on Tuesday. He does fit the pacy full back criteria he requires for the full backs to bomb on and provide the width. And Bojan will probably get some time as well on Tuesday you'd imagine.
I think we stay up (comfortably in the end), and Jones really gets to get into the nitty gritty next season, in the hope of a proper promotion charge.

Ideally yes, but I'm not about to demand for his head on a stick for not doing it, January just around the corner it could have made a big difference, we don't know what he was planning for the January & summer windows. You can't judge a man after 6 month of salvaging a train wreck.. I think we're about to find out more about this so called premiership squad that GR should have been doing better with

He did himself no favours whatsoever.

For what it's worth, take Rowett out of the equation I feel NJ is a decent long term appointment, but there is every chance it will get worse before it gets better. I'm looking forward to seeing this squad with this defence that GR was supposed to be doing better with to start getting more wins than GR managed.

Who was Adams going to play instead of then, given he played with one striker? I agree it could get worse before it gets better, Jones in addition to the learning curve has no bedding in time and an even bigger job on his hands because of the mess his idiot predecessor bequeathed to him, which involved further unbalancing the squad and spending most of the budget to do so.

I'm looking forward to seeing this squad with this defence that GR was supposed to be doing better with to start getting more wins than GR managed. Rowett was appointed in May if memory serves me correct so that "defence" is all his work, he chose to spend his budget elsewhere mainly in collecting central midfield players. Please don't come up with the usual James Chester crap, he said from day one he wasn't interested and as soon as the takeover was complete that was that (as a sidenote he's been total horse shit all season anyway). Rowett must have had a plan b?? although Scholes and Cartwright always take all the flak whose to say that Ashley Williams wasn't Rowett's plan b (he had two old codgers at Derby as CB's don't forget). We were never linked with anyone else the board gave Rowett the best transfer budget in the league and he didn't think spending it on the defence was necessary. You mentioned earlier that Rowett should have credit for two of out top scorers being his signings, well so they bloody should be as they're both forwards (with Saido as competition it isn't a surprise) but the defence is some one other than Rowett's fault? It doesn't make sense he had the budget to shape the whole team the fact he neglected the defence his down to him alone.
