This is a bit like a thread on gay people... "I don't have a problem with them... but..." It's a bit like saying you can never understand why some folk become fanatical about politics, religion, ideology etc, and then you suddenly realise that you lose most of your mental capacity to think straight when you, fanatically, follow Stoke City. I'll leave this thread with a welcome video to Jones-the-Coach. It will show him that we Stokies have a sense of humour behind the bitterness we display when we play one up front. OS.

The two references to 'god willing' in his interview concerned me somewhat. Effort and talent wins football matches. If we lose has god just backed the other team? I'm a bit jaundiced having seen post match interviews on Monday with the winning American College football coach from S. Carolina who name-checked 'the lord' in virtually every sentence he uttered. Oh dear.

The Coates family are devout Christians and run Bet365. I’ve never heard that before about the Coates’. Is that even true!?! Dunno , when does one become 'devout' as oppose to just a regular Christian ? I must admit I'm extra wary of the devout ones !

He'd never have gone to Millwall then. Lions and Christians don't typically mix.

Of the catholic persuasion I believe. John Rudge is also a regular churchgoer. But then freedom of worship is something we subscribe to in the UK so no big deal really.

If he gets us into the playoffs this year and wins promotion then I'll start believing and go to church every Sunday with him.

Don't worry about it, it's just a saying. Pretty much the same as saying something like "I hope." I wondered why he said "God willing" so much, but it makes sense now.

I was pleased to learn that Nathan Jones is a christian, but what denomination has not been explained. Personally I am C of E because I was brought up in the Anglican Church and trained in Church music of which I am still an aficionado. In fact I remember Stoke Council offering prayers for Stoke City when they were a million pounds in debt, in the eighties and their futue was under threat. In fact it seemed that those prayers had been answered when a supermarket chain offered them £1 million for their training ground. Their prayers had been answered it seems, but Stoke Council in their infinite wisdom turned down the planning application! Says it all really.

When looking for adjectives to emphasize strength of Christian belief, Catholic = Devout Protestant = Staunch That's according to my Dad, anyway.

I have two cousins who are priests. I can request they swing the incense burners around during Friday morning mass if y'all think it would help this weekend. My mother is always lighting candles as well...

I certainly do. It is good to hear a young man publicly expressing his faith. I find that so long as I don’t try to impose my beliefs on anyone else they are quite happy to accept them as a part of me. And if a prayer or two helps us to promotion it can do no harm can it?

I don't care if he's a pagan sacrificing chickens before the whistle as long as he turns this shit around he's my man. If he was a Muslim saying "God willing" you backwards cunts over there would call him "courageous" and he'd prolly be on some BBC special about hate and "tolerance" in a week's time. Such a fucked up double standard these days.
