He wasn't shite at Swansea he was to Swansea what Ryan is to us. I do think he's past it. he was shite at Swansea did you see bojan take the piss out of him before he had to pull him down for a penalty? So one game.

Maybe 4 or 5 years ago maybe he was "immense" (he wasn't and always had mistakes in him but nevermind) but this is NOW. Would you buy a yoghurt 6 months past it's sell by date? This idea that any has been can drop down to the Championship and "still do a job" is bollocks.

It would certainly have more movement in it.

He's a pretty awful defender and has been for a while now.
But will the drop down take some of that away?
I'd rather we didn't have to see tbh.

At the moment us being linked with any defender is good news!

Quite a few Everton fans saying his legs have gone 🤔

A defender who's legs have gone... not exactly what we need is it now?!

I'd much rather an outright purchase of a young 22-25 CB from the division who had a good season last year.

He's never struck me as a clever defender who can use his brain to make up for athletic deficiencies.

He's never struck me as a clever defender who can use his brain to make up for athletic deficiencies. It's not making all that much sense to me, I must admit. From his point of view, why would he come in to challenge Shawcross and BMI? Which one of the 3 would be benched? There are more obvious moves for a veteran looking for games And we'd be paying £2m for the year in wages, you'd think, and end up with nothing to show. He'll be 34 in a fortnight, which isn't in itself a problem if there weren't apparently major signs of his legs going. Laurie Whitwell is pretty reliable though, so I'm guessing it's true. And Rowett likes his experience.

2 years ago he was a decent defender and would have been a good signing.

Surely James Collins would fall into a similar category but a loan when living in London doesn't really cut it I guess. Or have I missed something and he's signed for someone?

2 years ago he was a decent defender and would have been a good signing. True, Gary. He cost £12m 2 summers ago. But once defenders go, they go quickly, don't they? Like a pint of milk left out in the sun Without watching him that regularly, it's hard to say to what degree he's on the turn and how capable he'd be at this level for a season

Sounds like all our barrels have been scraped. Yeah I’d imagine we’ve exhausted other options and GR sees him as the best of a bad bunch. It’s clear we need some cover at CB desperately.

Good, solid defender.
More than capable at this level and good solid choice as backup for the bench.

Both of them are walking niggles. But, even so, there's going to be a hierarchy and you'd think they'd both manage the bulk of the season. As Everton skipper (even one clearly on the way out), would Williams be prepared to come in as 3rd choice for a Champ team? I guess we may find out!

Yeah, if he comes it’ll be an odd one unless he’s been given assurances. It would suggest to me that he knows he can’t cut it at the top level anymore and is just happy to get the odd game here and there.
