3 managers in 12 months, and they all can't get a tune out of this shower of shit. If Rowett hadn't have been a total shit house prick I am sure he would have still been here. A total mismanagement of requirement in the summer left us with a defence that can't defend a midfield that simply doesn't work (in any combination or personnel) and a forward line that see so little of the ball they are possibly caught cold when they do get the ball. Make no mistakes this isn't a manager problem this is a poison in the club, Rowett was removed because of his lack of respect for the fans and players nothing else. NJ looks very much like he has just won a golden ticket, I'm not sure of his character behind closed doors but I'm sure as shit he doesn't have the authority when it comes to the more senior players in this puss poor squad. In one transfer window Rowett has caused probably most of the problems we have in the current squad. He's done that in one window mate. Absolute disaster of a manager As a club we must have seen something in Rowett to not only offer him the job twice but then stump up a compensation package. Rowett is not a bad manager, but as a person he is just not likable.

Well we are all connected to Stoke so we don’t have faith in ourselves?? You think stoke fans will stick with it? We'll be back to the pre premier league 13500 in no time at all. If people listen to your negative vibes yeah we will. I will still be one of them I imagine, will you?

I think there may come a day when we're so dominant that fullbacks can concentrate on being creative and providing attacking options, and they can march forward safe in the knowledge that defenders and midfield anchors will cover for them. But that's not gonna happen for many years, and Bauer will be retired then. For sure he already looks good rushing forward with or without the ball, however when it comes to defensive duties he just doesn't know about them. So either he will have to be moved on, and he's the one SCFC player who probably will have takers, or Jones will have to be on his case every day to teach basic defensive duties. I think he might have other, more pressing tasks on his hands. So I'd sell Bauer. I am pleased that the board has appointed a young up and coming manager like Nathan Jones, who has the ability to sort out the current mess that is Stoke City, always assuming he has the full support of the board and if fully backed by the fan base. Gary Rowett unfortunately was undermined by the fanbase. but I do not believe he was a bad appointment, and would have succeeded in time given the removal of the slackers abd parasites. In short the complete overhail promised by Peter Coates and never carried out. Gary Rowett treated the fan base with disdain, I'd have been surprised and disappointed if he wasn't taken to task over it, I for one am glad he was.

6 might be a bit generous T Dog None of the defenders, bar Butland (although even he was poor today) Woods, Etebo and Allen maybe...who else? Obviously they can't all be got shot off straight away so Jones will need to prioritise...this season is already pretty much over so we should just sit back and watch it unfold...might be entertaining Butland won't stay beyond this year anyway. i think Edwards has a future even though he's not the finished article; Bauer you'd hope would shine in a system where full-backs get forward; Federici looks alright as a back-up keeper; Bruno will be alright with a decent CB partner; woods has got ability and will come good again; Etebo certainly has something about him; Clucas is versatile enough to be useful; Ince would get into any Championship side; Bojan we should try and build the team around; Campbell looks like he's got a bit of potential. There you go- that's ten I'd keep for next season! Bloody optimist

Readily have to admit new nothing of Jones before his appointment. Even worse I had paid no attention to the Championship. Completely taken by suprise by the quality, energy and youthful enterprise of the teams.
We have been regularly overwhelmed by "lesser" teams because we have completely the wrong players to compete in many of our key positions. Rowett did little to improve this despite 8 changes. Jones needs the opportunity and backing, including by the fans, to build a team that is competative. Probably needs at least 3 windows and money backing as well as the time to develop players. Not a quick fix but it will be a lasting improvement and if the recruitment team isn't good enough it will also need to be changed.
Big task but actually an exciting one to watch unfurl. The more I have researched and learned about Jones, the more I am looking forward to Stoke growing in stature. Very reminiscent to me of the early Waddington years as the team improved on a regular basis but with a nucleus of home grown.

Watching that has emphasised just what a massive job that the manager has. We had an awful, unbalanced squad that got relegated that's somehow been made even worse by Rowett's awful purchases in the summer. Jones's system of a midfield diamond isn't going to suit these players (the defence is too bad) but to be honest, NOTHING suits them because they're so wank. If the manager made the system work at Luton then we have to put all of our faith in his tactical philosophy and accept that we're going to watch some hidings while he sorts this mess out. The rest of the season and the summer should be spent shipping out as much of this God-awful squad as possible to give him room to manoeuvre in the transfer market. Long-term, I'd keep about six of them and the rest can go. Would genuinely like to see some of the young uns given a bit of a go until we can get some proper players in. Hard to disagree with this now. These players have gotten away with it for too long because of how poor tactically we were under Lambert and Rowett, time for them to take responsibility now. Too many of our players have incredibly weak mentalities (including ones who have been winners in the past) and the third goal yesterday was a prime example. I love Shawcross to bits, he's undoubtedly a legend at this club. I can accept the fact he's not as good as he used to be now that age and injuries are catching up to him. What I really cannot accept is him getting done in so easily by a fucking left-back while he just stands there lazily sticking a foot out. No commitment, no drive to stay in a game when there is only one goal in it; just loses all his composure as soon somebody runs at him one-on-one. It really pains me to say, but it is a loser's mentality and it's not just Shawcross who shows it. Heads drop game after game as soon as a goal goes in against us. I'd be happy to finish anywhere in the midtable as long as we stay up (and I don't think we're in any real danger of going down). In the summer we'll probably have to sell Butland, but as long as his sale can fund a rebuild then so be it. If we can get a good fee for Allen, I'd be prepared let him go too if it can fund wholesale changes. I imagine the contracts of Crouch, Fletcher, Adam and Afellay (the last two of those should never have been under contract until 2019 to begin with, by the way) expiring should also free up a lot of wages. The manager should be allowed to sell whoever he wants, to be honest. If either of the pizza boys become an obstacle in allowing that to happen, they need to fuck off too. We really have to be patient with Jones because if he can rebuild us and get it right, then we might eventually be okay. Have say though, if the club (or Jones himself) gets it wrong this summer we'll be stuck down here for a long, long time.

Maybe yesterday was a blessing in disguise...he’s seen the worst of all those players and now won’t have to go back watching dvds of our performances this season.
Butland - fails to command the area, kicking is poor Edwards - tries but is young and has a lot to learn Shawcross - he can’t do it at this level anymore Williams - slow Pieters - can’t cross a ball Woods - slows play down, passes backwards far too often Clucas - lose the ball too often Allen - doesn’t seem to know where he’s supposed to be and what he’s supposed to be doing Ince - too prone to being a show pony needs to be more aggressive Berahino - goes missing Afobe - not getting any service but also appears lazy Etebo - has potential but not disciplined enough McClean - needs to learn to go round a man rather than through him, might be helped if he tries looking where he is going and not at the floor Crouch - not a match saver anymore, comes on and just gives free kicks away

Have you not read his comments about dreadful people, and his relief at being fired? The made up quote from a fake Twitter account? Yes, I saw that. I must apologise. I completely failed to realise that all the booing and chants of 'Gary Rowett, your football is sh..' were actually to encourage him. Odd how certain olayers thought otherwise.

Print it out and give it to NJ!

Strange how only a week or so ago it was all the fault of Gary Rowett because he couldn't get a tune out of a bunch of international footballers.
Now he's gone it's all the players faults because they're wank.......

Now he's gone it's all the players faults because they're wank....... This is a great point to be fair, after that showing against Brentford I think most fans have realised or remembered just how bad we are. I think we forgot that over the last few months and maybe Rowett was doing a decent job at stopping the rot (but not improving it). He still had to go though primarily for his disdain for the fans and his treatment of the players. NJ has a HUGE job on his hands

That and his football was shit...😁 I agree that he had to go mate and said he had to go when he turned on the fans. My gripe is that before a ball was kicked this season loads of folk on her were saying what an absolute shambles we were behind the scenes, and how we had a totally unbalanced squad devoid of any pace and top heavy with players on their way down career wise. Then once the season kicked off and they realised that they didn't like Rowetts style of football the goalposts were moved and all of a sudden it was "Rowett has to go because he can't get a tune out of one of the best squads in the league, littered with internationals. Now Rowett has been sacked they've moved the goalposts again and the players are shit again. Just makes me laugh that's all.

Oh right, change of tact now. So did you think his football was good? No, the football was not good because the problems of the last 2 or 3 years were still there.....lack of creativity, shot-shy attack, error prone slow defence. I think Gary Rowett underestimated the weaknesses in the team and therefore failed to solve them, but the question remains about the limitations of his budget and the role of Scholes and Cartright, together with the board. Rowett was largely a scapegoat for a more widespread failure within the club which has still to be tackled. Hopefully Nathan Jones will be up to it.

Players to keep: Butland Allen (decent player, needs a proper system around him Etebo Ince Campbell Berahino (Jones worked with him at England level, if anyone can make him a proper striker again, Jones can). And yep thats about it for me. Possibly Clucas and Woods, far better players before they came to Stoke, and both should fit well into a diamond system but we have seen little evidence of that so far. Berahino should be first out of the door. If that’s the case then we need 25 new players. Berahino has been one of our better players this season, playing alone up front for us must be soul destroying!

A bit of leadership from who though? The manager first and foremost. Then 'leaders' in the dressing room. For me I think that young quality quick centre back we all know we need would make the world of difference. Once the fullbacks trust the centre back so then the whole thing will improve. You are nearly there... but in this league we also need a strong, physical midfielder who can organise and do the hard graft in front of them and, dare I say it, a bloody good physical centre forward who knows how to upset oposing centre halves and knows where the net is.

Possibly, but it wasn't the fans who undermined him which was my original challenge. The vociferous opposition to Rowett only came to a head against Bristol. He got some stick beforehand but it was only ratcheted up after he'd made his comments against the fans which ultimately led to the toxic atmosphere against Bristol. That was his doing. We're all aware there are big issues but I don't think Rowett should be allowed to get away with his part in it.

If he'd got us promoted, took us on a run of wins or won us a cup or summat he'd have had credit in the bank to draw on. He hadn't and he didn't. The biggest problem was his raging narcissism took over and after he'd thrown various players under the bus he started on the fans.

But Gary Rowett wasn't the answer and got himself sacked by being a twat in public. We've played better attacking football under Jones and scored three decent goals in two games. He clearly has a tactical fan and wasn't afraid to give a couple of the kids a run out tonight. Not trying too hard to defend what's gone on, but Jones has made some decent calls. We've got to give him time now. We cannot allow ourselves to be in a position in the summer (or even next really January) where we have had five managers in three years, nothing could make it more certain that we'll be trapped down here for years with no long-term plan. Hopefully tonight will be the biggest wake-up call the board have ever received that no matter who the manager is and what the style of play is, we need serious investment in the defence - not two shit loanees from Everton.
