To drop two big (very big) players. He'll get me back on side if he has.

Allen I agree with. The other I'm assuming is Shawcross? I would probably keep him in, thought he was okay yesterday.

I'd drop Shawcross,Bruno and Pieters. Wouldn't play Williams either.
Play some of those other defenders we have.
In all seriousness it's a huge problem.

Allen is a no brainer, he simply has to be dropped. My posting history will testify to my love of Shawcross but I think now it's a question that has to be most firmly on the table. The options aren't particularly appealing but there isn't a shred of evidence things are going to improve in that fiasco of a defence. It's time to get really tough and accept Father Time has taken his toll.

It would prove something to me if he dropped Allen. No point having a squad if you have undroppable players. Especially when it's P7 W1 in a lower league FFS.

The irony being, that the two players who are Rowett's first two names on the (outfield) team sheet are also the first two players who should be bombed out of the side.
We don't really have an obvious replacement for Ryan (maybe Martina, with Bauer coming back in?) but to keep Allen in the team at the expense of a number 10 is absolutely scandalous.
Will Rowett drop him though?

Martina at centre back?
Maybe
That would still leave Pieters and Bruno or Williams.
We don't have a defence capable of going more than a game and a half (at the very most) without conceding a piss poor goal.
Shawcross was OK yesterday so he's due a fuck up v Swansea. Same goes for Eric.
Really pleased with Woods, the shape of the side looks much better, goalscorer looks reliable, pace out wide.
Can drop Allen if you want.options there.
Big fucking hole in defence.
Other than signing better defenders or maybe giving g Souttar and Collins a go can't see any way round this.
Really thought Bauer, Shawcross,Bruno and Eric would be awesome at this level. Couldn't have been more wrong.

Whatever the case, many greater players than Allen have warmed the bench and earned the right to get back in the starting XI.

Rowett may decide to “rest” Ryan with 3 games in 7 days - Williams being the most likely replacement especially as we are playing Swansea If Ryan doesn’t feature, whoever is selected as captain will reveal a lot re Rowetts plans

I agree with the all above. This is a right shambles and the other teams’ managers will have it figured out too. All they have to do is put a couple of quick players up front and hoof it over the top or push it through the gaps.
Rowett knows it better than anyone but he is powerless to do anything about it because he has no options. This is confirmed by the fact that he brought Crouch on for his defensive abilities (such as they are) to counter the giant SW brought on and try to hold on. The midfield issues are fixable, replace Allen with Bojan or Berahino and we will create plenty of chances. Ince and Afebo put can out those chances away and the left side is sorted once McLean returns. Unfortunately by then it may be too late.

He is a good full back, but positionally he is all over the place and I think I have seen him head the ball once(maybe twice) in all his games. Shawcross played better against Wednesday and is better having a player in front of him who actually wants the ball!!(Woods)

We have other options at right back so maybe worth seeing Martina at left back?

We have two huge problems: 1) there’s only the bottom of the barrel left, 2) Stoke will be so far in the toilet that nobody that’s good will be interested (if they were available) and 3) our Board is reluctant to send good money after bad. Edit Martini can’t play LB. Everton tried it and it didn’t work.

I clearly said that there was no obvious replacement for Ryan, the only POSSIBLE one I could suggest was MAYBE Martina, as he has PLAYED THERE BEFORE. And the entire thrust of my post was about how difficult it would be to replace Ryan but how easy it would be to replace Allen.

We pay good wages for this league though so we should be able to attract a good enough defender.
