Among English clubs, I'd say that Newcastle is the most easily identifiable. What, with their copy of Notts County's shirt? Well they are Magpies

Iโll bet all this is going down very well north of the border mate ?....๐ Everyone in my office prints out the flags of our opponents every game, but as it works in our favor every time, they've decided not to put up Croatia flags. Some of them are becoming extremely worried we might win it! Let's hope they're right
We are the lads in Gareth's army.......

Don't recall seeing that particular gem of wisdom from you. I did actually part of my new wave of optimism which is due to expire first Saturday in August

I must be the only person on the planet who thinks England still haven't played well this tournament. During a world cup you have to step up like Belgium did V Brazil. Hopefully we can do this V Croatia. I still think we are carrying a few players and they should be replaced. Okay he scored but Dele has been awful all world cup and Linguard as well doing nothing. Midfield is where this game will be won and lost. That's how i see Dele though, he's a midfielder who makes late runs and gets goals. He's more of a Lampard than a creator like your David Silvas etc. He's there to finish chances, Sterling and Lingard, along with the wing backs, are the ones there to create for me. Alli would flourish in a midfield 3 similar to what City used last season, he hasn't got the discipline to play in a central 2. That's the only change I would make and bring in RCL or Dier, move Alli behind Kane and drop Lingard or Sterling. I don't like the thought of one natural central midfielder against Modric, Rakitic, Kovacic etc.

Let them worry about us, not the other way round. We already have a dearth of creativity in midfield, so playing deeper players would make that worse for me.

I think our youth and athleticism is our biggest strength in this one.
Outlast them and play our game. Let them worry about us rather than visa versa because towards the end of the Russia game, Croatia looked like an old team.

The more I think about it, the more I agree that it's NOT a game for another natural CM/CDM.
Like others are saying, sitting deeper will invite Modric and Rakitic to get on the ball and pick passes. We need to get them turned/concerned about who's running off them instead.
Haven't seen Kane slipped through one on one many times/at all yet, so I would hope Alli's got a confidence boost since Sweden and starts releasing the ball quicker through Lovren/Vida.

Yes, to be honest I don't fancy us in this game, they have the best midfield in the tournament. We need a game plan here and I think we carry on as we are but up the intensity and turn them around. Run at them, get set plays, we would destroy them on set pieces. If we are caught between two stools and look to play with measured possession we have no chance. Ali and Lingard have to work harder and pressure rakitic and modric, but when we have the ball I think we can look to be direct. Straight over the top for sterling at times. We have to focus over and over again on their obvious weaknesses and cover up our own, something the big teams always do and something southgate has done so far. Put an aggressive press on them, hammer in to them from kick off, direct balls to get our attacking players running them back. Set pieces will give us early chances, and we have to gamble on out-running them throughout the game

Croatia are a bit like an ageing 'golden generation '. Some bloody ace players but hopefully a bit too old to handle our enthusiasm.

Croatia have some good players and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about the prospect of Mandzukic playing solely on Walker for his aerial superiority. I also aren't looking forward to Rebic and Perisic getting down the sides of our back 3 either. Saying that though, their CB partnership will definitely give us chances and I fancy Sterling to give Vida the run around.
Still going for an England win... on penalties.

The way we saw out that Sweden game was impressive, we rarely gave them a sniff. I am fairly confident as long as they dunner get stage fright!
