When did he play against us and get battered by Mama Sidibe? Poor bloke, getting stuck dealing with the Mama role from full back. Has to have been this match with Brighton www.skysports.com/football/stoke-vs-brighton/58427March 2005, Gifton score 2 Pens in that one I think that was the season before Mama arrived? Weird! It's not often that I watch us play and wonder if the opposition's reserve full back on the bench is going to be our manager one day.

Just listened to the full interview - it’s paraphrased in the Sentinel summary - he talks about Gifton as well an someone else

Is it too early to call him 'the Special One' ? I coined ‘up and coming one’ and that’ll do for me

Dare I say it, that’s pretty much a perfect press conference.

Credit to Jonesy. He's played an absolute blinder so far. Pity we've got to actually play some matches on grass soon!

It is quite the scenario really! Speaking of, I wonder if we played against Rowett in his Brum days? Part of me thinks they were in the Prem though when he was with them?

Fuck me some of our squad are in for a serious shock and rude awakening, there’s a steely almost maniacal determination to that man and he’ll not accept slop from anyone.
Exciting and inspirational

Just watched his press conference and I can't help but be impressed. Just in those 20 odd minutes I've found my enthusiasm for football and Stoke City has been brought back from the dead.

Very impressive ! Just hope the team has got the message of what's expected of them !
Got a good feeling listening to that - he's certainly driven and well motivated.
Good luck Nathan.

He's a very focused individual isn't he.
I think he'll get the players on board and the ones who aren't will be told in no uncertain terms that their futures lie elsewhere.
I like the way he keeps mentioning athleticism, he's going to do well I can feel it in my bones but he will need time.

Credit to Jonesy. He's played an absolute blinder so far. Pity we've got to actually play some matches on grass soon! I like that he’s got a set system and idea of how he wants to set up. I know Rowett kept the same formation but I had no idea what he was trying to do, we had no identity.

Luton CEO not best pleased.... Sweet felt it was 'unethical' of Stoke to appoint Jones during the transfer window So their next manager is either currently unemployed or won't be appointed until February. I'll keep an eye on that! So unethical that you turned down a million pound....please pull the other one.

I know Rowett kept the same formation but I had no idea what he was trying to do, we had no identity. He didn't have any idea what he wanted to do either, the bloke was a complete blagger. His media training took him a long way but he's been found out at last. It sounds simple that Jones has his view of how his teams will play and he sticks to that, but Rowett really lost his focus from day one, got caught up in side issues, signed players that didn't fit a system, then played a system which is the worst system for the players we have. I feel like Jones is crystal clear and won't be distracted. Straight away there is a sense of professionalism and respect. I am really impressed. I was a massive critic of rowett but Jones will have my patience, given time he will definitely succeed.

“So I might have come from League One, I might now be a Championship manager, but I believe my work is top-end. If it’s top-end, then players will respond to it. That’s the only way I would like to gain their respect.
The fundamental thing is when we go out on the training ground, they will see work that defies where I’ve come from. People will say: ‘You haven’t managed at the top level.’ But I believe if I was to put my work against top-level coaches, there would be no big gap.

People will say: ‘You haven’t managed at the top level.’ But I believe if I was to put my work against top-level coaches, there would be no big gap. I really like that, he truly believes what he says. That he can make it with us, make the step up from League 1 to not just the Championship, but becoming a top manager on a Premier League level. This kind of self belief is good to see, and with all the right things he's said in his pretty much perfect press conference today, I genuinely think that if he can get the players playing in the system and level he demands, that he'll do it. He's a determined bloke.

Very inspiring interviews. What we need most of all is a plan, an ethos and a club DNA. And you get the impression Jones knows what he wants.
Pulis, whatever his faults, had a structure and stubbornly adhered to a personal plan that allowed us to punch above our weight. But Hughes could only prosper when things were going well, he had no plan when the chips were down. Lambert was well out of his depth and Rowett seemed to think he could get results by sheer bloody mindedness alone.
You need more than that to rise above the average team in this league, you need a system that sets you apart from Average F.C. and Jones sounds like he knows just how to deliver that.
Only time will tell...

Once Jones has had a proper weeks worth of training with the team next week, we'll start to see his ideas implemented. Though, regardless if it's the same team or formation, I hope the players feel up for it to give our new man a 3pts start to his, hopefully, long and successful Stoke City career.

Agree - I am hoping for a better bench and I think we’ll see some old faces back for Shrewsbury and he might use that game to test out his system properly - fingers crossed
