I’m confused... surely Luton could have refused Stoke any opportunity to discuss the option of becoming our manager, after all he was under contract? Furthermore, as mentioned before, Stoke paid an exact figure for compensation to which Luton agreed.
It seems as if the Luton board realised the fans reaction too late and are now trying to curry favour!! Jones himself said he was only made aware of the approach on „the Monday“ after the Luton board cleared it.

If they truly cared that much they could've just said "If we match their offer, will you stay?" instead they decided to be tight fucks with the money and be all bitter. They didn't even need to do that. He signed a new 4 year contract at the start of the season. They could literally have said "Fuck right off, he's contracted to us and we're keeping him" and that would have been the end of it.

They could literally have said "Fuck right off, he's contracted to us and we're keeping him" and that would have been the end of it. You're right and it could have been similar to Marco Silva at Watford, but a lot of clubs do tend to just go with a release clause of sorts because it's not legally been tested as far as I'm aware but the general consensus is were a club to take it to court now they'd probably lose. It's very hard to be able to make the argument you can keep someone from taking a better paying job with no get-out. If there's a get-out, then the new club can just pay it on behalf of the manager. Employment law massively trumps the conventions of football, it's why Barcelona and La Liga had to ultimately go with letting Neymar leave and I think they've failed in their attempts to put further restrictions in place to prevent something similar happening in the future. It is just all the more hilarious if Luton had absolute full discretion of whether or not to say yes, took the money then complained that they've taken the money. I'd prefer that is the reality, and then it get brought up somewhere for the Luton board to explain.

That was a proper tailors. Had all my school uniform from there and eventually my Sunday best. Had nearly all my stuff from there, think it was one of the few places that took Shopachecks (don't think credit cards were around then) I got my Mum to buy me a pair of beige trousers with tartan around the bottom of the legs, against her bettter judgement and after many warnings that I had to wear them to school. On the first day at school in them I learned that I had effectively bought a pair of Bay City Rollers trousers No 12 year old boy should have to endure the grief I took that day, probably my worst ever day at school :/ Then obviously I incurred the wrath of my mum cos I refused to ever put them on again.

I bought a patchwork jumper from there and my mother thought it was really nice until coming back from shopping on a Saturday afternoon she saw a couple of hundreds lads with them on 😂😱

Friday night at our house I might as well have stood by the front door, I'd spend most of the night answering it to the various people collecting money.

I remember that well, we coped though mate and I'm sure that like you I learned how to value and manage money. Sadly too many these days want everything instantly and don't always value what they have. Not a moan and don't blame them but money was tight in the fifties and we valued what we had.

Not as long ago as that for me lol, this was the 60/70s! Never thought anything much of it at the time I suppose, we were relatively well off for where we lived believe it or not, both my parents were in work. Still never dared leave food on the plate

Bet you got told that children were starving in Africa so eat up! Sadly there are still starving children and I still don't understand how me eating up helped. 😁 Brought up on a council estate with no money but loving parents, wouldn't change that even if I could.

You know you're completely apathetic towards another football club when a thread dedicated to them veers off into a conversation about Farah slacks, patchwork jumpers, beige trousers, C&A and Windsor Davies
