Just talking on the other thread about a visit in Edinburgh to see the Greyfriars Bobby statue and being underwhelmed.
On a grander scale many years back we were in Canada and arranged to meet up with some friends who were in New England. We met them on the Canadian side and the youngest member of the party said "Where is it" to us as we were looking over at the falls in their full glory, trashy shops behind us
The worst I can remember recently was Sutton Hoo with the kids about 5 years back. Someone spending a few hours on a JCB could have knocked the site up. All the gold and treasures had been looted by London. I caught the kids whispering in front and when I asked them to share the response was "This is just like a crap school trip"

The 'Grand' Canyon.
I agree with Niagra Falls too...I thought the height of the fall would be much greater.

The 'Grand' Canyon. I agree with Niagra Falls too...I thought the height of the fall would be much greater. Really? Is it too wide.
The problem with Niagra is that they've adjusted the flow of water over the falls and as you say the height is a shock.

I'm glad I went to see it but after 5 minutes I was ready to go! I can't describe why but it just didn't impress me all that much.

Sistine Chapel. After spending hours going through the Vatican museums seeing beautiful walls ceilings etc. then getting to the end all expectant it was a massive let down. Dull.

Went down the Suez Canal in a submarine. Because I was part of the firefighting team, I wasn’t allowed to go on the bridge and ‘have a look’. So I’ve been to Egypt but I don’t feel like I’ve ever been there. Surreal.

Hanley Park.
We went up two weeks ago with a bag of bread to feed the smackheads but could only find a few ducks.
Disappointing to say the least.

There are lots and lots of places where things aren't as big as you imagine them to be from pictures and articles.
Fully agree with Niagara Falls - so disappointing after a lifetime of seeing images and putting it on my bucket list.
Some of my other disappointments : Mona Lisa in Paris - much smaller than I expected and it's like a rugby scrum to get a glimpse. Manneken Pis in Brussels - again much smaller. Little Mermaid in Copenhagen - is actually, well, little. Statue of Liberty New York - much smaller than expected. Huge queues too for the ferry and the statue itself. Leaning Tower of Pisa - doesn't lean as much as expected
We should also do a thread with places which exceeded expectations.

Also Electric Brae in Scotland, just what the fuck is it supposed to be...we drove past it 4 or 5 times and didnt even notice.

I felt exactly the same about the status of liberty, wasn't impressed at all, but was more impressed with the Brooklyn bridge and times Square than I thought I would be!

The problem with the Sistine Chapel is that by the time you get there you've seen that much gold. silver, art treasure of every king going that you're punch drunk to what you then see. I was angry that the bastards had collected so much over the centuries and made Catholics poorer along the way.

You're just saying that because you spent a few bob Wasn’t to bad tbh it was a full day trip coach to a small airport outside Vegas then onto a very small fixed wing 20 seater plane, fly for 30 mins over the canyon land at some Indian reservation, have a trip down the river(that was a bit naff tbh) then jump on a helicopter(a first for me never been on one before and was bricking it) had a scary ride up the walls of the Grand Canyon I couldn’t believe how close we got to the side (sadly one of these came down last year)then lunch at the top of the canyon before heading back to the airfield for another 30min flight back to Vegas all this for £200.

That does sound good. My friend did the helicopter ride and he paid over $200 just for that! Sounds like you got a cracking deal.

It was a couple of years ago I will have to check my credit card history but it was with the travel group I was with so obviously we got it cheaper.only downside was we had to leave the hotel at 4am!

It spoils the Sistine by the time you get to it you've already seen too much for one day.

Mannekin Pis , Brussels. Mona Lisa. Agree with Harry" statue of Liberty". ( I've heard that they are going to replace it with one of Trump) Bob Dylan ( I'm a Bob Dylan fan, but he was going through a ' not interested ' phase, he was a sight)

Mount Etna - much smaller than I imagined it would be. Apparently it's now only about a third of the height of when it erupted. Venice - unique but over-rated IMO, overwhelming crowds of people everywhere, very expensive - glad I've been once but wouldn't go back

Agreed, the Statue of Liberty is utter dross. Cool to see from the City but not worth a boat ride over too it. NY is awesome though.
I really like London, or I did the first few times I went. It's just another city now. The London Eye is indeed garbage...although it was pissing it down when I went on!
