I know he's taking charge on Saturday, but I think the team selection will largely be the same as last week and probably a similar formation. Once Jones has had a proper weeks worth of training with the team next week, we'll start to see his ideas implemented. Though, regardless if it's the same team or formation, I hope the players feel up for it to give our new man a 3pts start to his, hopefully, long and successful Stoke City career. Agree - I am hoping for a better bench and I think we’ll see some old faces back for Shrewsbury and he might use that game to test out his system properly - fingers crossed It's an ideal opportunity! But you get the feeling he'll go for it Saturday. The team he picks will say all!

I have to say NJ is the first manager I am genuinely really excited about! Here are my personal reasons
1- he is young, ambitious, and really seems like he has something to prove. He is showing traits which Rowett never did 2- his tactics and his flexibility. It’s well know he loves Diamond formation. But from the digging I have done he uses it in different ways. Sometimes he like a 4-4-2 diamond, when he really want to but his foot on the throat and go for teams. Sometimes (mainly away from home) he uses the narrow 4-1-2-1-2. To give more solidity, however still try’s to play on the front foot 3- He has a honest and positive attitude. He is a rare kind of manager, he will admit when he fucks up, and always looks to do better even when things are going well. 4- his work ethic, one thing I read a lot about this lad is the amount of work he puts in. Rowett left the squad to the coach’s from what I gather. Nathan is very hands on, and wants to be involed as much as possible. 5- finally his passion! He seems like a guy who just loves football. And will give his all. One thing I am confident about with this appointment is this. He may not get us promoted or win anything. However I really believe he will but pride and passion back in the team as a minimum. Something as fans we are crying out for!!
I really really want this to work out for Nathan!! Goooooorrrrrrnnnnn Stoke!! 🔴🔴⚪️⚪️

Well I really hope that Nathan is successful enough with Stoke that we are as pissed off as the Luton fans in losing him. Sick of seeing the back of someone due to poor and mind numbing performances

So your not depending on the full backs to provide all the width. When you use the 4-1-2-1-2, your condescending the space in the centre. At exspece of your own width in midfield. One system is slight more defensive than the other. Don’t mean one means Park the bus and the others means attacking 😂 just a slight difference in the formations

Haven’t been reading the thread, but if the YouTube comments are anything to go by I think people need to temper expectations, for the rest of this season at least.
I suspect it will become quickly apparent that the defence will need a complete rebuild before Jones’ style can be implemented to max effectiveness. It would be fantastic if we end up doing a Fulham but I suspect there will be more disappointment to come in 2018/2019.
However, having a manager with a clear vision of a style of football that is a break from what we’ve mostly been used to is already refreshing and I hope we give Jones the time and patience on the back of that, with a view to making real judgments in 2019/2020. I think we’ll give him more leeway than Rowett though, purely because, if Rowett did have some sort of long term vision it was impossible to see and the dire football/results on offer were even more intolerable because of that.
Rowett-ball was like being trapped in a long dark tunnel and having no idea which direction to travel. At the very least I hope that, for the rest of this season under Jones, we spot the light and start moving towards it.

I just felt disappointed because I realised tomorrow was Friday and Saturday and we’re not playing 😱 What on Earth is going on...I’m excited to see the team sheet instead of opening my phone with a sense of dread at 2pm every Saturday I know he's taking charge on Saturday, but I think the team selection will largely be the same as last week and probably a similar formation. I don't believe for 1 minute that rory would approach games in the same way rowett would

I so impressed with this guy and I’m suddenly feeling much more positive. Listening to him talk is infectious and I think he’s already beginning to bond with the fan base.
However, he’s going to need time to implement what he wants to do in the long term. I’ve got one eye on next season in truth. But in saying that if he can galvanise the players, fans then in the short term we may yet make an assault on the play offs this season.
If we don’t make it though but see positive steps and where we want to go then that will be good enough for me this season. I hope we get to the top six of course.
Patience, support, passion and some bloody loud atmospheres is how we as fans can play our part. Let’s hope we can finally be united again. Then we’ll see the real Stoke City come back.

Brentford manager was on Sky last night, and he says he's preparing his team to face a "front-foot 4-4-2 diamond" and fully expects Jones to go with that as there's no reason to wait.

His face when he was asked whether he'd take the lead at Brentford in the press conference was brilliant - like "of course I am why on earth wouldn't I"

Yup. I reckon he's an 'in for a pound, in for a penny' type of gaffer, so won't fanny about with 'existing formations' (& players hopefully).
I just can't see him playing Martina for e.g.
And as his fabled diamond doesn't, in theory at least, require major personnel surgery, why wouldn't?
Plenty of massively viable options on the match thread too.
& as he says himself, as a squad these are wonderful, intelligent, skillful footballers, so why couldn't they adapt, even in the timeframe?
Let's hope they can repay his faith.

I'm a Brighton fan and just wanted to say that you have got a great bloke as new SCFC manager ! He took over from Hyppia when BHA were in pretty dire straits and won his two games in charge before Hughton was appointed. He remained as first team coach until he left to take up at Luton. I don't think you will find anyone here with a bad word to say about him as he is totally enthusiastic and likes to play attacking football. I hear you say that there aren't the players to play attacking but he will turn it around if given a reasonable amount of time. In the meantime, I am certain he will plug the holes. Good Luck SCFC and Nathan !

Given that he won't be getting these two new athletic, pacy, CB's anytime soon (& if we can find / afford them), I doubt he'd want to wait a month or so to get something in place - so won't he just say to AW / BMI / RS (at a push) "this is how I am playing you, get on with it"?
If they can't hack it, we'll all know (if we don't already) and they won't be surprised when two new ones walk into Clayton Wood.
